You're talking about the man that Master Funakoshi named his successor. There IS connection, but not in the way that one joint twitch leads to another like they do in JKA but whole body as one. It may not look like it has much power, but when you get hit, you'll know the difference. It won't leave bruises and purple marks like in external arts like JKA karate, but it will compress your body and rattle/damage your internal organs. The kicks won't knock you out but take your head clean off.

It IS Shotokan: as interpreted by another student of Funakoshi. Some of the JKA instructors and these guys trained at the same time under Funakoshi. It's funny, even after 25+ years of JKA style shotokan karate, this looks really foreign...almost like kung-fu or something...

@Ronin6575 This is a very odd form of Karate. Not a representation of my style of karate (Shotokan) The kata at face value doesn't seem to have any real world applications. But it teaches you how to turn 180 on a dime and still deliver a knock out blow. It also is a matter of perfecting technique of kicks, punches and blocks. Bruce Lee said I don't fear the man who has done ten thousand kicks once. I fear the man who has done one kick ten thousand times.

@nordique59 What is the reality of fighting? Maybe Egami understood the reality of fighting and as a result he found something like this.
