If the system detects a broken screen, no. Apple is an asshole and wanted to make sure the computer stopped being usable after the screen broke so you take it to them for repairs.
Thanks 👍👍 worked for my wife's mac book, turning it into desktop PC for much much cheaper price than Apple broken ribbon screen replacement... Hate Apple for not acknowledging screen ribbon issues and not moving it to warranty repairs and for all that software snicky stuff they do, to force you to the official expensive repairs... That's is why I found myself back, using Windows and Linux PC 😊😅😅😅
They definitely know it's an issue, which is why they resort to these tricks to permanently disable the device when it detects an issue, leading the users to think it's something more serious...

My 2017 MacBook Pro screen completely stopped working and I swear I never dropped it or anything. I saw you mention in another comment that they’ll replace it for free but does my case qualify as flex gate?
I have exactly the same problem. Apple said water went on it but i never did and I bought the macbook on the official apple refurb. They don’t want to change the screen for free of course. I just did this trick. It works but it stay stuck on the starting black screen. Impossible to go further
So what you did is disconnected the main screen of macbook and connected an external monitor to it. Is that right? I am having a MacBook A1502 model with black screen. I can hear the sound when it's booting but nothing shows up. When connected to an external monitor it doesn't work as well. Please can you tell me what could have gone wrong. It never fell down or no cracks or anything it's fine, but the display went black all of a sudden.
Basically this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mWbXuF3bftU.html you'll want a thunderbolt or mini display port to hdmi adapter if that doesn't work amzn.to/3rSWdbX
dude, your tutorials are amazing. i got a question - same issue with the screen for an A1706 model, i already replaced display, display gets connected and the green light (camera) lights up, but display stays black (or grey) - it's a new display, and i can also only put the external monitor on when i disconnect the screen like in the video. any idea how i can make the display work, or which cable needs to be changed?
Did you disconnect the battery and hold the power button down at least 15 seconds before touching the screen cable? If you didn't, you likely fried the backlight circuit.
Thanks! It works at the beginning but when a put recovery mode the secondary screen still Black (First I see the apple logo, after that my firmware security code) any ideas? Because I can't do a clean install ;/
Did not work on my end. yes i detached the lcd display upward position not touching below. Only difference is my system is in recovery mode (command + R) on boot up. i dont know if its a factor. All cables working. anyway thanks for the chance.
I accidental tore the very little piece of rubber connecting battery to data (?) mentioned in the video (3:00) Can I ask what are my alternatives now? Is my laptop done? That step is the most tricky part of the whole video. I was able to do all other steps fine.
Hi, I did the operation exactly as in the video. My MacBook Pro starts. Password screen on my external screen. Then the external monitor turns off, the MacBook Pro continues and works but no image on the external screen (No Sync detected)
Yeah... Apple realized people were doing this, so to prevent it, they released an update to make them absolutely useless without the internal screen...fk apple!
The step at 3:00 - "disconnecting battery connector flex cable" should be used with a tweezer, not finger. This part is very delicate and for first time fixer like me, one can easily tore the cable. The rest are easy.
Tweezer is more dangerous because you can't feel how much stress is being put on the part. If you pull it straight back it shouldn't be hard to remove. Likely tore because the latch wasn't released properly and pulled even though it was latched in place.
@@claus1225 If you use your fingernail to flick it up instead of tools, there will be no issue unless you try to pull it sideways. In the thousands of computers I worked on, I've never had one break except when trying to flip it with tools. That's why I never use tools for that anymore, and people get mad saying it's gross that I use my fingernails. Lol... People that don't do the job for a living and think they know better.
@@ItsBinhRepaired I dont have much fingernail to flick it. I am fine with your video. It's free. I just wish I watched more videos on disconnecting battery. There are literally thousands. The monitor disconnection is a piece of cake in comparison. There are even more micro "latches" on m1/2 macbooks so I definitely wont be doing this on my own again.
can you create a video where you just remove the entire top lid of the MacBook. I ave a 2019 MacBook Air with broken lcd and just wanted to get rid of the top lid, thanks
Dude, you are awesome however, I’ve got a couple questions and it’s kind of time sensitive so Apple is going to upgrade my MacBook Pro to this year‘s version. However, I want to recover my data… I have a cracked display. It still has power to it however internally it’s cracked, meanwhile, I used an HDMI and USB-C hub to run it to my television/monitor… when I enter my password I’ve got a test account and I got two accounts that are connected to my Apple ID…so three accounts which I have the passwords for on my MacBook Pro 2020 version 13.3,display running Monterey ( can’t remember which version ) but upon entering my password, it jumps to, (on my monitor a black screen) I can see my cursor. I can move my cursor… but I don’t know if this is in relation to your video or if this is something else? Like it’s not loading the operating system it just sits there black on my monitor is that something totally altogether different? Or is it in relation to your video?
No, I didn’t open it up. Is that something for Security or? I am assuming because I’m new to Apple’s ecosystem and cross-pollination and corruption don’t get me started... so do I need to open it up and do as you are stating because it’s a black screen I can move the cursor around. It’s obviously connected to my monitor through an HDMI, through a USB-C port is that something that I have to do it seems as if the operating system is not loading to me? Do you have an email address? I can send you some pictures or video? Thank you very much for your time.
Questions… Can I email you big guy? I have last year’s model, 13.3, so it “looks like,” the battery clip “appears,” like it’s only held on by adhesive, however I am uncertain, any insights? I can even shoot you my digits in an email or pm…
I followed the steps and got it working fine. It turned off and now I can’t get it to recognize the external again. I tried clicking with the power button bunch of times.
Thanks… I did this with my older A1502 model… now they changed the whole connector path… honestly Apple are crooks for tryna prevent people from repairing their devices… 😂 but there’s always a hack lol… thanks again… worked perfectly for me
Hello; I own a macbook pro 16 inc 2019. macbook screen cracked. I also started using it with an external monitor. One day I needed windows and I installed win 10 with bootcam. but when it started in windows it stopped displaying the external monitor. how i did i deleted mac startup and windows startup. when i run internet recovery it is loading. As the apple logo fills, it outputs the image to the internal monitor. the computer is working. When you press the shutdown button 3 times, it gives a voice command. but it does not display the image to the external screen. I also disconnected the motherboard monitor connection. but still nothing has changed. What can I do. I've been dealing with it for weeks. I tried to download offline. The internet goes straight to the rescue. please help me...
Sadly it doesn't appear to work for me... I disconnected the display, but when I boot up the pc the external display doesn't show anything. with me it's a 2017 macbook pro.
On some models it uses t4, yours was likely different model. This is why it's important to use your brain. If it doesn't fit properly, don't just monkey see monkey do.
