I was firstly interested by the MBA M2 but prices in Europe are more expensive and quite close from MBP when you chose ram / storage options so I decided to go for the MPB 14 10C 16GPU that i was lucky to get quickly for a very good deal ! I love music, i must say that on the MBP it sounds amazing !!! For this only i would definitely recommend to chose it over the Air, right after i can say that the ProMotion screen is also perfect to watch 4k HDR content. For those worried about the weight, even with a case on it, it's still feels light to me, just go for it you won't regret !!!

@tobias1206

In Europe, prices are a little different, and the difference between MBA with 512 GB and entry level MBP is only ~100€, so you would definitely think twice about going with the air, given that the pro just has many nice features, like the larger and way better screen and the speakers. Only if portability is the main factor, the air is better.

Exactly, if you need 512 GB of disc space and 16 GB of ram anyway then M2 Air is currently almost the same price as base 14 inch M1 PRO model so in that case I think 14 inch M1 Pro is a winner.
@BaldurNorddahl

I went with the air simply because it will do what it needs to do and after that, my second priority is battery life. A computer without power is not doing any work :-). Honestly after you bump the MBA for 16gb ram and 512gb storage you’re purely buying it for the slim factor because you’re nearly at the price of a MBP. Please note that the screen on the M2 MBA and 14” MBP are fundamentally different. The MBA has an IPS panel and a 60Hz refresh rate, while the 14” MBP uses Mini-Led (Liquid Retina XDR, as marketed by Apple), and the refresh rate is 120 Hz. The increased refresh rate makes a day-and-night difference.

So it would appear that if indeed there is more noise in the M2 Air's webcam, it possible is only a result of it having MORE DETAIL than the webcam on the MBP. All said, I think the MBA's webcam looked better in that segment of your video.

I like small machines. Portable and light. I just needed more beef in processing power though since I deal with high res videos and fast frame rates. The M1 Pro does that. Plus an extra thunderbolt port. So the 14” was the perfect balance for me as of right now for those kind of things for right now. If I need even more power, I’ll probably just head straight to the Mac Studio instead with newer chips. If they slapped on that same chip on the MacBook Air and gave me that extra port, I would probably have ordered one since it’s cheaper. The M2 Pro that will be on the new MacBook Pros will of course be improved, how much though? We shall see when apple launches that whenever they do that. Like I said, I might just head straight to the Mac Studio if I need more performance. The laptops can only be so powerful. It has to be able to run on battery after all and they can only do the best it can to cool the system down. On desktops, there’s plenty of headspace to put a way better cooling system in the machine.

I just bought the M2 Air with 16go and 512go at a discounted price of 1630€ in France. Looking for the best price I could find for the base 14 ´MacBook Pro, it wasn’t under 2000€. So that make almost a 400€ difference in price, enough for not hesitate between the 2. Furthermore, after using it for about 2 weeks now, I am always so surprised how light it is, I have the feeling to hold my iPad Pro instead a computer… Performances wise, I edit videos in DaVinci Resove, 4K 422 10 bit files from Panasonic S5, edit files is a breeze, even with colour correction and some Luts or effects applied. I can play up to 4 4K layers without dropping any frame. The only limitation during my work is when I apply some fusion effects or title, I need to lower the playback resolution, as per the base MacBook Pro 14 I presume. Of course export time are longer, but the most important for me is to be able to work in a creative way, being able to instantly see the result on my timeline. If I need to wait 30 min for my project to render, this is absolutely not a problem, as soon as I know what to expect for the result. Of course for heavy project with a lot of animations, it is not the best choice but it is not intended for that purpose. For my daily work, including writing, web browsing and editing some photos and my RU-vid videos which are about 15 mins long, it is far good enough !

The screen - oh the screen!, the ports (students and adults doing presentation the HDMI is more useful than most take into consideration), the speakers, better graphics and cooling for actually playing the new games Apple is touting. Battery wise for normal tasks is easily a full day then you have fast charging on the 14". I’m going into computer systems technologies and I do light gaming and video editing here and there I’m going with the M2 16 gb ram. I honestly could care less about the SSD speed the difference is a couple seconds I think. I also don’t mind lugging around dongles and external SSDs. The one External display port I don’t mind. I think the M2A is a good launching off point for ppl like myself who wants a machine that can handle a bit of everything at an reasonable (by apple standards) price. Later down the line if I get into video editing or gaming or IT more I’ll upgrade to a pro. But rn I can’t justify the upgrade off of the possibility I’ll need all that power in the future. I saw someone say if you’re watching M2A vs M1P videos you don’t need a pro. Ppl who need a pro usually know it off the bat.

Nice comparison. Im also torn between the two. But if i go with the M2 Air and buy all those bunch of accessories, the work area would be cluttered, "un-Apple" like, and yes additional cost. Ultimately it depends on the use case. If only the new M2 Air is priced similar to its predecessor, it would have been an easier decision

The port selection can be really important for professional workflows (which is why I previously avoided all the thunderbolt only Macbook models). Especially when you're on the go, it's very easy to forget a dongle. I've already used the HDMI and SD card slot a bunch. My only complaint about the 14 inch is that they didn't also include a USB A. I of course had two adapters but I recently took it with me on a trip and lost them both in transit. Just another example of why having the proper port is always preferable to an adapter.
@peterpaul195
@peterpaul195 Год назад
@@BeierFilms probably because Apple wants its macbook to look "clean and sleek". Minimal ports or at least uniform-looking ports, which is unfortunate if you need different type of ports/cables. I also dont like the idea of having less ports. They market it for "pro" but lacks some of the features that real Pros use.

One thing some of these videos made me realize is that rendering speeds are only a small percentage of the time we spend on creating a video project. Majority of the time we use are spent on putting the timeline together. So one thing users should look out for is the editing experience. You can finish a project faster if the software provides you a great and smooth editing experience.

So would you say the MBA M2 is as good as for editing as the MBP M1? I am struggling since I need the macbook simply for editing 4k videos and programming in xcode. I don't know if I will have a huge performance issue with the MBA M2
@andrewlau2939
@andrewlau2939 Год назад
@@captainallergy3654 best refer to 4k video editing videos around youtube with the M2. It should fly through it easily as the M2 was designed to better cater to multimedia tasks compared to M1. You'll see the M2A struggle when you use animation software or continuous rendering tasks. Those require fans to cool off the chip set.

I was torn today. Been wanting a MacBook but the current pro models are due for a refresh with rumors of M2 pro around the corner. But… there are some good discounts on the 14 1TB model (2199) with the 16 1TB on sale also. (2399). I ended up going with the 16 at that price since it is way below MSRP. Performance is still amazing and price is good compared to likely prices of the refreshed models later this year.

What about the keyboard comparisons? They are definitely not identical. I noticed on the MacBook Air that when I pressed the keys down, my fingernails sometimes caught on the unibody case rim, whereas the 14” seems to have a slightly deeper key travel, but I haven’t confirmed that.

I had the M2 Air specced out near the base model 14 Pro, but eventually traded it in for the 14 Pro. I do a lot of creative work, and though the M2 Air can handle it, I found myself physically leaning in towards the screen more so i can see the timeline; as opposed to just comfortably sitting back with the 14 Pro. For me the 14 size makes a great difference. M2 Air is a beast no doubt, but the extra screen real estate was an essential for creative workflow.

When we specced the air to 16Gb ram and 512GB ssd, the price gap between the 14inch pro is pretty slim. On the other hand the 14inch has better speaker, better screen yet, it's more potential performance thanks to better cooling system. Extra ports are bonus, so I'd definitely choose the MBP 14 over the MBA unless there is special discount for the MBA.

Coming from an M1 Mac mini I’ve upgraded to a 14” M1 Pro 16GB 1TB unit to be more mobile. As a pro photographer who shoots events (1000-2000 RAW photos edited down to 300-500 finished) and active manager of business I can’t see myself using the M2 or even M1 MacBook airs to get things done. The M1 Mac Mini did great but the M1 Pro with 1TB and 32GB RAM (I wish I upgraded) is the move for heavy photographers and people who need efficiency in doing all tasks.

Please help me decide which model to buy, MBA 16/512 or MBP 14' Base Model. I use a laptop primarily for the internet, watching movies, MS Office. Sometimes I play in Premiere and Photoshop, but I don't do very demanding things in them, it's just fun. I play Sims and Minecraft. I sometimes get out with my laptop in my backpack or go somewhere with it in my suitcase, but I mainly use it at home, although this may change because I start collage. Monitor, my phone and even TV are 120Hz+, i’m afraid that 60hz in MBA will be too low. Also i’m worried about only one external display on MBA, but i guess i can live with that. I have concerns about battery in MBP, it must be able to keep at least 7h when browsing the internet, watching movies, and working in ms office. I do not know which one to buy, it is a really difficult choice because it will be the equipment that I will use every day for the next 7+ years.
