Maamoul are traditional Middle Eastern shortbread cookies that are filled with dates with a golden-brown exterior, crisp and crumbly, made from a rich, buttery shortbread dough. Inside, the filling is soft and chewy, providing a delightful contrast to the crumbly exterior.
Maamoul are best enjoyed with a cup of Arabic coffee or tea, which complements their sweetness and richness.
They can be served at room temperature and stored in an airtight container to keep them fresh for several days.
INGREDIENTS
(Dates Filling)
Dates - 500g (Deseeded)
Melted Butter - 2 Tbsp
Cinnamon Powder - 1/4 Tsp (Optional)
(Shortbread)
Butter - 200g
Sugar - 1/2 Cup | 100g (Powdered)
Vegetable Oil - 1/4 Cup
Egg - 1 Large
Milk Powder - 1/2 Cup
Vanilla Extract - 1/2 Tsp
Flour - 500g
Baking Powder - 1/4 Tsp
BAKE @ 190C FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL THE TOP IS GOLDEN BROWN
