It is nice to see one video out 50 where someone understands that this common issue is hardware related rather than software related. Thanks for making it. For those who are reading this comment, the issue is probably due simply to some dust and dirt between the contacts of the jack port, rather than those of the speakers. In the case of the retina 2012 for example, those contacts are under the little internal cable of the jack. So you need to take out the bottom cover of the macbook, unplug the cable of the jack, clean with alcol 96% its soldered contacts, which are just below, you can only see them after you unplug the cable, and in 5 minutes the issue will likely be solved.
I don’t normally comment on video posts but I have been trying to figure out why my computer all of a sudden had no sound, and why my internal speaker wasn’t showing in my settings this video was heaven sent thank you so much! The only video that had useful information for me and this situation. I just messed with my headphone jack and got it to come back on! I never would have thought of it again thank you 😁
That is the only method that worked for me, and now that apple do not give support for "vintage" products, It's was almost impossible to find someone that could resolve this problem. Thank you very much!
You are my HERO !!!!. This was driving me crazy. Instead of using a jumper wire, I actually just soldered the two pins that were next t each other and Voila !!!
you are a f.... hero! I noticed that the pins that are together, are only for the right speaker. Maybe you have to solder all together to make both work Thank you so much for sharing your experience
Hey man you are an angel. I been searching for possible solution because i have some issue. And then ive watch your video and it worked! I wish i could you beer man! Thanks a lot!
I really wanted to thank you man. i just soldered the pins and it really worked. it is unbelievable that the fix is so simple. you should go the the heaven if there is.
Love finding videos from random people it makes me so happy that there are intelligent people!! I know I sound stupid lmao but 4real; u give me hope for humanity. That said! lol I wonder if u could help me 🙈 my audio/sound stopped working after it fell off the bed 😶 it also sometimes goes through periods of me having to "tap" the bottom of it and hoping if comes on >.> Any ideas? ^_^ atm I'm gonna go try what you did for your issue...except the soldering lol but I will be messing with the sound ... " thing " ... u r awesome !
hi mani.. this is great but I can't get it to work on my.. does the port need to be removed? i've tried it with the connection on.. and removed it and still no dice..
Before trying this extreme approach, try spraying some screen cleaner liquid or foam onto the 3.5mm jack and keep plugging and unplugging into the Mac headphone jack. TURN OFF THE LAPTOP FIRST. This worked for me in 2mins and is far less intrusive.
Thanks !that worked! i ended up putting foil papel making contact to those 2 component and put a bit of hard glue or crazy glue so it would stay in place then on top i added tape to make sure it would stay in place. worked like a charm! thanks

In my A1502 13" MBP no sound problem auto occurring without connecting headphones. i tried all type SW troubleshooting and finally installed Windows 10 on MBP but problem remains same. in windows device manager no sound hardware show. Please help me find out this pin out in MBP A1502(MBP12) early 2015.
@@patertmg no solution for my Mac, but I read in your cmmt that red light blink on your MBP , you can try match stick in headphone jack to remove headphone mode, may be it working for you.
@@kulvinder9899 Thanks, yes I tried that - and pretty much everything else written online... but sadly no change... So this idea of @Mani S intrigued me, but our motherboard (A1502) is different, so I have no idea which parts I would have to connect...
Hi dude, thanks, great video! I have the same issue as this and by shortening those two points with a paper clip also solves the problem. What does this say about the headphone jack input hole itself? Can I do something in there to solve it? I am reluctant to solder myself
@@manimanus67 yeh sorry, I mean that because your method works, then what, if anything, does it suggest that is wrong inside of the hole? Is it the gold connectors?
@@jamesbailey4798 when I made the video, I was discovering the pin which would bring back the sound. After the video, I’ve tested other pins and the result was the same (working). If you want to solder two pins, try to find the nearest ones. I don’t know if that answers your question. If not, try with other words since my english is limited. Peace.
Hello Mani (or anyone else here): Do you know how to make this work on a Macbook Pro 13'' early 2015? Can send you a picture of my headphone jack - sadly integrated on the logic board - with its surrounding . Have the deadly red light sindrome, resulting in absolutely no audio on internal speakers (but also on plugged in headphones) ... no way to turn off "digital out"... 😱Thanks, help appreciated!
P. Thomas Gögele LC Hi Thomas, you could upload some pictures of the main board on to a free hosting site and post the link so me or someone else might help you if we have the knowledge.
@@manimanus67 Sorry didn't catch you answered this a year ago 😳Anyways I continue to have this problem: no sound, only digital audio output, red light in the jack... Here's the logicboard of my early 2015 MBP 13" (A1502): www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Retina+Display+Early+2015+Logic+Board+Replacement/45134 Any clues which pins I would have to solder?
Thank you! I did find a computer with working sound. I was mostly amused by the fact that I needed sound, to fix the sound. Again, thanks for the video.

Michael Maluenga sorry but I never had any troubles with my IMac, so I never got the opportunity to look for it. Maybe someone else will be able to help you.
Thank you for replying so quickly. Simply put the headphones on and do nothing, ALWAYS keep the internal speakers working. I mean, it not only turns off the digital output, but also the headphones. Could it be another pin that disables the digital output? Yes, I have reset SMC and NVRAM. Thank you.
First you should undo the manipulation than try playing with the headphone plug in and out many times to see if the sound comes back. It could be dust or the plug could be damaged. If damaged than just buy something like that www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OJ5AV8I/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1501276748&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=usb+headphone+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=51R6KUNYcTL&ref=plSrch
Thank you, I have removed everything, and the headphones come back to work, but I still have the digital output when I remove them. I will look to clean the connector. Thank you very much for the help. Greetings from Barcelona.
Even simpler solution would be to insert a jack plug into the socket (and cut it flush with the enclosure) and then select 'Use audio port for - Sound Input' in the audio preferences. No skills required.
