This is very helpful! Thanks to your video, I've decided to go with the PRO chip, but see no need for the MAX chip. When it comes to Unified Memory, is the 16gb sufficient or should I upgrade to 32? I dont use my laptop for sophisticated things, but would like this laptop to last for at least 5 years. Thank you!

@@michaelhappyguy5014 I still use my 13" MBP mid-2009. I have upgraded to 8GB RAM, and upgraded it to SSD. It's not "snappy" but still does the "basic" things. Much like what you need it for. Wish I was in your buyers bracket ("dont use my laptop for sophisticated things"). I would have bought the new M2 Macbook pro with basic options. Saving myself the extra cost, and instead using that money for accessories for the new laptop you'll get.

I ordered a Max 14 inch. It has much more power than I need today, but it has a much better screen and sound and ports than the M1, so I guess that was my motivation….don’t ask me why I bought the Max vs Pro, I am still working on an excuse for that…

The Apple Silicon is really ushering in a new era of creativity. And I think it’s really under appreciated. Some creative work that used to be exclusive to those with desktop workstations are now more accessible. Off the top of my head, more people can get their feet wet into VFX and 3D design with the base MacBook Pro.

Great explanations! So what would you recommend for someone like me who needs to replace a 2012 15” Macbook Pro and essentially uses it for email, documents, excel docs, and lots of family photos and videos? Powerwise I’m sure the Macbook Air would be just fine, but I need a larger screen due to aging eyes. Where I’m stuck is deciding whether to get an external monitor or not. If so, then the 13 or 14 inch laptops would be fine. But I haven’t yet found a great external monitor that doesn’t cost over $1000. I’m considering a 24” monitor. I think it would just be easier to get the 16” MBP and not bother with an external monitor. I’m not working at the desk all day, so I don’t really need a workstation. I’m just not sure it’s cost efficient to buy the 16” if I don’t need the power. I really with Apple offered a 16” Macbook Air! Any recommendations? Thanks!

Hi Chris, Thanks for this very helpful video. May I ask you for an advise? I am a Dutch photographer and very serious into buying the new MacBook Pro since I can use some speed as my 13” 2018 is getting a bit slow to be honest. I fancy the 14” MBP but which version will suit me best? M1pro model 8core cpu/14core gpu, or upgrade to the 10core cpu/16core model? I work mostly with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and DXO software. Would appreciate your advise a lot. Cheers!

Thanks for a clear and simple explainer video, but... even if we doesn't do a lot of very heavy lifting we already found a bottleneck due to the 16 GB RAM limitation in our M1 MacBook Air and iMac, for example during exports of recorded PowerPoint presentations with animations made in Create Studio or Doodly. Another application we frequently use is Camtasia and it's quite memory hungry. Same goes for OBS during Zoom meetings. Bottom line at least for us is going with at least 32 Gb of RAM and maybe even 24 cores M1 MAX with its larger bandwidth. BTW I really enjoy your videos, so keep up the good work!

I should have waited but I didn’t. I want to trade in for the M1 chip, but the trade in amount is ridiculous & I will keep my 2020 model. Your video revealed I don’t need the pro. Given the gaming aspect as another big use of this computer, will it be wise to get the M1Max 32 gpu chip or does cloud gaming not need all of that power?? The “heavy” things I’m gonna do is maybe stream some Xbox games by cloud gaming. My wife is planning the use it (non professional) for editing some foto’s and videos for social media. Do you believe the Liquid Retina XDR display requires more GPU power than the M1 Macbook Pro, which lacks the XDR display? In that case, would it be better to invest in a 32-core GPU rather than a 16-core GPU for future-proofing? Although we could argue that the M1 iPad Pro has an XDR display, but this has a larger display (even by an inch), and there is a greater tendency to multitask GPU-intensive apps on a Mac than on an iPad.

Thanks for the easy explanation! I have watched several videos on youtube and the more I was watching the more I was getting confused. I have been advised by a tech apple guy To buy the mac m max, 24 or 32 Core, 32 gb Ram. I have seen that especially when it comes to fusion in davinci, things are handled much better on the max, whereas on the m1 you'd need to optimaise the timeline and make other adjustments and wouldn't be able to do a playback in 4 k with effects and animations. So, As I do these works, but I consider myself " a regular" video editor, not a Hollywood star... I don't understand why you say that regular consumers can just use the m1. I feel.really confused atm .... this would be my first laptop... I am a creative not a tech person!
