I think today MACBA has a similar existence to Super Bloom. Having people come from all over the world to get skate clout isn't a positive thing for the community, let alone the museum which it is actually a real negative for. It's not like Cariuma is making donations after holding an unofficial contest there or anything.
The proposed redesigns for MACBA you show on the website are for the Convent dels Àngels which is on the other side of the plaza (the second photograph is the roof of the redesigned building) It's looks like this proposal is for the older, medieval building and not the main facade with the iconic ledges.
the visualization of the park is on the rooftop of the new building (check the first picture right next to it). It's going to be build on the 5 stair. The ledge will be still there, on the opposite side at the original entrance of MACBA. 👍
I think it's time to move on from the "Skate and Destroy" culture. Now that I'm older, I'm not mad that spots like MACBA, Carlsbad, and El TOro were shut down. Locally all the skateparks we had were shut down because even if they were designed to be a safe haven for skaters, people still trashed it "for fun." Thousands of tax dollars were spent on them but people left smoked weed residue, graffiti'd it with cock and balls, and left garbage everywhere. It's not cool to destroy stuff that isn't yours for fun, and it's not fun for everyone else to have noisy and rowdy people trashing up a public place, and is the reason why people hate skaters.
Don't see much problems with graffiti with cock and balls in like qps or on the banks. But I agree with anything else. Also hate when people are spitting on the ground in general but spitting on a surface in the park... Hate it! Would be better if it would'be graffiti'd with cocks instead. Would powerslide over it and would ask my homie if he saw how I slide on this cock.
I mean, what do you expect from teenagers in general? They are inherently rebellious and immature as it comes with their age. Majority of people are indifferent towards skaters, as long as they mind their own business. You seem to have a personal gripe with them for whatever reason, but your experience is not everyone else's, so don't generalize.
@@TheHuskyK9 I used to skate often but never destroyed everything because I'm a decent human being. My personal gripe was losing the skatepark amd having to stop because the "cool skaters" effed it up for everyone by breaking things. Kids will be kids but if we dont want the police to crack down on all skaters, skaters have to police their own. Instead we get a celebration of vandalism and decent conduct being made fun of. I would probably still be skating if skate and destroy wasnt still glorified.
I lived in Barcelona for a few years..Macba is a good focal point but it's far from the best spot in the massive city..its also on the edge of Raval so it can be a bit dodgy and off the tourist map.
Skated Macba a few years ago, and to be honest I wouldn’t blame the museum if they banned skating. When I visited the ledges were in a terrible state and would obviously be very expensive to replace. I even made a suggestion that maybe there should be a collection box in the entrance to the museum so that skaters (particularly visiting pros, teams etc) could donate money for the upkeep of the spot and to potentially replace the ledge tops. In typical skater fashion, it got laughed at. And that’s the other main issue. The majority of the skaters seem to show no respect for the fact that it’s a museum and no respect for the people visiting it, then there’s the drinking, weed and general scumbag loitering element, that all makes the place look really grotty (often this is non skaters too) I just don’t see that the city or the museum will put up with it too much longer, if you tried skating anywhere near a major art museum in London, you’d be booted out in seconds. I’m not sure the locals really understand how lucky they are, or show the proper respect for what they have. I think if they want to keep it, they need to show willing to pay for the replacement of the ledge tops, and be more conscientious of visitors to the museum. Obviously a big problem is not necessarily the real locals, but the thousands of visiting skaters who don’t give a shit about etiquette or respect.
7:45 is the roof of the previous picture, it looks towards the area everyone skates. Worst case they might lose a couple stair cases to jump down by the looks of these pics and my knowledge of a place I've never been to.
Just looked at the street view of macba as well as the proposal. That greenary is on the roof of the museum. If you compare the window adn balcony positions at 07:35, you can see that the balcony is closer in the right picture. Looking at the proposals, it does not seem like there is anything planned infront of the museum. So i assume that they won't touch the spots. My guess that someone influencial in the skateboarding world just made a public assumption, but did not check it out themselves...
Macba,one off the greatest spots off all time,was hard to watch in recent times. Every shmuck flying over there to do their little instagram clip. Time to change it up.
Regarding the photos you showed of MACBA from the website, the left one shows the "lower" section with the 5 stair (B.A and Bastien among others did lines ending there), it's really perfect stair set to practice tricks on but if that's all they're redesigning it's not too much of a loss. The right one with the plants and the railing etc is on top of that new building that's going to be built over where the stairs are. My Spanish is bad but good enough to decipher that the two pictures you showed seem to be the only change that's been decided for certain so far.
The hardest part to learn about freestyle and old school tricks is that its hard to find the names of them...and they are all weird...like strawberry milkshake??? come on...Honestly a good video idea would be naming all of the old school tricks you know and just show us on the hand board. It would be interesting to see how many you know as well.
Honestly it’s a bit much to saturate a portion of a town with skateboarders and everyone who comes along with them. A smaller version of MACBA in multiple locations would be better. Some people sleep there overnight.
Skated there last year with my son. First time in Barcelona, first time skating at Macba. Bitter sweet, but glad I got to skate it. As crappy as my skating is, I was glad that I got to skate it. Was litterally my lifelong dream.
I’ve been to macba to visit the museum and they seemed super chill about all the skateboarders frequenting the place, so I don’t think this is a deliberate attempt to make the place unskateable. It’s more likely that the place just needs a genuine overhaul
If they had to rename the mute grab, why not go with the Chris grab since his name is Chris Weddle? Rolls off the tongue way better and might have been easier to accept.

It's in Malmö, Sweden. The city of Philadelphia donated a bunch of leftover materials for Love Park. So they actually re-created a section of Love using the actual blueprints.
We should all be thankful that California didn't have a disproportionately large population of Polish people back in the early days of skateboarding when all the tricks were invented and named after their inventor.
I've seen many people actually skating IN the museum nowadays, they're allowed to now for a period of time, I heard. Skated MACBA a few times and the part they show is the part on the other side of the ledge. Where you have that four stair. So maybe they will just add on to that side?
I'm pretty sure I've heard transition skaters refer to Frontside Suski's simply as Frontside grinds. They just tweak a Front 5-0 because it makes it easily to drop back into the pool/halfpipe whereas keeping a 5-0 grind straight makes it easier to go back into the transition Fakie. Talking about dumb rule about naming tricks, the whole "There's no Frontside Overcrook, just Frontside Nosegrind" is also stupid.
Parallel isn't the bus/train station, you're thinking of Sants. Parallel is just a big empty public space. They're not replacing it with a basketball court, that's just one piece. The rest will remain skateable. As far as MACBA goes, yeh they want to rebuild, but no chance will it remain non-skateable, it's too historic and will end up being like Southbank in London.

I was in Barcelona in November 23' and skated both MACBA and Parallel. MACBA is such a big space that skaters aren't in the way of other people enjoying the museum and cafes, in fact they welcome skaters and it is part of the draw to the other businesses around it. Skaters will still find a way to skate whatever redesign that may or may not occur. However, Parallel is already in the process of being torn down. Currently, there are still a few things to skate there, but I would guess it will be completely gone within a year or two max.
My "problem" with changing "bad" trick names is that when you do it with one you should do it with all the other ones too. And that is a tough task. We can see that the mute grab is still called mute grab so my prediction is that there won't be any name changes anytime soon. One name that bothers me sometimes is "pushing mongo", which used to be quite common back in a day I think but nowadays it is seen as something bad or something that only beginners do. And I have found out just recently that the name comes from Mongolia, which is kinda weird and maybe disrespectful. Anyways, I think that pushing mongo looks cool (because it is rare to see it and thus I find it interesting) and I even today sometimes push mongo when I ride switch.
You got to the wrong channel to speak about pushing mongo. Pushing mongo is cool. Most punk and skateboarding thing ever. Some people also say that, "If you would start to skate in the era of clay wheels you would push mongo too". Keep pushing! Try it in your stance as well. Hard at the start but getting better with practice. Will get some additional control over the board and will get option to use another leg if you tired. Having fun is a big bonus! So yeah, have fun!
@@MongoPlant I pushed mongo when I first started to learn on skateboard so I'm quite good at it even though I don't push that way in my normal stance anymore. But it is definitely fun to push that way when trying to ride switch, so much fun. And as I have said, I like the way it looks, it adds more variety.
i appreciate MACBA has history in skateboard culture, and it's cool that they have a public place that they allow people to skate. but it's kinda hard for me to give a shit about europe or anything that happens there
Disco Flips and Body-Varials were the original names. Sex Change is a Kickflip Body-Varial but the younger generations of skaters started calling all Body-Varials "Sex Changes" (ei; Ollie Sex Change, Kickflip Sex Change, etc.) It's just a cringe trick name all-around and the fact that skaters are using the old names again is refreshing.
