Interesting topic this week, I was on the hunt to change my old M2 comp and I waited for the new one to come out. I ended up going for a new M4, because basically BMW weren't offering any discounts on the M2 whereas they gave me a £14,000 discount on an M4, also BMW's APR rates were higher on an m2 than an m4 and therefor all together the monthly on a new m4 came in cheaper than a new m2. So it was a no brainer to go m4 in the end.
@@brianiswrong sorry I should title it dealer contribution as they say it, no it was neither of the above, got my allocation, specced my car, like you would normally
No brainier 🤔, aren’t these cars all about the drive, test drove the new M2 manual for a day and it’s a far more engaging drive than the M4, having driven my daughters boyfriends M4 is good but totally different to the M2, -especially in this manual format, obviously financials are a consideration. The M2 for me is the better car tbh 👍
Great deal, probably a better overall car than the M2. You’ve got the more powerful Competition engine, 4-wheel drive, and laser headlights as an option.
@@brentpowell7889Definitely a no brainier for the m4/m3 when they're similar price, it's never all about the drive with these cars, if it was you'd just buy a porsche or emira or something more focused - M cars should do it all, carry 4 adults, big boot, daily duties, motorway trips and sports car/track driving and more. You might gain a bit of nimbleness with the m2 but you lose the practicality, switchable 2/4wd, autonomous driving, full merino coloured leather, lasers, and more plus you get more performance with all year round usability
You guys are going to be absolutely exhausted!! What a packed schedule you have you workaholics/enthusiastic amateurs 😊 Note to both - go and check how mahoosif Australia is!!! 😂
@@th3b0untyhunter so you’re going to ignore the fact they both have commitments aside from this podcast that likely amount to more than a full time job? Be grateful for the content…
You can get X-drive in the M4 comp so that makes it more usable year round (assuming you live with a winter). In my opinion the M4 also looks better, rear end and roofline in particular.
Agreed, i think it looks better and to me a coupe always used to be cooler - you can have all of the power etc, and you don’t need the practicality of rear doors and a hatch back. Occasional seats are fine, you potentially have another car if you have children and a dog because you don’t see the need to throw them around in a 500bhp family car!
New Mini Cooper coming at 35k with 218bhp and 250 range will be more hot hatch than the Abarth. Appreciate that was released probably after you recorded!
Drove the manual M2 G87, this is one I would take, yes the gear box isn’t the best however mine won’t be a daily, the overall experience over the Welsh mountains was far more immersive tbh, the grip levels and drivability was excellent, brake pedal feel was great, having just come out of a 600 LT, this ticks a lot of boxes, as drivers car I luv it. The looks for me are cracking , Frozen Grey, Mocca interior, manual 😊
Currently running and loving my e-Golf, 125 mile range, perfect for The Netherlands and have done roadtrips up to Edinburgh. Got a Volvo EX30 on order.
Vicky won't fit the trolley for the kid in any of the snaller EV hatch. Floor's shallow, doesen't fit. Not even in a regulr 2-door Mini cooper S (petrol) so there's an issue. Anything smaller than a Born / id3 / model 3 or Y is a no-no for parents who have sub-3-year old kid(s).
Excellent podcast as always - surely the answer to the e car is a BMW i3s. I have a 22 plate, great to drive, 160 miles real world range, wireless CarPlay, carbon shell etc
SVR - when you thinking of the RS6 I was posting SVR. Super excited to see your content about it. I’ve had two chances to buy one and bought an X5 first then this time round the new Cayenne. Jag lent me an SVR for a weekend. Loved it.
Alpina make the better M car. If you’re gonna be dynamically compromised by 1800kg+ M cars now, why wouldn’t you just go the alpina with same engine, far superior chassis comfort, and a bespoke higher quality custom interior. M cars aren’t special anymore, you’re simply trading on nostalgia at this point
I don't know why you think the Mini E isn't a hot hatch, most reviews get 0-60 in about 6 & it's hilarious. It doesn't go that far (about 120 giving it some) but I don't need it to plus because it has a small battery it's only about 120kg heavier than the ICE version. It's genuinely quicker than the Cooper S but Mini don't want people to know that for some reason. I love mine it makes me smile. New version with more range is coming soon so deals are out there.
Lol, MINI electrics may be fast around town. But i don't think i have ever seen one in the fast lane of a motorway (wonder why: measely top speed/range anxiety or both). Where as ICE cooper S and jcw's cruise nicely at 85-90mph and top out damn near 150mph. Ergo the electric is not faster.
I was told that the manual is an optional extra now because of its worse mpg / more polluting. Not sure if that’s true or it’s just that they want less manufacturing processes in the factories.
Glad to hear another trustworthy account of the G87 being better off with the ZF8 auto. You wouldn't believe the controversy it caused me to spec mine without the manual. I've got mine ordered in Black Sapphire Metallic and Congac interior with hopes of a set of forged gold wheels for summer tires next year. No carbon package, but otherwise optioned out with adaptive cruise and the works including the carbon roof (we get to pay $2,600 extra in the US for that). Looking forward to the extra comfort on my way to some nice driving roads in neighboring states. If you are ever in the United States going cross country Arkansas has some nice driving roads btw. I wouldn't make a special trip just for it, but it's nice enough to detour through there and maybe even spend a day or two scouting around. Particularly in the fall when the color is coming in. It is scarcely patrolled by the police. Hit the Onyx Coffee Lab Headquarters in Rogers, AR. It's a surprisingly world class coffee shop.
Agreed mostly they said about M cars today, the best one to own should be M3 touring, get a 911 if looking at M4. and stop nitpicking them comparing BMW M's to GT3 and all those supercars please, bimmers got 4 proper seats and big boot
BMW M's: Motorway -> Everything in Confort Spirited driving: -> Steering in confort, Suspension in sport, engine in sport plus. Traction in MDM (personal taste)
Sam I’m aware you’re currently experiencing the new i5. If you’re still looking for a runaround for Vicky and your daughter. Honestly test drive the model y. Not a huge suv but very very practical. It’ll make the ev transition for all you as easy as anything that will ever come from the EV world. Would actually be interesting to see your experience of a model y and see your thoughts. It’s the most popular car right now in the world so that must be for a reason right? Lease deals are very favourable right now on the model y. Also when the new model 3 performance comes out, please test that. Honestly think that could fully convince you to use it as a daily for yourself
Living in Mauritius (3hrs ahead of yous time wise, in summer) when working, i tend to watch yous between 9-10pm your time on the same day or around 6-7pm the next day when off,as i work one 12hr shift then next day off during the week, as work wknds no matter what.
Sam, how about an ID Buzz? Ticks the electric and family boxes for you. Also, Kahn are launching a bodykit and Fuchs style wheel so if you got one in Bay Leaf Green, it would look like a support vehicle to your GT3.
I think you'd be mad to get rid of your 360 to get into a lusso/ff, then go back to a 360. They seem like different cars and I think you will miss the 360 too much whilst you have the lusso.
If you really are touring around Europe wanting long range, the M340d Touring is a great choice. Can't see Sam lasting long in the F-Pace SVR given he really didn't like the fuel economy of the RS6. SVR is going to be averaging the wrong side of 18mpg in town driving. Will struggle to find a better two-car garage than the X3 M40d and the GT3. Also M3 Touring tank is 59 litres, not 55.
Looking forward to seeing the live shows. Always lovely to listen to. Also I would love for the crowd to be better mic’ed up 😁. Listening from a beach in France at the moment if you want to know 😅
We have a fiat 500e as our 2nd car. Taken the back seats out of the Fiat so that all of our baby paraphernalia still fits in, like a mini electric van for zipping around in
I’d like to see more ‘ ICE ‘ traits in EVs Porsche could offer different ice engine maps in the Taycan would love to feel the top end surge of an GT3RS
Maybe I’m wrong but I feel GTC4 Lusso’s are maybe a little overvalued. I see them taking a harsher dump with the rest of the car market in 2024 due to some of the delayed effects of the higher interest rates. If you’ve got a free F Pace SVR to use I’d certainly take advantage of that as I think you are the perfect Jag ambassador. Can’t wait for some content around that car as I would like one.
Research Garage (Alfa/Fiat) in Nuneaton are doing the Abarth for 480-520 p/m PCP, think it was 4k down. Sales staff seemed helpful enough when I went in this week. Not sure if that would be any more tempting...
Would you say the traction control issues on new BMWs are common from the “wider”audience and the new generation of people buying them? Previous only people who had grown up with limited traction control and electronic input were able to buy the cars. Nowadays you can get a 20 year old in an M2, and if they decide to be “stupid” it can very quickly turn sour… Perhaps Im completely off from BMWs thinking there, but just a thought. Side note, I actually agree with Tony here, anything above a M240i is too quick for a manual. Although I prefer manuals and would much rather a manual car.
Why don't you sell the 360 now while values are high, buy something of a classic project car to work on and make videos with over the winter, then hit ground running next summer with a challenge stradale?
You should really consider a model 3 (Performance if you want to add 10% of fun). It's not the smallest car but I think you will like it. If you need more space get a model Y.
Not quite a small electric hatch, but I was really impressed with the MG5 EV estate. Brilliant little car and might even scratch that itch of wanting an M3 Tourer. Preferred it over the MG4 EV. Don't rule it out!
You asked so I’ll go to trouble to explain. My wife has a 500e La Prima conv and loves it. And this was following a 500 Rockstar conv - which she loved for a year, despite me making the TwinAir noises constantly ( and I did , while also taking the mick out of it ) Why? Because she liked it, at just under 20k was disposable. Shocking to some so apologies , but it’s the truth and she was happy. In fact I figured it was pointless spending more on her car at that point. That followed a c43 Coupe which she called a big car, and I couldn’t persuade around a bend. That was an expensive 2 years to find that out. It’s just as well the roof is electric in the 500 because she will put it down for 200 meter drive - which at 6ft 2 I know is just far enough to make my hair stand on end. And anything she can’t one pedal drive is a severe embuggerence it’s seems. She looks at Abarth’s but she won’t swap for less range. No matter how good the Abarth 500e is - less range means Nope. She gets 160+ range in Sherpa and normally 150 miles. The printed roof is a nice touch, and the cream interior with met grey paint is a nice look. She now objects to sitting in noisy cars - like mine apparently. She doesn’t mind it so much when she wants me to drive into London though. Funny that she doesn’t mention the bloody hard suspension with 20inch 35’s. Which drives me over the edge after an hour, no it’s all about the noise. So beware - you’ll enjoy the quiet. Apparently. But hey who knows she probably just likes the quiet so she can listen to LBC phone ins or chat to her friend without interruption. Neither of which I want in a car. In fact I’d pay not to. One things for sure, we also need a petrol car or two in my lucky case. Couldn’t survive with EV’s only unless we changed lifestyle and what we do. But I am tempted by a Microlino for the gym runs. Why ? Because 2 miles each way wouldn’t matter after working from home and they’re dead cool. Can’t wait for them to arrive in the UK. So likely to be one petrol car within a year. Not green particularly - just what we like.
I personally always loved the looks of the Lusso! The V12 is obviously the dream but how about getting the V8 version if you really want to use it as a daily? It should be more dynamic because of the lighter front end too.
Never done much travelling on the M4. The m5 is a cracking road though. I can get my 105bhp Seat altea 1.9tdi on cruise at 70 for miles n miles n miles.
Sam, you need to buy a BMW i3S with a 42 kWh battery. That car is ideal for your wife with the baby. Range is good , the car is made of smart materials and it handles great! I run the bloody thing for 2 years, 2000 km, it’s highly reliable and it never needs anything. My wife loves it, my 2 boys love it. We drove it 280km with a single charge.
Ditch the 360 and get a V12! Are you actually serious about the Project 8? Fuel tanks: plot twist, they’re indirectly trying to bring the refuelling frequency closer to EVs (recharging) to make them look less unattractive Kids: no wonder why all the little s**ts these days are Tesla fanboys/girls 😩
The BMW M2 should be a baby M4. It shouldn’t be at that price point. What is the point if it’s not that much of a jump. It’s too close. The M3 saloon is the ultimate car. Always has been. It can do a weekend road trip with fun roads, handle the school run if you have kids and go on track.
Totally with you on the fuel tank size, I had a 2017 FK8 Civic Type R and the fuel tank was 45(!!!) litres. I couldn't get more than 320 miles on average from a tank, even with just driving like a granny, always felt like I was filling up even if the amount of cash you're spending isn't more
Gotta separate out those two employment categories you merged together there: A) Self Employed : it makes no odds financially because PCP or Lease payments are an income-tax-deductible expense regardless of the cars emissions. B) Director of a Limited Company : you personally have to pay emissions-based company car user tax, so going electric can save huge £amounts. Until electric cars become universally popular, then of course any sensible Govt will remove this benefit!
