I've been playing around with Dex on my Tab S8 this week. It's so damn good, it's like a netbook/chromebook doing basic web browsing. But connecting my Tab S8 to my monitor over Usb C-to-hdmi, and the Samsung Dex UI fills out the entire monitor screen is fantastic. I've connnected an iPad to a monitor before and it sucks that my computer monitor has to mirror the 4:3 screen of the iPad like you mention at 7:35 . I'm not a techie so I don't know the specifics about this feature, but its awesome that Samsung knows how to achieve this. edit: Oh and there's also "second screen" now that works just like iPads Sidecar feature except with Windows PCs/Laptops.

Great comparison video 👍 Have you used the Samsung Tablet mode Edge panels? Have you tried 3 x Tab S8 windows which you can resize how you want and save the combination to the Edge panel? Samsung One UI 4.0 is wonderful ! For info I have in my house Apple desktop, iPads and iPhones, so not even a small axe to grind.

That longevity point about the iPads is the extreme opposite of my experience. Before I bought my first iPad Pro, I was afraid of allowing it to update because I knew it would slow down the performance with each update, but eventually I allowed it to update. By the 2nd year, I was already feeling like it was too slow for me to want to keep using. The fact is, no matter how powerful a device is, software can always make use of that power and ask for a lot more. Then there's of course the throttling that all of these companies do on purpose. So the idea that you're going to be speeding along with an iPad 5 or 10 years later is thoroughly unrealistic. Lastly, the person who would keep an iPad that long, with 10 years while watching 10 years of advancements in computing go by is a very rare person. The majority of people are going to be getting a new device in 2 or 3 years, no matter what. Especially people who buy Apple products.

This is the video on Tablets I've been waiting for. Thank you. I bought the ipad Pro for use with lumafision and some office work. But in the end its just not a great productivity device, especially with the lack of true support for external displays. Happy to see that Samsung has this problem covered. I still really like my ipad for video editing, Web browsing and content consumption but as a laptop replacement for Office tasks ? No way.

Even multitasking outside of Dex is amazing try it on the Samsung in tablet mode it’s customizable and all apps work.

Watching this on my newly acquired Tab S8 -- LOVE it so much right now. Dex has been fantastic and it's VERY snappy. The IPS screen is fantastic too. Best tech purchase I've made in awhile.

For me, the iPad mini is the perfect iPad because I don't need it to be that "all in one" device. Portability, great for reading books, content consumption, and just lightweight use is how I personally like my iPad experience. Well done to Samsung for creating such a versatile tablet, I think a ton of people who prefer Android have a really compelling product, and it's nice to see so much positive coverage of an Android tablet after all these years.

I love your videos man! So I currently have a tab at S6 lite (tab S8 is on the way), Samsung note 20 ultra, Samsung Galaxy watch 4, Samsung Galaxy buds and a windows computer. So that makes me about it's in the Samsung ecosystem as it gets. The Apple ecosystem is still just so much more streamlined. I think the only thing I could do too bring it further together would be to get a Samsung laptop. I also have a iPad Air 4. I used the iPad so much more than my tab s6 lite now because the speed difference is just insane. I'm hoping that the S8 changes that. I really enjoyed your review and it has me excited for the S8. Also adding on to other people mention, even on my tab s6 lite the s pen is included, even when pre-order faces are over the s pen will still be included on the tab S8. Just the keyboard won't. And like you said in your other video, it's a cheap feeling keyboard. Probably worth it to get one with the trackpad if your goal is to use it in dex. Only other thought too, when you were checking out on the Samsung website I feel like the discounts they were talking about was the free keyboard possibly? And any other free stuff you got with credits, like a $50 credit to the Samsung store. I could be wrong, but that's how it was for me and that's what that discounted price was referring to, only for pre-orders or freebies that they threw on.

The problem with the Samsung not getting system updates after 4 years lies with Qualcomm not supporting their older chipsets. I look forward to another comparison once ipados 16 is released.

The problem with the camera position in iPad is that they have pencil 2 charger located in that exact part. They need to much repositioning.

I still have my tab A with s pen (2016) and apps are functional still- media consumption and drawing. Supposedly upgrading to s7 but i'd go for s8 because of your comparison 😄

I still have my 3yr old iPad Pro that I bought in 2019 for my bday and I still can't believe what great battery it holds... I don't see the difference at all and now with ultra power savings mode it's even better... I can't use it all day and the next day even while gaming ... It's Apple's greatest creation because I never owned a tablet this fast and battery that last all day and the next day

being an iPad user for years and switching to S8, what I noticed is glitches, many of them. Face recognition on iPad worked always. In s8, I need to do a presentation and quickly unlock the screen - good luck! It doesn't recognize my face and it doesn't recognize my fingerprint. Audience wait: I need to type my password on the tiny keyboard on the screen. Dex is glitchy - maximizing windows freezes it for 5-10 seconds, same apps I used on iPad do weird things on s8 - one note is an example. I would say: it is a good tablet but glitches ruin s8 reputation quickly.

Apple may provide updates for longer, but normally the last one or last two updates make the device too slow to be used. They should actually stop at the point where the device is still reasonably fast , but then a slow device makes you upgrade

Love my s8+ tab, I bought it for Uni so with the £150 trade in offer plus student discount it was a bargain. Also, I have a Samsung s21 so I wanted to stay on the same eco system. If I had an iPhone I might have gone the other way. Both great tabs. The Samsung tablet is also has expandable storage, so took my 128gb to 1tb+ with SanDisk.

I like to keep my work and personal life separate. At the moment, I've got the iPad Pro 11 2021 (M1) with 512GB (Wi-fi and Cell). What bothers me is that the iPhone (personal) and iPad (only for work) share the same ecosystem and I get distracted. I'll probably get the Samsung S8 11 for work only and sell the iPad. My home computer is a gaming one, running Windows 11 (DeX Mode might be a plus to consider here). What are your thoughts?

Nice review of the Ipad and the Samsung Galaxy S8. I like the fact that the Samsung has a SD card slot. I like 8 inch size tablet like the Samsung A7.

I really like my M1 ipad pro when it comes to performance because I use it for hard gaming and streaming on pubg and it is so smooth. The only thing that I don't like is the multitasking between app it's so limited for a very powerful processor. I hope apple will make a changed on their software 🙏

S8 Tab Ultra is gorgeous… but all my eyes are on Samsung Book 2 Pro 360. I do extensive Pencil/S Pen work and this device looks like the perfect balance between tablet and laptop

It is good to se competition on the tablet space. This has been dominated by Apple for too long, and thus, allowing Apple to put in all sorts of limitations on their OS. Some things may not change, but I do feel that Apple should remove some of the restrictive limitations that spoils the whole “Pro” usage experience.

You can open any app in any aspect ratio you want. You dont need to use DeX mode for that. That's a complete game changer. Android apps don't need to be "optimized" for tablets. You just open the app and stretch it to whatever works for the app. You just can't do that on an ipad I don't think most iOS users even know that you can do this on the Galaxy tabs. The big tech RU-vidrs almost never mention it

The benefits of the iPad come from the fact that it runs a closed source OS with the entire tech stack owned by a single company which controls every aspect of the user experience. If Apple says you cannot do something, then you probably cannot do it. You are not the ADMIN. The benefits of the Galaxy Tab comes from the open nature of Android that let's you do MORE. You have more practicality that includes pc like file management, unfied file system and interaction with legacy devices. This opens up a huge practical benefit for the Galaxy Tab. You may be in an ecosystem, but the Gtab will mot limit you when you are interacting or collaborating with a wide range of users and devices.

Samsung phones have dex built in as well. Have had it for a long time. You just use a USB-C dock.

I’ve owned both for a while. The iPad on paper has more raw power but that’s where it ends. The tab s11 is better in every other way. The screen , the sound is way better on the tab. Media is in a better format and you get the s pen in the box. If I had to choose it would be audios iPad in a heartbeat.

I really wish Apple would create a DeX mode, and fix the camera placement on the M2 iPad Pro. I think Apple really needs to make the iPad Pro actually pro this year. I love iPads, but they really lack pro features.

Try multi tasking without dex, it also awesome, 3 screen split screen, pop up apps, side bar and the sctive widgets

get a chromebook tablet. They can run android apps, so it's practically the same as Dex, but it can also run linux so you can actually do development on them

Simple for me since I live in the Apple garden world it is the Apple iPad Pro. The thing a number of pundits, and some normals hate is that you can not customize the iPad iPadOS/UNIX as much as you can an Android/Linux. I am with you as far as DEX mode. I wish I could just take my iPhone IOS/UNIX supercomputer in my pocket, or iPad Pro iPadOS/UNIX supercomputer in my hands into a dock with full screen display on large external monitor with keyboard, and mouse/trackpad support. With each of these devices it comes down to personal preference. Which one is KISS for you.

I use an Apple MacBook Pro 💻 , Apple Watch and the iPhone 12. They have been great. But with the Tabs, I got the Tab S8 and it’s damn Awesome 🤩. Made this choice after watching several reviews of both Apple and Samsung. I have no regrets, the Samsung S8 has an Awesome screen and gives me the needed flexibility. At this rate I may find me drifting back to Samsung on all fronts 😉🤗.. not the laptops yet maybe.

Ipad pro 1st gen 2015 and ipad air 3 which was also released in 2015 are getting the new ipadOS 16 update these are tablets released in 2015 and meanwhile samsung tab s6 a tablet released in 2019 won't get android 13.

When samsung provides the apps found in the app store I’ll consider the samsung tab, otherwise it’s not worthy, I like how it gives the pen and keyboard tho, and the DEX sounds pretty cool but not sure how helpful it would be

I'm not an apple guy because I feel that every "update " they do intentionally slows it down so whether or not there are 2 years of support or 20, it's going to slow down. They do this with all their products with speed, battery life or both.

I'm a Samsung User for almost 10 years now (still using a Samsung phone), but bought myself an iPad last year. And I'd like to address a few things that weren't mentioned in the video, but make a BIG difference to me: 1. The Form-Factor: 16:9 just isn't great for a Tablet. The roughly 4:3 acpect ratio of the iPad is just perfect for browsing, reading books and comics, it's fantastic. When writing texts you get so much more height in Landscape-Mode. It really makes a difference to me. That's not a small thing. It changes the whole experience. 2. The Software: To my knoweldge there is no equivalent to Goodnotes on Android, and that's one of my most beloved Apps as a student. Overall, looking at Apps from the Playstore, the situation really got worse and worse over the last years. Since Android-Users never want to pay anything for an App, almost any App drowns in Ads. Even after purchasing a "Pro-Variant" Ads remain oftentimes. It is really annoying. And it seriously lowers the whole experience. In fact, this development made me turn away from Android. I like the freedom that you enjoy there, but the stubborness of Android-Users not willing to pay a single Dime for some programmers hard work, almost makes me angry. 3. Memory-Expansion: Sure, the prices for a Memory-Upgrade are outrageous, there is no doubt. Though I can understand meanwhile, why they don't use Micro-SD expansion. Even on my S21 it won't allow me to record 4@60 or 8k Videos on External SD. So for Apple that would mean two Fotos Folders (one on each drive), which need to be synchonized with iCloud. For apps, any programmer would need to make sure, that their app works flawlessly on any slow SD a user could potentially put in there. If you think it through, this would cause the system to slow down or cause crashes along the way. So, I see, why they're trying to avoid these problems. Though I still wish, they'd go down in price for their higher memory options...

I like both and would be happy with either. For work I much prefer the iPad as I am in the Apple ecosystem and that is what makes it worth buying instead of the Tab S8. But if I was not in the Apple world then it may be different.

My opinion: Yes, you should pay for M1 iPad pro. Due to the Samsung S8Gen1's failure, the M1 iPad pro is totally worth. Or you can wait for S8Gen2, which will be produce by TSMC.

I suspect that one of the reasons that Apple has kept the camera on the top is that different users use the iPad in landscape mood with different ‘sides’ up.

I bailed on my iPad for a $130 chromebook simply bc mouse support on an iPad is a joke. I was so excited a few years ago when iPadOS came out and then I was super disappointed by Apple’s idea of what mouse support means.

The Tab S8 plus is the display beast and powerrhouse for work and play. I traded my S7 for it got 550.00 trade in which I only paid 130.00 for it. Samsung has the best trade in values for thier products. I does everything muti-windows 3 apps split screen and plus front back video tracking. I instantly hook up to and TV sceen as my second sceen also get my calls and texts easy. The best video display like my highend Sony Oled TV.

"Apple makes the hardware for the iPad"? You do realize that LG, Sharp, and even Samsung itself makes components for Apple. Including "their" famous displays on the iPad and iPhone.

The chip is the nucleus value of a device. The systems are always updating, a good chip can lead your device to 5+ years survival, suitable, and comfortable to use, but a bad chip will lead to buy new device very soon.

if google somehow successfully integrate virtualization in kernel in all android 13 device..., it will be more usefull for most people the tab s8. thereis already proof of concept running windows in google pixel 6. i really hope apple give m1 ipad parallels.

Everyone has a use-case. My use-case has a 2tb requirement, so that is why I have the maxed out 12.9" version with 2tb of storage.

Got my S8 Ultra for 700 with s7 trade in... Includes keyboard for free.... Excellent deal.

And a lot of Apple fan boys forget one thing about the Samsung galaxy Tab S8. The S8 comes with GPS receiver and accelerometers already built in, download the Maps and you’re off and running. Excellent for off Roading and sailing navigation. The only way to get GPS on The iPad you have to order it with LTE which of course cost more money.

What about s8 ultra

The only thing that I can’t stand with the Samsung Tab S8 Series is the keyboard, otherwise you’re right.

Reviewers do not always pay much attention to the Samsung ecosystem.
