M2 air 16Gb/1Tb user here. Couldn't be happier. Don't listen to these guys, just get what you NEED.

I invested in a MacBook Air M1 when they originally came out. I bought the base model. It's carried me through a couple semesters of classes and been great to get started in my journey in trying to become a front end developer! Love it's portability, but I now use it mostly in clamshell mode like yours with an external monitor for an even more enjoyable experience :)

If your in the market for a new student laptop buy the M2 Air. Make your own choices for longevity. If you need it for the next 3-4 yrs, you buy the newest you can afford.

I think the M1 MBA is the peak of Apple’s design efforts. The wedge, the keyboard, the M1 chip. Fantastic laptop.

Had the M2 Air, just didn't like the boxy feel. Got an open box M1 512 & 16, just a beautiful, compact and light unit, can hold it in one hand. Love that classic shape - It's all that I need.

I got my M1 MacBook Air a few days before Thanksgiving and I love it, no regrets.

Been using it since 2021 and I love it so much..sleek, light, and easy to carry anywhere and everywhere...I love the battery and it carries me throughout the week max or four days straight with full-time usage...I have fewer apps.

The 2 x 128GB vs 1 x 256GB makes a tremendous difference when multitasking, due to memory swap usage. You will not feel a difference only when transferring large files, you'll feel it almost everyday.

The M1A was my first ever Apple device and I couldn't have been more pleased with it. I'm also glad I went for the 16gb of memory and 512 of storage. I can see myself using this laptop for many more years.

The m1 really surprised me when I was able to play my old ps2 games using aether. The ps5 controller works natively on it too. Some crashes here and there but man, this m1 is the best apple product I've ever had. I don't like iphones but this one is my daily driver for watching moves, play old games with dolphin and listening to music.

I have a 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro for work. I bought an M2 Air with 10c GPU, 16GB, 512GB storage from Apples refurbished store for $1,376 for personal use and have absolutely zero regrets. My wife has an M1 Air, so I bought one for myself then after using it for a few weeks I decided to get the newer model. The M1 Air got hotter when playing older games like Civilization V and Portal 2 using Crossover. The M2 has more screen real estate, faster charging, superior camera for Zoom and Teams meetings, and a freed up USB-C port thanks to MagSafe. It's also able to handle graphic intensive processes better and it is still slim enough for me to carry around the house and use in bed. I would do it all over again but understand if people feel the M1 Air has a better value for their use case. The Notch is a non issue if you're an iPhone user though. You've been staring at one for years already so I think it's silly to act like that's a major hangup.

For office worker, M1 macbook air is more than enough. The wedge design also helps typing in long session.

I'm a backend dev and trying to get the most practical device for my work so I decided to get the m1 air but the upgraded 16GB/512GB version and it works really well on my usecase so I agree that it's still the best device specially if you will get a good discount for it which will be more common now considering that Apple is trying to empty their stock of their older devices.

i upgraded to m2 2 days back. Was using m1 from last 2.5years. Other than screen I feel the upgrade just doesn't worth it

The M1 Air will be my first Apple laptop... I tried the older ones on Intel and it was awful... so I never bought one... I'm excited for this laptop and I feel like it will make going to school a much easier experience for me... I need something that's going to perform and do it quickly and efficiently so I can get things done and keep it moving.... Apple did the right thing with booting Intel out and making their own chips... Great video btw!

I just bought a M1 MacBook Air for traveling 16Gb Ram 512Gb SSD it was a bargain at £1048, the M2 was just not worth the additional money. If I need a lot of power I can use my MacBook Pro or iMac Pro.

I just bought a second hand macbook air m1 256 gb with good price, however the total byte written is a little bit high (more than 200TB) and i heard that TBW for 256 gb ssd is only 150 tb, i use smart(self monitoring analyzing report technology) to report that the health of ssd is 85% left. should i trust that and take the risk?

- MagSafe: seems to make sense of it, but the real world (of mine) I have Mini6 and Fuji X100V traveling with me, then why would I care to carry an extra cable other than USB-C for only charging? - Battery life: what an insane! bought a second hand with 100+ cycles of charges, still rocking! no need to worry much about charging also. - Design: I seems to be biased to the boxier M2, (tested in store) but never use in real life, so I cannot compare on this, but the wedge is working well with me. - Screen: a bit of trouble when working on super bright, change the angle!, The only one that I can noticeably differentiate with my eyes is the Liquid Retina of M2 and the minLED of the 14"! Just bought an M1 air now in 4.2023! Got it for $799 brand new from Best buy. The screen is amazing, the portability is amazing! I only got the base model as this is my portable device, and nothing major will be done with it. I have a 16 gb ram mac mini I use with a 4k monitor at home, and had a samsung windows laptop from 2016 (still works fine). Need a laptop for grad school and being able to acutally compute on the go, and wanted to stay in the apple ecosystem to easily change devices I am working on. Have an m1 ipad pro 11 inch, but if I need to do tests for school I can't use it, but now I am Just concerned my 11 inch m1 ipad pro will be not used now. Debating if I should sell even lol. I know I can use side care with this and my ipad, but not much. The camera issue now isn't a big deal as it was when you made this either as continuity camera with my iphone 13 pro is amazing!

In general I get it and you have a point there are a few points though where you oversimplify things.... and the difference IS noticable if you do anything other than simple browsing .....

Can anyone help I’m not the most clued up in regards to laptops, i live in Dubai the difference is only about £250 between the m1 and m2 I use my laptop everyday for work nothing major, normally have about 10 tabs open but I want it to last for years to come any suggestions on what I should go for ? I work with videos, coding and photo editing. M1 MacBook Air is a champ. It Performs better, in some cases, than the M2, which I also own. That's why this video caught my attention. M1 MacBook Air is the best purchase decision one can make.

Still going to be MBA M2. I am using mba mid2012 til today. Obviously I am not a frequent upgrading consumer. Just invest one with all we wanted from looks to performance. Never underestimate that one extra Usb-C. And for the first time MBA have even better screen quality than MBP 13” M2 released at the same period. Or wait until Year 2023… Apple upgrade spec is going noticeable slower and almost No breakthrough. MagSafe was a decade ago… it’s the right time to create a wireless MagSafe charging dock for MacBook.

Sorry, but I disagree. Magsafe, a better screen, a more modern design. And my slightly upgraded M2 takes everything I throw at it and barely breaks a sweat.

After my M1 Macbook Pro took some water damage I opted for an M2 Macbook Air. I just don't like the wedge shape.

I was really thinking about getting the M2 model, but I wanted it to have 16GB of RAM and 512HD, but its price was reaching Macbook Pro area and getting too expensive, and I'm not interested in the Pro version because of my simple use (also, budget). So the M1 is a better option. My only concern is future updates, as it was released in November 2020, so it'll be 3 years this year.

So M1 Air was the best device. I thought so, and am glad that I didn't listen to people who said things like: skip the first generation because 2nd one would be more refined. No, the first one they priced it to get people to switch from Intel. The second time, they figured out a way to force you to upgrade to 512GB and cheap out on the heat sink, LOL.

I am getting M1 Air base at 640$ (brand new) with offers, and 16/512 at $1200 (less offers). I really wanted to get atleast 16gb, but considering the price difference, base model looks like a much better deal. I want it for CSE in college. Would 8gb be enough?

speaking of macbooks, 14-in m1 pro macbook pro is the best atm, decent price and really good battery too. The only thing can compete w/ the m1 pro is "m2 macbook air". It's true that m2 macbook air is more expensive than m1 mb air, but you pay for what you get and worth it. I don't know if this reviewer is working for apple 'cause apple is trying to clear this m1 mb air as much as possible.

I’m still stuck between an Apple refurbished M1 MBA and M2 MBA. I’m still using a 2015 MBP and I think I’ll miss MagSafe.

I just got a used base model M1 MacBook Air with AppleCare+ until June 2024 for about $800 USD, and for that price, nothing comes close

The only thing nice is the price really. M1 MBA screen sucks, charging speed sucks, the lack of ports and Magsafe sucks, the keyboard doesn't feel good to type compared to the M2 on and most importantly, it's just not comfortable to use on your lap. It forces you to work on table if you want some resemblance of ergonomics.

I built a gaming pc, enjoyed it for 1 month then got the air M1 for light use and college, it's been 2 weeks and I haven't touched my pc ever since lol, I guess it's the portability.

Still depends though.. nevertheless, I got the M1MBA...

If I buy another MacBook it would be the M2 and that if my M1 air literally breaks or stops working to a point I can’t fix it.

Help! I have been using a macbook Air M1 for about 10 months. And during this time I have 36 battery recharge cycles, the system shows that the remaining battery capacity is 98%. 1% is gone after 33 battery recharge cycles, after 36 cycles the capacity dropped by another 1 percent. I use my laptop in the usual mode - I watch movies, surf the Internet (I charge the laptop up to 80-85% and put it on charge when the charge drops to 20%). The laptop does not stand on charge during use. Does anyone know why (in less than a year) the battery capacity has dropped? Isn't this marriage?

i just bought a brand new M1 air for $799 at bestbuy. nothing else ever comes close to that value. the M2 Air new is $400 more at $1199. The 13" M2 Pro is currently selling for $1099 but i still don't see much benefit for spending $300 more

Depends on the price I'd say. The m1 has downsides, apart from design preferences, m1 has worse ports and speaker problems. If the diff between the 2 is 100-150 i say go for m2.

Can I buy it in 2023? For sure, it's price will somewhat go down further in 2023 but not as much as the M1 would go.

How many years till Apple discontinues updates for the M1 Air? I mean they're great at gatekeeping, my iPad Air 4 bought just 5 months before the Air 5 was launched, and guess what? My ipadOS16 doesn't support Stage Manager. I get it, the M1 Air used to be great, maybe still is, but it is also old, and falls behind 2022 Intel 12th gen in performance. What if all this adulation for the M1 Air is just a way to help Apple offload its stock of older hardware? Is there a guarantee that people who buy the M1 Air now months before it's discontinued will keep getting whole updates?
