If you wear this jacket for it’s function then it is right for you, but if only for casual wear, a size down will be a good choice. I’m 5’11 160 , XSL ( xsmall long )military version is perfect for me, but if with liner SL right for me. Normally Alpha commercial version Small is too big for me. But for Japanese brand like Buzz rickson or real McCoy, small fit for me. By the way, it is very easy to find military version of m65 either the color of OG107 or camouflage in US and the price is pretty reasonable , if you truly love M65 I high recommend to find authentic military version.
Yes I got this one second hand it was a crazy good price, maybe $30? I really do like the style and would like to get a vintage or nice repro one at some point
You could buy a USGI surplus jacket in M81 woodland camo or OG107 green for as low as $40 CAD in Toronto, Canada even in 2023. Usual price perhaps $60-$120 at the few remaining army surplus stores and in some vintage clothing stores. I'm 5'9", 168 lbs and wear a medium regular in USGI sizing. I prefer the larger fit for both comfort and ease of layering durung fall and winter. Classic design, versatile and they hold up well.
Hey Mark! I bought mine used from eBay a few years back for about $40. I’m a big fan of buying used and thrifting where possible, though I know it’s not for everyone
I purchased several M65s years ago when the BDUs were changing over. I picked up a few Small/Short jackets that had been issued as field gear to people who never worked in the field, so they were in new condition. They were selling for $15 - $20 on eBay for the genuine article.
A very good video, thank you very much! The material of the jacket (cotton and polyester) isn't the best, the original NyCo (50% nylon and 50% cotton) is much more durable. In my opinion, the Helikon-Tex and Propper models (both NyCo) are also worth a look.
I have an olive drab Rothco jacket that use as a work coat and it has held up well. After several washings in regular cycle, the outer is marvelously soft. I wouldn't wear it for extremely heavy use (I have a USGI coat for that, which is also much heavier). Unless someone is dead set on a genuine US military jacket, these inexpensive copies are hard to beat!
Yeah that's my takeaway too Pete. I'm not a militaria enthusiast so the details matter less to me. Some folks are really into getting either the "real deal" or a really good copy of the vintage styles. Which is great, just not my thing.
I like the no interior pocket feature. Nothing sucks worse than getting your nipples sanded off by one of carhartts zippers or duck pockets on their active jack.
I had the white, black, and gray urban camo jacket in 1993 and got a lot of comments on it. It served me well for many years. Then in the early 2000’s I went to the same Military Surplus store and got the one in midnight blue camo version. After watching your video and seeing that they're now made in China I rushed home to look at the tag on it. Mine is made in the USA! And, they were only about $80 bucks back then. So, theyre charging that now but theyre made in China? That sucks! I’m gonna look into maybe getting the green version now. Do you know what the matching pants are called? Thanx for the video!
thanks for the vid Del, I m still in m65 inspired mode from tfl thread recently and look around for more vids even though I already got a pretty nice replica, perhaps hot washing it and drying it will make it look a lot more lived in, I got a night and day result after hot soaking my brand new replica from spanking brand new into "i got this jacket for 5 years" kind of look
I’d probably go 2 down for that. What you see on me is 1 size down. 1 down gives an oversized look if you’re not wearing layers (which I like but sounds like you’re going for a more fitted look)
The fit is loose and bulky by design the jacket has a boxy cut and extra space in the sleeves the allow for laying underneath it. Nothing beats the original. I won't buy anything but the actual M65.
@@DudsByDel sorry i skipped the intro where you talk about the size, anyway thank you for the reply. I am about 178cm so it would be better to go for small size as well (and camel color), medium its too big i think.
@@DudsByDel Genuine military issue M65 made under contracts. Gibraltar, Cherokee, So Sew, John Ownbey , Golden mfg, Atlanco, Winfield and early Alpha, etc. . ;) There is only one "copy" which is good and made by Helikon Tex . Right materials, zipers, buttons, velcro, colors, and look, without minimalistic chest pockets and barrel looks jacket. ;)
