Amazing, this is basically Kyrasis's build, so nice to see a high profile creator prioritize mitigation, the "damage is king" mentality really does not feel like the move with how hard these dungeons are.
In case people are wondering - Kyrasis' build swaps Heartbreaker for Rune Tap and Bloodshot for UE which Dorki both mentions. Early on both Rune Tap / UE are not going to be as necessary so starting off with Dorki's build makes sense then swap to defensives as needed.
i swear to god if u suggest this on the sweaty dk discord u get crucified, they all go full crit full dmg and speak about how "unnesassry" this build is
This expansion is the first time I've tanked as DK and my power fantasy with Blood is be as unkillable a motherfucker as you can possibly be, so for me the tradeoff of damage for the ability to tank the last 35% of mythic Ara-Kara's final boss with a dead healer and dps is just sublime.
I love blood dk and I’m currently leveling one, it’s been my favorite tank ever by far. I’m frustrated than San’Layn is that bad compared to deathbringer as its fantasy is exactly what I love about Blood. I don’t really like the scythe thing of Deathbringer, it feels bad to see a frozen scythe hit my enemies as I’m not a frost dk. I hate frost spells/specs in wow, I really think Blizzard could have colored the scythe depending on your spec, a bloody/red scythe would have been cool. I hope they’ll buff San’Layn and make it less rigid so I can play it !
Amazing video! Very clear and easy to follow. Love the way you broke down the opener and defense cds along with a cast by cast video following it. As somebody new to the spec it’s a huge help!
I feel like you still should have talked about San'layn. Even if it's not as good as Deathbringer, you should have still covered it in case people want to play it. Also go into detail of why it's not as good, other than just "It's not good, don't use it."
@@RachelTurner81 But WHY is it unplayable? You're not helpful. What exactly makes it bad? What mechanics don't you like that you think make it inferior? Use your words. Describe things and don't just say "Do it... Because.."
@@Saimeren I encourage you to try it, you'll quickly learn why it's so bad. That having been said, in my experience trying it, because I wanted to know as well, you do less damage, you have worse defense, you have to use Vamp Blood as an offensive CD, and it's difficult to maintain Bone Armor stacks because you are spamming your runes on Vamp Strike during Vamp Blood. It feels very clunky and the return for playing it well is not there.
Pulling with deaths carres > marrowrend > d'n'd > dancing rune weapon > reapers mark sounds super nice and comfy. The problem is, in most random groups, melee dps die if one of my first two globals isn't blood boil :( - Especially If I had to pause because healer was drinking.
Due to the dot it applies, you should also try to aim yourself towards the highest concentration of mobs to apply the dot to as many mobs as possible when you reapers mark. Also since consumption causes a burst of blood plague ticks, it's really nice to hit it when you have triple stacks of blood plague up on mobs due to DRW.
I generally starting with dancing rune weapon. Cuz its range and when im using marrowrend after dancing, starting with 12 bone shield. Then switch to bonestorm. Easy taunt and good survival.
If you use DRW as an opener to help pull you are not only losing a ton of potential dps, but equal if not more lost parry value. Do not use it as a pull.
@@onkekit’s fine to use to open on packs imo. Especially in very very high keys you will can easily die running into the pack even with vamp blood up. You will need those parry’s to live
@@Dilllll26 I know basic reading comprehension is rare these days but I literally commented in reference to him using it to pull the packs from afar, which means he doesn’t even open with dnd. Trash opener.
@@onkek you are also gunna be behind on threat if you DRW after the pack is engaged (especially if playing with skilled players on bursty classes) as DRW global does 0 dmg. DnD -> DRW (with around 10 yards till the mobs) -> blood boil into a tombstone/bone storm is best. You don’t lose any dmg because you use the GCD incurred by DRW to get closer to the mobs and then the blood boil will hit them from 5-7 yards. And like I said you won’t insta-proc purg from synced melees as vamp blood alone isn’t enough in the very highest keys as you don’t have blood shield rolling yet
You literally open up with deaths caress into your normal rotation without wasting DRW needlessly. Why the fuck wou;dn't y ou have boneshield rolling yet? or from your previous pack? Quit moving your goalposts they're already in pig shit.
More detail on Mark and Soul Reaver please. Does it matter how many stacks you get into mark or do you bother to try and hit 40? Also are you only using soul reaver in execute range to generate stacks as well?
It’s actually good to use exterminate quite fast since it might give you more reapers marks and if you spend a few seconds between pulls you might get your reapers mark off cd still with exterminate up.
So I’m coming back to retail hadn’t played in 2 xp. You said keep your bone shield at 6-12 stacks. But in your video you used your tombstone that consumes 5 stacks when you had 5 thus dropping you to 0 stacks. Should you marrowrend 1 time first to get extra stacks of BS before you tombstone so you don’t 0 out on stacks or is it not that big of a deal? Love the video great refresher. Thanks in advance.
you'll generate them as your bonestorm ticks and you'll want to generate when you hit your exterminate so try not to marrowrend unless you really need to
What's the best way of dealing with PuG dpsers who start going ham on AoE right as you pull the first mob? I've not really played much Blood in m+ before, but wanted to keep a tank off spec in my pocket so I've been practicing a bit with it. I'm definitely finding that it seems a decision when pulling to get AoE threat OR boneshield charges, if I prioritise Boneshield the trigger happy dps pull aggro, if I prioritise threat I'm starting to get trucked... I've been going with popping DRW as I pull to get the charges of boneshield, but then I'm not getting as much of the benefit of damage buff from it etc.
Its a bit tough, if I notice it after the first pull. I usually type out a request to let me gather the mobs a bit before blasting. (Helps sometimes) Also using Death's Caress and Marrowrend on different targets like in the video opener helps a ton with generating aggro on different mobs. Good luck out there!
Yeh, its usually the people who ask for big pulls, who start going ham on the first 3 mobs while you're off getting a few more packs who are the problem xD
this should only happen after long role play bullshit / first pack when you're completely out of charges and out of RP. If the first pull in dungeon is a big one 1. drop DnD 2. pop DRW and grabby hands 3. one marrowrend for full bone stacks, then 4. blood boil => 5. bonestorm => 6. tombstone for huge burst of AoE damage, that's it, mobs will stick to you. You can add some defensives in cause you're in trouble, taunting/gripping whatever isn't on you. If someone dies in that first 4/5 GCDs that you're setting up a pull (it's really only 2/3 since you can drop DnD and pop DRW before even reaching a pack) then it's really on them and they should feel bad for being dumb.
Sadly, they need to learn the hard way. Just get enough aggro to keep them off the healer. If they choose to open early (a dumb decision and usually only happens with less experienced players), then they can spend more time looking at the death screen. If they are a good player, then they will learn quickly that they will do more damage if they can be a bit patient. If you want to do well in M+, it's about networking and finding good dps to play with. It may take time to weed out some players that don't fit well into your group, but that's just how it is. It's more important to find players willing to grow with you and are willing to put in the effort to improve as a team as well as individually.
The thing about Blood that I find Giga Awkward is that Tombstone and Bonestorm are two different buttons. Like if Tombstone was an upgrade to Bonestorm that gave it 10 charges and generated RP we'd be cooking with gas.
@@Telados For me it's buttons that don't feel like they either lead into, or follow through from other buttons. Or in this case two buttons that feel like they're doing the same thing, in this case cashing out Bone Armour stacks for damage. But yeah the biggest offender for me is probably Explosive Shot on Marks and BM. Feels like you're stopping your rotation for a second to press it since it doesn't interact with any of your mechanics.
@@Tyberes I really hate cometstorm and coldest snap on frost mage, you press those and the cometstorm doesn't hit because pug tanks just move around for no reason
Great guide. How much throughput do you lose from dropping Soul Reaper and Consumption? It's becoming a real problem now to find enough good keybinds for Blood. I hope they buff San'Layn tbh. Animation on Exterminate is cool and all, but I think BDK is slowly approaching DF Brewmaster territory with button bloat.
Good video, you forgot to mention Consumption causing Blood Plague damage to occur 30 percent quicker for 6 seconds. Pairs well with Reaper's Mark and Umbilicus Eternus.
Almost always death strike is now dealing magic damage too. Combine with the fact that mastery shields were nerfed going in to the expo making bloodshot uptime very bad, its just a weak talent now.
No death strike still counts as phys dmg for bloodshot even with deathbringer making it shadowfrost. If you are struggling to live umbilicus is fine but bloodshot is definitely better ST/prio dmg
Interesting thoughts - I tend to use bonestorm before tombstone, just because it starts giving back bs charges so I don't accidentally end up at zero charges. Good stuff!
A few points that werent covered: if you have exterminate stacks up with reapers mark available you want to spend them prior to use reapers again. I didnt see any mention of blood shield from deatn strike and the interaction DS has with damage taken. IE if you're death striking having taken little to no damage the heal is minimal and essentially wasted which is why you don't want to use it back to back unless you are going to cap on runic power.
