The saw is made by Husqvarna, some smuck on the net said MTD so i took his word. In 1999 McCulloch went bankrupt... Husqvarna bought the rights and make them in Virginia.
I have a similar saw.Mac CS 38 EM,Its impossible to find info on it.Mine runs great but its not oiling.Your video was very helpful. Im having trouble pulling the magneto off.Ive learned a lot, I need new fuel and oil hoses and maybe a new oil pump.Mac saws are MFrs to work on but they run great and start easily.
You can remove the flywheel with a brass hammer. Just break the nut loose and back it off about a turn or two. Then give the crankshaft and nut a good whack with a brass hammer while holding the flywheel up. I've never had this method not work. Also, dont lose the key in the crank when you remove the flywheel. It's not something sold at a hardware store. The key is actually a woodruff key sized .063 x .375. But then it is shaved down to fit the taper on the crank and flywheel. Magneto gap is .010-.015. Cheers
@@ohcrapwhatsnext I realized I was commenting on a 2 year old post, but I figured I throw in my .002 cents in for others looking for help on these old chainsaws. I ended up making a key because (as you know) woodruff keys don't normally get used in a tapered shaft. But the trusty Machinist Handbook led me to the correct size to start with. Cheers
