English singer Robin Scott had his greatest commercial success under the name of "M", whose biggest hit was Pop Muzik. This song was a follow-up single from late 1979 and also appeared on the album 'New York • London • Paris • Munich'.
According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_S... "The track was written as a result of his experiences in the U.S. where he came into contact with the music company called the Muzak Organisation.
"He described it as "a very weird experience. There were all these white collar workers conscientiously putting together music with the precision of chemists. Way before Brian Eno was doing it, these guys were doing it for real. They were pre-occupied with the pace of workers in factories, and how to maximise their efficiency."
While nowhere near as big a hit as Pop Muzik, Moonlight & Muzak was a Top 40 hit in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Netherlands.
At the time of writing, the only performance videos on RU-vid were from a Top Of The Pops appearance, but this is its original promotional video.

My favorite song of M (Robin Scott) (C) 1979 album... In Canada it was an early 1980 hit song. Just love it :)

Bought this on 12inch vinyl. Great song, should have been a bigger hit.

I remember this on Countdown late '79 or early '80. I have not seen it since so very thankful it has been put on RU-vid. As I write I think Robin turned 70. Happy Birthday M!

Thank God somebody put a copy of this on Youube. There was a copy of this very briefly and it was gone before I could download it. This one is on my hard drive and in the collection.

I think this is one of the best songs on the album, but they're all surprisingly good. M playing with a Waterful is the best!

Robin Scott - M was a huge influence in the early days of music videos. Pop Muzik was everywhere. And "That's The Way The Money Goes" was actually on heavy rotation as filler material between movies on HBO back in the day.

Great tune from M - you can also find the full video (without the screaming kids at each end) as the final track on the YT uploaded M A Little Night Music (a BBC2 TV special from 1981) 😇

It's interesting how I've misremembered this video. I'm sure as well as actual space footage this features a model of the 'spy satellite' that the video takes place on. The model was the sort of thing I could build out of a couple of painted egg cartons and some flashing lights etc. But I see in the video now there is no model work at all. I must have just made the model up. I see it is also lead singer Robin Scott's birthday today - the big 70! Happy birthday Robin.

Just my opinion. M / Robin Scott / Brigit Novik deserved so much better success than what they got in the US.
