I ordered a specced out Air 2 days ago came to A$3599 (before the price drop), I cancelled that order, for an extra A$100 I got the MacBook Pro M4 with 24gb ram and 2tb ssd. Good deal I think.
I've been primarily a Windows user since the 90's. I've used Mac, Linux, etc. at times for Desktop but always stuck with Windows. The last 4 years (since the ARM processors) I've really been impressed with the whole Apple ecosystem. This year I bought a MacBook Pro that will become my primary system. I'm confident that you'll love the Mac mini.
I'm going to order the MacBook M4 Pro since I enjoy video editing. I currently have a Windows PC and what I'm going to miss most about it is that file management system and my TOUCH SCREEN. I know eventually Apple will have them in the future bc why not. I wish they would finally put them on their laptops. Maybe when iPads finally decrease in sales, who knows.
Same boat. Primarily Windows user since I’ve preferred building my own rigs and was considering upgrading my PC this year but all the news of Apple’s m chips have been tempting. The new m4 pro Mac mini seems like a good deal, though considering upgrading to 64GB ram (perhaps 1TB drive but I use external drives for my work so not sure) and this would be either cheaper or same price as the base M2 Max Mac Studio (32GB ram/512GB drive). I want a desktop workstation for digital illustration and animation in both 2D and I’m dabbling with 3D work in blender, but I think the m4 pro would be more than enough vs the old M2 Max
I hate to break it to you but RAM modules and SSDs are pennies on the dollar for companies due to economies of scale. They charged and YOU PAID to fill their bottom dollar quota. The price they estimate is 100% correct.
Dear Tech YouToubers, Please stop complaining about the weight of the MacBook Pro. The weight serves a purpose for the internals. I don’t want Apple to revert back to form over function with its MacBook Pros.
The weight is a valid issue though. Just because the balance was swung too far in favour of form in the past doesn’t mean it’s in the right place today. Sucks that people have to go for a smaller screen just because of weight. I don’t see thermal issues yet, do you?
@@someghostsExcept it was way too far with the 2016 - 2019 MacBook Pros. The things needed to be heavily undervolted to avoid heavy thermal throttling, the port selection was horrible, and the keyboard was bad and unreliable. Just get a MacBook Air if you're that weight conscious.
@ it’s a spectrum though I guess. You could always squeeze out another few points of thermal headroom, more sturdiness and more battery life if you made the thing 5kg and 5cms thick, but then it would be probably even be a bad product / trade off for you at that point
I got a LG Gram 16” ultra 7 loaded. Lighter than an Air and 32gb and 2tb SSD for $1000. I also have a MacBook Air M3 and the Lg is frankly better. So can’t say I’m on one side or the other. I have both and my air is seeing less and less time.
5:23 Isn’t it ironic that after Apple has moved on from chasing thinness over functionality and embraced function over form, you hear from some people complaining about that and desire they(Apple) go back to thinness again? So that they(Tom) can complain about thermal throttling and overheating, etc? What’s wrong with you guys? It’s like you don’t know what you want. Or is just to have something to always complain about? I don’t get it! Anyway, if it’s thinness you want, rumors have it that it’s in the roadmap, OK?
It's all about content. I'm surprised no one has complained they only put in a 12mp camera and not a 13 cause 13 is 1 better than 12 so it's clearly a failure of a device. Personally i'd rather have a heavier machine that stays cool but that's just me i guess lol.
@@cameronbosch1213 and then you look at the iPad Pro and realise its mostly tosh they could make an extremely thin laptop with great battery life and thermals... The just need to run the macOS UI, the actual guts of iOS is identical these days now everything is on ARM.
Now that they have gotten rid of the base 8GB Ram configuration, it’s about time they chuck the 256GB SSD variant as well. 512 should be the only base storage.
@@kekuleh1 even for the Air I don’t think 256GB is enough for a premium laptop in 2024/2025. They’re going to turn into a ewaste problem since the storage will become a limitation before the rest of the components.
@@cowslaw I think we'll see a huge difference lol. Even though my 2019 MP has 64GB of RAM, it runs quite slowly when I'm editing 4K videos or screen sharing on Zoom calls.
It worth waiting. I was going to buy M3 pro version this year, somehow I thought just wait to see how M4 line up is . Definitely gonna buy M4 pro 14 version. Pretty good deal with24gb ram!
Good for you!!! I was also waiting for the upgraded iMacs for the longest time - I have been using an Intel that will only go as far as MacOS Catalina 😕 but sometimes in March the LED gave out😢 I had to buy the M3 iMac as a replacement pronto. Pity it couldn't last long enough for me to get my hands on the M4... I would have opted for the mini with the new Asus ProArt 27" 5K monitor. 😢 Oh well, I'm sure my spec'd up M3 will see several years action , if I don't get "new tech envy" get in the way. 😅
My wife just bought a 14" MacBook Pro M3 Pro config last year soon after those machines came out. She loves it, and it has worked flawlessly, so she won't be upgrading. But was surprised to see Best Buy here in the US offering almost $1,500 for the trade-in. Impressive that MacBook Pros hold their value so well!
Preordered a M4Max. I want something I won't have to upgrade for about 10 years. I'm one of those people still rocking an intel MacBook pro, so this was a worthy upgrade since I've owned this machine for over a decade.
me: Looking at my 2009 Mac Pro ... I have a dual cpu 6 core + HT 3.06Ghz with 32GB of ram, so even with a massive 12 core and 24 thread, the base M4 is 4 time more performant in multi thread .... and 7 time in single thread .... I think it's time for an upgrade lol
I preordered the M4M MacBook 14in, even though it's my first Mac laptop and totally overkill for just writing, surfing the web, and watching movies. But hey, I want it.
I’m waiting for the m5 to come out, but won’t buy it when it comes out, I’ll wait for the m6 to come out and THEN buy the m5 when it’s on sale. Haha. Me smart you no smart. Me Chinese. Only 2 more years left in mean time I still use my Sony lpt16fre15 I buy 9 year ago used on sale. I smart.
This seems like a really nice spec bump for the MBP, and I’m happy to see they FINALLY bumped the base RAM to 16GB on both the MBP and the MacBook Air. That has been years overdue. I think this will be the year we upgrade my wife’s 2019 Intel MBP for photo editing. The faster processor, better battery life, and better screen will definitely be appreciated.
Macbook Pro is as ever the killer device and in Australia $400 cheaper than I paid for my M1 Pro in 2021 - and cheaper than equivalent windows devices - who would have thought.
The fact that you get a solid built & long lasting machine, sleek design, great keyboard, phenomenal speakers, amazing performace per-watt, decent camera, 120Hz, Mini-Led, and all this in combination with a stunning display that now reaches 1000nits in SDR was beyond my imagination and hopes... Someone will say "but it's way overpriced", maybe... but who else can offer this kind of integration, specs and experience except Apple? We all know why everyone wants Apple products so bad, especially the MacBooks, it's because of their ability to make splendid machines in almost all realms. The only downside of MacBooks now being --> oily keycaps that loose coating way to fast and lack of decent games compatibility on MacOS imo... Imagine how great the display is about to be next year with the new 'Tandem-OLED'👀
I have a M1 max 16 inch that will be going on the market as soon as I see test results from reviewer. I want a M4 Max the 4 extra performance cores compared to the M1 Max is perfect for live audio production where you need as many cores as possible to run channels and plugins live. Hopefully Apple UPDATES Mainstage! It hasn't seen an update for a long time now and a ton of bands use it as their live audio mixer with audio interfaces. Fingers crosses M4 is as good as it looks!!! Cheers!
The M4 Pro MacBook Pro 14-inch is the better value. Better Thunderbolt ports, better CPU, and better iGPU with 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. It may seem expensive at $2,200 USD, but it is worth it for professional engineers/developers/creators. Especially if you are currently using the M1 MacBook Pro or earlier non-M chip MacBooks. No need to change if someone has the M2/M3 Pro MacBook Pro and the M2/M3 Max. The lower tier M4 MacBook Pro is better for those transitioning from Windows or dealing with financial issues currently.
Magic mouse is a slick clean design, but it lacks ergonomics and charging while in use. I think you could do a lot better with any other mouse out there Logitech offers some nice options.
High five to John Ternus and the brilliant team pricing these new Macs. They are very well priced for the improvements compared to the M1 or M2 series. Comparing the M2 Ultra Studio to the M4 Max MBP 👏
Stop mentioning about slimming the MacBook Pro down! We spent years with the butterfly abominations saying we didn’t care if they made them thicker and heavier so we could have more ports, better keyboard travel, better battery, and much better thermal performance. We don’t want to go back to theeee ddarkk dday s. Love my 16” M1 Max and still see no reason to upgrade.
I would like a MBP for 3d rendering, Im a dentist, I edit photos from my reflex, 4k video and use blender and other programs. Would the entry model M4 Pro be enough?
I am happy with a cheap Amazon transparent mouse that I use on my M3 Macbook Pro and my Windows PC I can switch between. I do a lot of 3D work and need a physical wheel and the 2 buttons are just nicer than the Apple mouse.
I have a cheap Logitech with Mac Mouse fix program and it's leagues better than Apple mouse. But after coming from windows, I will say that I LOVE the TouchPad on the MacBook, so I hardly reach for my mouse at all these days
Stuck on Macbook Pro or MacMini m4 pro. I don't use my laptop a lot outside of my office... but I might! Intel Laptops are too hot and don't run very long off power.
You want an OLED screen, thats so funny. Apple laptops work for years if apple use OLED thats it, everyone will be replacing the screen every 2 years.:)
It would be nice by default, but it really is just a luxury option. For the vast majority of cases you can just reposition a little bit and save yourself $150USD. Also a brightness of 1000 nits means that even if you are in a place with lots of fluorescent overhead lighting, you'll have no trouble seeing.
No, because there is people like me who like screens as bright as they can be. That glass coating is making them looking older (like on Samsung 24 Ultra), so it's good for everyone to have two options. But that options should be without extra cost.
They nuked my mackbook air 15 with m2 becasue ill forever be stuck with 8 gigs considering i have paid the same price that i could have today for 16 gigs.
thats why you need to valuate better your needs and upgrades possibilities, bought my laptop for 200, 8 gb ram and 512 ssd, but made sure its upgradable before i bought it
No, because OLED is shit for the long-term viability of the device, screen burn-in, and reflective screens. The 120hz mini led on the Mac is world-class.
@@shaun1900 Oled is highest tech on display, nothing beats a good oled panel, every single damn aspect oled is winner, color accuracy, energy eficiency, black levels, contrast, response time... i have a daily driver s7 edge with no marks of burn in, and that phone is 8 years old... the reason they dont put in macbooks is because people still pay thousands for basic tech, just like iphones and its 60hz display... cmom my dad m32 a 3 year old mid range phone has 90....
No M4 for me. My M2 has got a couple years left. Hopefully they update the design at some point in the future. Otherwise it's Lenovo or ASUS. Because in person that Zenbook s16 makes Apple laptops look tedious.
screen protector does not if there is nano texture screen protector ...maybe that's a good idea...If only matte screen protector, it doesnt scatter light as good as nano texture and you lose the color accuracy with matte screen protector and those shows rainbow colors if you look closer
I have no reason to buy Macs as a Linux user and many reasons not to as somebody who values right to repair. That being said, that battery life though on Apple Silicon...
If the 15” had a high refresh display I’d preorder one. My 15” air is great but I’m getting high ram warnings and stuttering and I only have 3 chrome tabs open, my investing tabs and a RU-vid video. I don’t NEED the power of the 16” the power of the 15” is great just need a better display and more ram. Apple failed me and I might just get a ASUS 16” with OLED. Can get one for $1250 and if I include my MacBook Air trade in I can get it for $650.
Quite the contrary: Mac users never shut off at the end of the working session because Macs auto hibernate mega efficiently within 5 minutes and hardly any watts are consumed. I literally never shut off my Mac.
Just like the comments above have said, shutting it down isn’t necessary. Even if it’s needed, your finger can still reach the bottom since it’s raised a bit by the cooling vents at the bottom.
LOL even my PCs run for days until they start to get funky and demand a reboot. On a Mac, reboots are limited to OS updates. And not even that requires the use of a power button.
