It’s not worth people Losing their jobs or opportunities to say they’re being MacBook OS to iPad or even hit at it. They provided the answer and that’s that. Any more pushing and they probably won’t have an interview with Tong ever again.

NO, that is the dumbest question of all time and Apple will never be that stupid to ruin the iPad by enabling macOS on it. ppl have no clue whatsoever just like steve jobs always said. look at windows touchtops, the software has some half assed "touch enabled" features if at all, making it a terrible experience. android has no tablet market at all, and just like phones there is no professional software available at all. iPadOS is the ONLY platform in the world with from the grtound up made professional software made specifically for touch first. iPadOS is FAR superior to macOS, iPadOS is replacing macOS. apple will never bring macOS to iPad. i can repeat it for you: NO

It’s amazing how much ignorance there is surrounding the whining about macOS in the iPad. We want a touch display. That’s the very first consideration, even though some of us do use the Magic Keyboard. macOS is sim0,y not a touch OS. It would be terrible at that. If anyone here who is complaining is actually an Apple customer, because I know that a lot of you are not, then look at a 13” Mac display and look at everything you would use a cursor for and try to imagine using that with a finger. I’ll tell you, it’s terrible. macOS is designed for a mouse/trackpad/trackball, not touch. And the suggestion that Apple could disable touch when a keyboard is connected, yes, that could be done, but it would be very frustrating to use. I’d like more features from macOS added to iPadOS. Possibly working with third parties to create a fairly easy way to enable macOS software to run on iPadOS. It will be interesting in June to see what Apple will do at the WWDC.

If they put Mac OS on the iPad wouldn't that hurt their MacBook sales? Why buy a MacBook when the iPad can do everything the same and way more. But maybe I'm missing something.

How would they make more money? As it stands if you want a touch screen you have to buy an iPad. If you want MacOS too, you have to buy both.

The LCD panel looks noticeably worse than the mini-LED of the M1 ipad. Compared to the OLED, it's not even in the same galaxy. With that said, not everyone needs the best, brightest, most vivid screen. It doesn't do anything special other than look good.

I am with you on that after I went to see the new iPad, I felt that I appreciate what I’ve got even more. I got an Apple Pencil that would not work with the new one; a Logitech keyboard that would not work with the new one and an iPad that is fast, that does what the new one does and that makes me feel that what I’ve got is really nice. Maybe when they come up with the folding iPad, then I will get a new one

Close but unable to be on par with M4. SoC wise, MSFT's chance is at M2 M3 speed. Screen display, OLED with 600 NITS at best

the only reason I didn't bought a surface, it's because of the graphical power... I game a lot on PC. But! a tablet with an ACTUAL os on it it's exactly what I want.

I don’t know what model they are using but I do know they downgraded the cellular. It doesn’t support mmWave now. It’s still 5G though.

@@oxidation8688 I have the cellular model M1 iPad Pro and I get freakishly fast uw5G speeds. I hope a tech reviewer will compare the cellular speeds between the old and new M series iPad to see what the throughputs are. I rely heavily on cellular data and hope we can get some info on this.

@@DarkPa1adin earlier they were minting money on lightning cables; after moving to usb-c, they have to look elsewhere. This is their opportunity.

Unless those peripherals interface in other ways than the standard USB-C/Bluetooth that are already in place, probably not. Then watch the EU tear 'em a new one. For stuff like the iPad that requires a decent amount of custom design, Apple deserves a little bit of leeway.

@@aurelian1 it’ll be 2025, m4’s production lines will be use for iphones that time for AI A18 bionic chips. Big theme on AI for iOS and ipadOS first, one example will be faster built in language translations on website’s images for example (reading manhwa/manga RAWs will be peak) or spoken word translation on the fly.

You’re pretty wrong about much of what you’ve said. Most of the sales of these are to people who understand what they’re used for and who do use it for that. And no, it’s not just a few. I use CAD, editing and other apps and it works very well indeed for those.

There are far more people like me than there are like you, I can’t use it for video editing, or photography as well as lots of basic file management and office tech programs and there are far more people like me than there are, like you and we are not being catered for.

@@Coatsey007 i didn’t miss your point. The Pro series aren’t for you, that’s the way it is. If you don’t need what it offers, then don’t buy it. If it doesn’t meet your needs, don’t buy it. I just don’t understand why some people complain that a product they don’t need doesn’t meet what they do need. Apple doesn’t expect to sell as many of these as they do less expensive models, which meets the needs of far more people. It’s specialized. If an iPad overall isn’t what you need, then don’t buy one. If a notebook, whether Mac or Windows better meets your needs, then buy that. Most people have both, some of also have a desktop. None of them meet all of our needs, so we have each. If you can’t afford, or don’t want to spend that much money, buy the one that comes the closest. It’s always a problem to decide what is the most useful. Would I like to see iPadOS improved? Of course. I’ve seen the iPad, from my first model in 2011, when they first came out, to this new M4 model, advance in hardware and OS. I expect to continue to see progress made. But what people who complain that the iPad is a tablet that acts like a tablet and not a notebook don’t realize is that they are more people who want it to be exactly what it is and don’t want it to become a notebook. Apple has to balance those customers and it’s not easy. So they try to add notebook OS features without angering these who want it to remain simpler. Let’s wait until June 10th and see what Apple has done this year before we continue to complain. That’s not much to ask. And if they’ve done nothing (other than to add AI in everywhere, which seems to be the big fad everywhere right now), then we can complain as much as we want.

yea but this are pro devices and not meant for you consumers, there are plenty of iPad's to choose from for you any chip will do just fine, even an A10

It just confuses me that they recently released the m3 then just skip it to give the iPads the latest chip and not the MacBook pros. I think their lineup just confuses me. I’d honestly like an iPad mini if their screens were a bit better. I just watch everything on my m2 pro MacBook so I’m not interested in an iPad Pro I just don’t understand their products anymore.

Agreed and killed my desire to buy this as I would still need to take MacBook. Just had to do this on a trip and the weight sucks. I need 1 device. They can make this as thin and weightless but when you have to tote a MacBook Pro it’s a heavy combination.

Thats what people want out of the iPad, but based on this interview we are not going to get it, why......money. It would most likely decapitate macbook and MBAir sales. I really think the M4 chip was added to properly run any new AI software coming this year and for future updates.
