I already did it at the front, it's pretty easy to do if you know the difference's, i only skipped the rear bumber because i got an removable towbar at the back ,and there is no removable cover for it at the rear bumper of an m5 because they never came with an removable towbar, only thing you can do is make a big hole in the bumper, that suck's bigtime it look's so bad shittt..

Hey Glenn, I drive a 525i e39. Now I want to buy one of these back and front bumpers but I need to know; are the genuine just as good as the aftermarket when it comes to function?

The BMW made bumpers are very expensive. I found a used one for the rear the front is aftermarket. The aftermarket fit ok but you might have to do a little work to them. The front one I put on my car the air duct for the brakes did not fit good but I was able to make it work. They look the same when all is done.

Lot of work and investigation but as always preparation is everything! I probably would go for replacing the front with standard bumper to save the work plus investment on the rear bumper. I guess I am a bit lazy. Replacing my rear BMW bumper cost approx 100 for a used one plus another 100 for spraying plus clear coat. The small plastic rim which easily slides out I bought new OEM from BMW for like 15 plus the small plastics plugs which you can buy at BMW (and you have to buy a minimum quantity of some 20-25 pieces) or check out the candy store of the guy who sprays the bumper because he has loads of these new clips in all different sizes...... Actually the steel rear bumper was damaged so I replaced it with a new one fitting for a tow bar catching 2 birds with 1 blow.

Thanks Glenn. Has some asshat take the nose off of my pristine E39. Damaged the hood, right front fender and bumper. Where did you get your nice looking cover? I have had a hard time finding one, especially with with the PDC sensors and the headlight washers.

How did you address the difference in the harness for the fog light between the original compared to the M5 fog light?

The bumper came with the new lights and I cut the wires and used wire connectors to hook them up.

Hi Glenn! I installed a bumper like this on my 2001 e39 540i and now the engine overheats. Do you know where the problem might be? I feel like this is air blockage. Thanks!

I don't think it is the bumper this bumper is on a lot of BMW's and all M5's. Check the t-stat and fan clutch, if your engine is running right it is something to do with cooling. We have videos on how to replace the water pump and fan clutch.

common e39 overheating problems is the OEM water pump, i replaced my some time ago, thats pretty much the biggest problem the e39 engiens have :)

My BMW 540I MSPORT has no problems. Just tank best fuel in it shell fuel and vpower racing 100 use some times then 0 problems with 540I i own it 2 years only oil i changed in BMW service. Pulls like new

You don’t poly fiberglass on those types of bumpers. Has to be epoxy or specially made filler for it
