M15’s First Look at Egg with New Mate F23 

Harriet was such a beautiful eagle 🦅 💔 😢

It was sad when it was reported she was MIA. No one truly knows what happened. If I remember she was chasing after a something and never came back

Will it be E23 or will they start at 1 since she is a new mate?

I hope they go with E1. If either parent was Ozzie or Harriet I'd say continue with E23 but this is a whole new family now and this is their first. That's why I think E1 (of M15 & F23) is appropriate! God Bless them and prayers for many more broods to come!❤️

Right now the egg is Egg 1. When it hatches it will be E23. The numbering system continues with the nest.

Wild eagles have a life expectancy of 15-25 years in the wild. Harriet was around 25-30 years old. It's unlikely she's around, and an animal may have scavenged her body.

Or until something happens to a mate - either they lose to a challenger or die. Fidelity to the nest site is important.

They do but death can cause them to lose a mate. Harriet was M15’s mate last year. She left one day and never returned. They don’t abandon their eaglets so….So this year we have a new wife.

@@vickiekasafirek9096 yw! I know it can get confusing. Harriet was loved by all. M15 cared for those baby eagles until they left the nest. He did it all alone. That’s why so many of us love him so. And Harriet was incredibly special too. I don’t ever take for granted one will not be able to return. Last year was a heartbreaker/Harriet and then joy/M15 as the dad. We think one of the offspring returned to check out the nest this year, E22. He stayed there for about two hours. Another tear jerking moment.

Agreed! I love owls but when they start taking over an established eagle's nest, enough is enough!
