Great engines! I have a e46 330d 204hp myself. Its the best m57 out there, the m57 306d2 engine. They are cheaper then the om606. And bmw box is direct fit. e60 550i clutch wil take 800nm. 306d2 engine has the r90 fuel pump from factory. This pump will push 500hp easy. Best engine to swap in anything. They are found in e46 e60 e53 and e65.
the 550i clutch wil take 800nm? Couldnt find those numbers confirmed really? The e60 m5 clutch wil not even hold close to that with a twin plate setup. So why would the 550i single plate setup hold so much more? Only clutch that claims 800nm is an aftermarket thing as far as i found.
I used to have a Fourtrak and I straight piped that using that solid flexitube stuff, cost me about £30 for 3 meters. I’ve a vid of it on RU-vid from years ago. It sounded the absolute bollocks 👌🏼💨💨 I’ll try and find it. Some guy filmed me and my Disco mates going through a flooded road in my town years ago
Love it, the sound of this in front of a manual box is so much nicer. We've a 200k mile E46 with a working Step 'box still behind it & while it's nice to have the option of "manual" mode it's just never going to be the same as clutch dumping a good manual and getting the load on the turbo low down without the computer shouting "nein, ich werde für dich runterschalten"
Sitting here with a subwoofer and it sounds verrry nice I have one of them, I'm gonna try put it into a P38 and then produce the mounts and sump, well that's the ambition anyway, its a while off yet.
I had a 2004 e46 204 manual 330d, once the flaps, cat and egr junk where sorted along with a de-coke and decent map it was good fun, not in the same league as the monsters built here but the M57 is a great engine once you de-junked it. My heart wants an e90 335d but my wallet and impending energy bills say no. It would be great to see one converted to manual pump with proper squirters and snail..hint, hint 😂
Hello from Russia, I have a Discovery 1996 with a 300TDI engine, I love it)) And if there is a SWAP for another engine, it will be on the M57. Thank you for the video!)
@DieselumpUK Thanks for the awesome videos. :-) I'm considering to buy a crashed X5 on auction to swap the engine and gearbox into my YN65 Hilux. Do you know if I will be able to get a custom transfercase installed with the bmw auto gearbox? my gearbox wont like the torque of these motors
I’ve only just watched this video but me and my best mate ben build this thing originally! The rev bounces alone bring back so many memories. If you ever want to sell it either me or ben would love to own it again
Sounds nice. To do a donut with style. Flick the wheel the opposite direction while popping the clutch so you are holding it right to go left and you steer with the throttle and the occasional clutch pop to keep the ass end out. Practice in a larger area and you will get the hang of it fast.
Put a 3" straight pipe and see how it goes. My old Nissan TD27 runs a 3" straight pipe that dumps under the passenger seat 1.5 meter from the turbo. Sounds sweet.
Now that's an m57 I could love. The rest here in the US are soccer mom and yuppie doctor wagons . Sad how discovery began catering to the yuppies and wimped out a cool history of design .
Hello iv just started watching your videos and love the info you guys put out ..I myself have two p38s range rovers 95s ..4.6..have u guys worked on many and ever done many engine swaps ... ??
There's the bmw engine swap group on Facebook- I had a diesel p38 a while back but gave up with my idea of m57 swapping it as there's only one build thread on one and it was too much for me. Loads have done it on that fb group just not documented it. Alternatively reach out to wiseman engineering. I initially looked at om606, as I've got one, in a p38 and no chance really if you want to set it up with air suspension and the auto. And if you don't have those then what's the point really, not with the manual pump anyway. For the p38, I'd agree with you that m57 is the one to go for, I'd love someone to just sell the wiring loom and anything else to get going with it!
