In 1981, I purchased an IJ M1 carbine new (AA prefix S/N) It came with an oil finished walnut stock, WITH the cutout for the select-fire lever.

Really good video. I am just now getting into M1 Carbines and learning from scratch.

This is a great video. Not sure what the data sheet is for but this is the first video of your I watched. My dad acquired an M1 Carbine and some other WWII guns from a marine who worked for him. He had some claim that I can’t remember exactly what they were or why Dad bought there. This must have been 1970ish. When Dad passed away I got the guns and have held on to them and never thought about it. I am 68 now and started looking at the M1 and trying to identify it and the authenticity of it. Thanks for your video. Hope to see more.

I just picked up a Rock-Ola 6076xxx. It came with the data sheet. Looks like everything but the handguard, extractor, and possibly the buttplate and front sight is Rock-Ola. My question is on the stock. I'm not sure if it's walnut or cherry, but it looked pretty reddish when I wiped some lemon oil furniture cleaner on the inside. It appears to be a 1st style stock with the recoil block, an I-cut oiler hole, and has been milled down to a low wood style. (You can't really see it, but you can feel the step where it was cut following the stock line from the rear.) It is stamped RMC in the sling port and on the right side also having cannons. Has a circle P with 26 under it in the curve of the pistol grip. What I have not been able to figure out are the other markings on the left side of the stock. There is a squared-off EB just behind the pistol grip and directly down from where the comb starts. There is also a squared-off what appears to read H.S.A. pretty much in line with the recoil plate. Any info on these markings?

Those are 2 rebuild marks.

Should the Carbine's Recoil Plate screw be screwed down tight with no wobble or movement on the Recoil Plate? Or Should it be loose?

Good question. Just prior when I reassemble I ensure the screw is about half way out of the recess. Once the action is the stock and hand guard in I will first tighten the barrel band then tighten the recoil screw last. If it is stiff when putting the action in it might split or chip the wood around the tang of the recoil plate.

@@norwich93CMP I took the action off, then unscrewed the Recoil Plate screw until the head of the screw stuck out. I then placed the whole action back onto the stock (with the Hand Guard also in place) then tightened the Barrel Band (not super tight, more like finger tight snug just enough no wobble). Lastly, I screwed down the Recoil Plate screw until it was flush with the Plate. Afterwards I wanted to check if there was any play on the Recoil Plate, so I took the whole action out again and there was some play on the Recoil Plate but i didn't tighten it anymore and left it as is. Is that Okay?

What is the nut/washer piece called that is positioned just forward of the pistol grip. I have bought a M1 Carbine and it is missing the washer/nut for the bolt. It also appears that the Bridge in the middle on the stock has been cut on either end as if someone tried to fix it. It currently wobbles and I do not trust it. Any advice?

1. Escutcheon nut is pressed into the stock, the recoil plate screw hold the recoil plate in place. 2. I suggest getting a new stock. If you fire, it it may break from front to back.

I have an M1 with a type 3 stock. I would like to buy a surplus m2 potbelly as I've tried a friend's with one and enjoyed the slightly more substantial grip. However, it's cheapest to pick one up without any hardware. Is it feasible to transfer the metal hardware from a type 3 onto a potbelly without any fitment issues?

Yes it should work without any issues if the potbelly is USGI.

Got an “R” marking on the butt plate. Can’t find anything online about what that means or what manufacture
