Yes it’s called EnableGOP but you still need opencore to run modern OS, also for some reason it did not work for me. Was going to do a video on it but it doesn’t work on my 5,1 but it works for most folks.

Ventura on every other unsupported Mac I own works as well as they did with Monterey. But Ventura on my Mac Pro comes with far too many concessions to be used on a daily basis. I'm sure I could upgrade some components here and there, but it seems like its still in the beta phase and I'm just fine running Monty until it isn't. Great vid and instructions as always.

Yes, you need to do the steps in this video to upgrade to Monterey but I would install it on a new drive and leave your Mojave Drive intact so if you have any issues you can always fall back to Mojave I have some other videos on my channel on upgrading and doing the mod to the config.plist.

I'm getting very frustrated. I have a mac pro 5.1 and my firmware is not 144. I have done all of there steps and put monterey on an external bootable drive that I can drop into my tower once its working. so every-time I Boot up the monterey drive and it looks like its going to boot it says I don't have the proper firmware to run this OS. Please for the love of god help me. I can't edit any video or audio because I upgraded my DAW/VAW and it won't work on anything lower than Monterey. I still have a mojave drive as back up but since I upgarded all my software it just won't work. I really need any assistance to get me over this hump.

Wanted to ask you, (first of all, I love the videos) how long have you been using that MacPro. And why haven't you bought a new one? I bought a 4,1 in 2021, used it until late 2021. Got a 14" M1 Pro laptop, it's great. I installed Vista on my Mac Pro a couple days ago, and Monterey and will use it again as I like dual screens. My specs are x5675 (single) 32gb ram and gt710

Thanks, it still does what I need it to do, I’ve had it since 2010 with several hardware upgrades along the way. I will get a Mac Studio one of these days and keep the old Pro around to run Windows mainly for casual gaming and older Mac OS. My friend just got the M2 Max Studio and loves it. The limitations for upgrades kinda takes the fun out of owning one for me but I will go there sooner or later.

@@MacSoundSolutions That's awesome. I was young in 2010, so I couldn't buy a MacPro back then. But man, if I was old enough I would've bought one. What spec Mac studio will you go for? Don’t forget when you first upgrade the computer spotlight will re index your drives and this slows things down, also if you did not put the original config.plist back in place after making changes to do the install the multi threading will be turned off and you will get slower performance. You must put the modded config.plist back to its original settings after the install resetting the VMflag back to A and VMbios to true or just replace it with the original one that came with the opencore package as easy as drag and drop and hit replace.

I tried this a week or so back but I think I used Martins 0.8.0 package. It installed ok but the Bluetooth adapter was turned off, and as I have no wired mouse I found it impossible to turn on. I couldn't find any way of selecting the button with keyboard commands. I've since reverted back to Catalina. Have you ever come across the disabled Bluetooth adapter, and if so, do you know of any workarounds? I'll try it again with 0.9.3 and see if its any better?

I upgraded my Wi-Fi Bluetooth card, before installing Monterey and have a video on it. If you use opencore legacy patcher instead of Martins you most likely will get the old card working in Monterey with post root patches, but you should always have a wired mouse for backup when needed. Monterey drops support for the older Wi-Fi and Bluetooth cards.

I would like to kindly inquire about an issue I'm encountering with my Mac. It had macOS Monterey, accompanied by OpenCore, has been installed on my system, although I wasn't responsible for this installation. Following an automatic update to a new version, unfortunate complications arose, resulting in the system's malfunction. In an attempt to address this, I inadvertently deleted the software in its entirety. As of now, my Mac is essentially devoid of its previous software, but the SSD seems to exhibit an unusual boot sequence, presenting three options during startup. I'm seeking guidance on the best course of action to reinstall macOS on this currently empty Mac. My aim is to restore the system's functionality and return it to its optimal state. I genuinely appreciate any expertise or assistance you could provide in this matter. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
@MacSoundSolutions
@MacSoundSolutions Год назад
Your issue stems from updating Mac OS Monterey without doing the edits to the config.plist My videos show what you need to do before you attempt to update and or install Monterey. If you don’t do the edits you will get stuck in a boot loop. See if you can boot in recovery mode and reinstall Monterey but again you must edit the config.plist first. You may have to install everything from scratch including OpenCore. If so you need a drive with Mojave and a GPU with bootscreen, SIP must be turned off.

hi lance, i'm still running mojave and it's running very smooth. the only reason i would upgrade is for a newer version of pro tools & maybe a few plugin updates. if i upgrade to monterey, do i lose any cpu performance. some of my pro tools projects run at 95-99% (which is fine), but i also need them to open/work in monterey without getting an overload warning. thanks for your videos!
@MacSoundSolutions
@MacSoundSolutions 11 месяцев назад
Hard to say if pro tools will be more CPU intensive for you in Monterey, I have not found that but you will go from 32 bit to 64bit and plugins will need to be updated etc so there are a lot of variables. I have not had issues it's been solid for me but I am not pushing my system that hard most of the time.

@@mikemcpheeters8137 do you have a Mojave drive, you will have to pull the opencore drive and do a re install. I prefer Martin Lo’s package and I am staying in Monterey. Ventura is risky with the 5,1 too many issues and maybes to get it to run. If you do try it again don’t migrate any apps or data it should be a totally clean install. But you will need Mojave to be able to get up and running again most likely. You can also try booting in recovery mode and reinstalling the system not sure if that will work though.

Thanks for making this video! One question: I use OCLP. Is Martin Lo OpenCore better to manage a 2010 Mac Pro?
@MacSoundSolutions
@MacSoundSolutions Год назад
Well it depends, OCLP does all the work for you with the install process, but you always need to check on compatibility issues before making any OS updates, it does do some hacking of the OS especially with Ventura, Martins does not support Ventura. Martins you have to do the edits to the config.posit before installing OS updates but it’s pretty simple as shown in the video. I think with Monterey either is fine, if you have a Nvidia graphics card supported by OCLP then it is your only choice. I have been using Martin‘s package for a long time and it’s been rocksolid for me and it does not patch the OS it is strictly a boot loader that loads before the OS loads where is Opencore legacy patcher does install things into the OS with it post patch installs, but I think with Monterey do you want advantage Opencore legacy has is you can still use your older Bluetooth Wi-Fi card for basic functionality where is with Martin’s? You have to update your card if you want to use a Monterey but then you get functionality like handoff and airdrop.

@MacSoundSolutions ; Hello Lance, I hesitate to ask a question as you probably get a million of them. I cloned a drive that has Catalina on it, hoping to upgrade the new drive to Monterey. I installed Martin Lo's latest opencore package. I set the flags as you describe, I had also done the same when I installed Catalina on my Mac Pro 5,1. For some reason it goes through what looked like the install process, but it wouldn't install. I then tried installing Big Sur, which worked, that installed. Then tried Monterey again, thinking maybe it needed to be installed after Big Sur, it goes through what looks like the the install process, but it doesn't change the OS to Monterey. It completes and the drive boots and it is still Big Sur. Anything that you may think I am missing? Or should I wipe the drive and start over?
@MacSoundSolutions
@MacSoundSolutions Год назад
My guess is it could be the clone because Mac OS is no longer supposed to be cloned and while you can do it, it may be missing things that are needed. Mac OS is it’s own APFS partition on the drive and user data is on its own partition. So you may have to install over the non cloned system or a new drive
