Startup rattle is the non return valve stuck open and Timing Chain Tensioner, non return valves there behind the vanos solenoids. cheap item.. when they get struck open when you leave car over night the oil drains down instead of staying where it should and it takes a few second to come back to top when starting which makes this rattle sound. replace them it will go. had same issue and resovled mine.
