WARNING: I'm an experienced apple consultant with many years of pulling apart macs, but this was my first time pulling apart a 2017 macbook pro so i wanted to get some help before attempting, so i watched this video. I fried my motherboard watching this video due to a lack of a critical warning. be *VERY* careful when you reach 3:25 in the video where he says "pry up the clamp". How-FixIt should have given a warning that this is the most important step of all in terms of preventing your logic board from getting fried. that's your battery connector. when you pull it up, make sure it goes up in ONE move and STAYS up from that point forward. DO NOT let it touch anything - at all - EVER.
@@MementoMori-xx5qo already admitted that i'm not experienced in this particular pull apart. which is why i watched the video. and yes, it's true that in general a few touches SHOULDN'T cause an issue, but it still CAN. i'm not trying to disparage or blame the creator. it's an excellent video and i'm very appreciative of it, it really helped. but i stand by what i said: this is a big miss on his part.
Great tutorial! But I just wanted to aware unexperienced people like me, that it is not as easy as it seems when you watch professional do it. I tried it myself and had few serious problems in process. Luckily my MB survived, but I highly regret doing it. It was a very nerve racking experience. So, think thrice before doing it, please!
While I don't agree with the order in which the screws are being taken off, the video was extremely helpful in saving costs and time. Thank you for the effort in uploading this!
I worked on around 10 Macbook's from changing speakers, to switching screens to ram/ssd installations, fan cleaning, thermal paste etc but never on a 2017... They were all easier than this. After watching I am too lazy to start unscrewing.
Never underestimate the power of the Indian guy on RU-vid Single-handedly repaired the unrepairable and showed everyone else how to do it in the process
I think this video serves its educational purpose. That is I shouldn't think of cleaning the fan and reapply the thermal paste by myself. I will live with the high temperature and noise fans because at least the computer is working.
@@peterv1602any change in cooling ? Better? I want to refresh mine as well, but after seeing the video and reading through comments is too risky. Today i Took it to the apple authorized service and they asked me to sign a disclaimer as if it breaks in the process, I cannot blame them. For them to ask me this, means its a nifty job. Either way great video.
You may at least want to get the dust bunnies out of the fans and vents though, you don’t need much disassembly just the bottom panel and a brush/air can
This does not mention screw sizes or screw types. For example, the bottom 4 screws for the bottom cover are different than the top 2 screws. They are pentalobes. This video is missing so much information that is crucial to getting your macbook up and running again. Such a bummer.
couldn't you clean the fans sufficiently without removing the motherboard and unscrewing the fans? I think you could clean them enough with a brush without risking to fry your motherboard? @howfixit
What amazes me the most about this mac is that apple created a screw in which you can screw another screw, at first i was confused how the last piece will fit back.
Hello. In the process I lost one of the screws that hold the flexible metal bars of the heat sink. Can you tell me what type of screw it is and what its measurement is?
Nice video overall. The only improvement to the video would be to have a more orderly sequence of what screw to remove. Talk about what group of screws / things you will remove first, then the second group of items, and the next set of items. Then, point to the screws or area that you will remove next before remove them. Just a idea and nothing more.
Just basically plan out the groups of screws your are going to remove by saying what you are removing and slowly point out each of the screws you are removing and what but type you will use. Again, this is just a suggestion to help you and nothing more.
And I ask myself why they felt they needed to make such a usually simple task *SO* monumental and such a $!@?& pile of a situation. Wishing there was a cooling mod that could work elegantly. Like an extended backplate just to make space for a bigger cooler? Someone 3D print it start testing damnit! I would but I don’t have the lab... then again - it’s kinda gilding the lily 🤣 but I’d still do it.
Hello! WARNING: in the video do not connect the Touch ID, it is a cable that is under another cable, under the top left plate, be careful before closing the laptop and connect all the cables.
Did the tutorial. Used Kryonaut Thermal paste but for some reason it seems that the temperature is now higher. Get spikes up to 100 degrees. Can the amount af thermal paste have an influence? What is a good temperature range?
I have a flickering at the bottom of the display on my Macbook Pro 2016. but does not look like flexgate. If I force the macbook to use only the ATI graphics instead of the integrated one, the error is gone. Can new thermal paste help here?
I'm amazed at how many people are bitching cause he is not explaining screws. Just remove the damn screws and keep them organised. This video is meant to show how the repair goes so that you get to see it while doing it. It's not a tutorial on how to clean your room or put screws in order. Amazing video thx
Cool video! I've got the same model, and the screen stopped working a week ago, took it to repair shop, they said the graphics card is damaged due to over heating.. They wanted £550 to fix it, which I thought was steep. Any tips on how I locate the graphics card?... And replace it myself?
It’s all built onto the board next to the CPU in this video. It’s not something you can replace at least not without some very specialised equipment and knowledge. Usually an independent repair store would order a new logic board with all those parts which is why it is so expensive (unless they find a second hand one that still works).
I did try id. All looked good but when i turned it on, my mac ran for about 30 Seconds and then shut down. Now it doesn’t start and i dont know what it could be. Any sugestions? Its the first time that i do it with a mac
