Danny Winget This was kind of a pointless video, you got part of the video right, but the part you didn't get right, is choosing the 15inch Macbook pro, you should have compared the base/lowest spec macbook pro to it, the one that's 1,200 , that's 13inches, has the I5 8GB of RAM, no touchbar, 128GB version, not that the 13inch touch bar version is worth $1,999, but you should compare devices by price/specs as close as you can get, so the $1,200 macbook pro vs the surface with the I5 8GB of RAM, The best comparison in the over price category to compare to a fully speced out macbook pro is the fully speced out Razor Blade Pro with the I7 GTX1080, although you could still get a fully spaced dell or HP Omen for like 2,500, or even a really nice computer for $850-1,600. This was close to a perfect video, but 13inches vs 15inches, and price difference is not a perfect comparison, Although resolution wise the surface has a better display, and its priced much more practically.

I got the Gen 1 Surface Book as well but only recently, i7, 16, 512, dGPU... And the first day it was buggy and glitchy as hell... but as soon as Windows Updated, it has become the best device I've used so far... Such a delight...

Its such a crappy tablet though gahh. Im not as brave as you I returned mine. If they make the tablet less top heavy fix the battery life on surface book 2 I may go back.

I loe my surface book and use it in tablet mode about half the time. Its not exactly a traditional tablet, but I love it for taking notes and doing homework for math/science classes or just handwritten notes in general (they help you retain information). I also use it in tablet mode but with it standing up on the keyboard for movies and videos and its great.

dude, the surface is made of magnesium alloy and is extremely durable. I'll enjoy it for the next 4 years to finish my bachelor meanwhile u can go ahead and buy a new macbook every year just like u do with ur trash iphones isheep. Thanks dude for having a clear vision. I feel you. Apple makes great great products but the others caught up. The surface products are great. If the new MacBooks were like 300-500$ cheaper I'd happily buy one, but the prices Apple is charging at the moment (especially upgrades) are just insane....

Before Macs were known for be "superior" in the user experience, i think that those things were indeed caught up a bit by MS (and others). Apple really need to get their focus back. I really still like Apple, but there is something that got to change. But it's a long time coming, i hope we can see some of the great Desktops next year, which Cook is talking about... i'm curious.

Alexander Soriano yeah I’m an Apple customer for most of their products, but recently bought the surface pro for my specific software needs that Mac couldn’t fill and I really like it.

you wont regret it if you haven't bought one yet. I got the 128 g i5 and I absolutely love it.

It's holding up great! I got a 128 GB micro SD card and an adapter made specifically for the SB off of ebay so i can keep it in there at all times. It definitely beats having to spend an extra $500 for the 256 GB SB plus It works great and looks slick. I also picked up mine for just under $1200 when they went on sale at Best Buy. Also, i waited until tax free weekend here in my state and it shaved even more off of the price tag. I'd check before you get one and see if/when your state has a tax free weekend if you're trying to watch what you spend. If you have more questions id be happy to help you out.

I have the 8gb one, I don't run AutoCAD but I don't see why it would be any issue. It ran just fine on my old i5 8gb Sony Vaio. The only program I run that I'd consider somewhat CPU intensive is Bluestacks which runs just fine. As far as bugs go I haven't had any that are worth noting except that sometimes Windows Hello doesn't recognize my face so I'd set up a pin to login to your computer just in case. Also, I'd get a UAG case and a Thule carrying case as well. I cracked the screen on my SP3 and it cost $500 to fix and that's IF you can find someone to repair it. Cracked screens aren't covered by warranty unless you dish out a couple hundred dollars more and surfaces are infamous for being extremely hard and costly to repair.

Per Karlsson would you like to explain, or is this just a passing comment. For the record I have an apple watch, iPad and iPhone. The only reason I chose the Surface Book was because of it's connectivity and design.

So the only reason you chose the Surface was because of its design and connectivity? Then you made a bad choice. As the MacBook Pro has many advantages over the Surface Pro.

+Alan Flynn because it really runs that much faster. Premiere needs time to transcode and all that but with Final Cut I just import and start editing with zero optimization. Also export time is killer. This is MY workflow and opinion. Like I said in the video no one really cares about opinion because they are going to formulate their own. Just like you did.

Perhaps that's a silly question (I'm not a pro video editor), but why not give Cyberlink Powerdirector a try? I use it because of it's high speed and easy handling. Runs great on my Surface pro 4.

Kaby Lake is not that great Coffee Lake is the s..t. but its about a year away.

the main reason for that is surfacebook was released in 2015 while mbp was in 2016. no idea why apple missed the kabylake, they could of had lpddr4 support but r stuck in 2015 hardware. surfacebook 2 is supposed to come beginning pf 2017 and im betting anything that it will have nvidia 10XX and kaby lake.

I'm not aware of any laptops that could replace your desktop, let alone laptops with the Surface's form factor. You'd have to rely on external hard drives.

Great review!.... My sister just got the MacBook 13 w-Touchbar.... she is a journalist and she loves it so far. She likes the traditional laptop mode and do not see benefits for touchscreen on Mac OS... On the other side, I just got a first generation Surface Book i7,16,512+dGPU and my decision was made after using a Surface Pro 3 of my office for a couple of month.... The touchscreen + Windows 10 really grew on me and I loved the versatility of having a full powered tablet. I bought the SBook for 3D industrial designs, and even if its under-powered when compared to workstations, it has performed like a champ... and I wanted to work anywhere. The Pen helps me draw sketches and ideas, and the powerful internals allow me to design them later.

Do you have a tablet at home alongside ur laptop? A lot of ppl do, granted in laptop mode rarely will u need to touch ur screen, but this computer u can detach the screen and its litterally a tablet which it replaces. I found myself using it a lot in tablet mode or whenever I take note during school with my pen. Pen + Touch in tablet mode is incredible. A laptop doe with only touch screen is kind of useless I ahve to agree but thats not the case with surface book.

I got the Surface Book this year instead of the new MacBook (I have always used Mac until now) and I have to admit that I'm using the tablet/pen waaay more than I first expected. The fact that you can also attach the screen the other way around so you can fold it outwards is really nice (that's how I'm using it right now lol). It's also very handy to just use the tablet in class for notetaking and still have the possibility to turn it into a "full laptop".

rollX: Windows does not make anything, it is an Operating System. There are hundreds of brands making 'normal' laptops for years already with Windows on it. So, what's exactly your point? And don't try to dictate what kind of device 'we' want. 'We' are all individually quite capable of figuring that out for ourselves without your help, thank you very much...

I don't know is there any new surface book will be released next feb or not yet. But this performance base is not worth for me tho. But if they will release a surface book 2, that should be interesting, hopefully it will use kaby lake CPU, with usbC and also, keep SD slot:). Oh, hopefully they change the hinge, so there will be no gap

Most peripherals people have at home are not USB-C, most peripherals currently for sale in stores are not USB-C. While not including USB-C in the new performance base (besides keeping the current USB-A) is a small miss from MS I personally find it less than a problem compared to the lack of USB-A ports on the new macbook. Also, given the huge amount of hardware out there, I don't think most manufacturers are ready at this moment to completly remove the USB-A sockets from their devices since it will upset potential buyers.

The IOS algorithm makes it a lot more challenging than windows because its constantly changing. Although it is doable and has been done in the past, the hard work to learn how to bypass the IOS is not worth it when you have another much larger body of water full of fish that's easily accessible due to all the proven windows viruses out there. In the end nobody is safe, but it's nice to have an extra layer of protection from the iOS.

Apple is using end-to-end encryption and actually cares about my privacy. Microsoft does not. I don't like putting my personal data on some companies computer. Still using my OwnCloud in my living room. But Apple makes it super easy for developers to use the iCloud that's why you find soooo many 3rd Party Apps using the iCloud to give you great cross device experiences. You won't get that too much with Windows. But for me as a programmer Windows is no option anyway, no Unix shell and a lot of other reasons. Nevertheless, Microsoft did a great job on their surface products and It's great to see, that Windows users actually get some great devices. The surface studio also looks really nice.

WuschelofDespair Windows 10 has Unix-like shell, Windows Subsystem for Linux. It works really well and if you're in the Insider program (which is open to everyone) it's even using the latest Ubuntu 16 base.

WuschelofDespair windows have onedrive in the cloud with office 365. It's safe to use win10 also. They care about your privacy. Probably you used win xp or win 7 and hated them and never used windows again. But windows is definitely progressing.

chocolate42 I have used Linux (Ubuntu) as my main OS for 3 years. So if I'd leave OS X again it go to Linux. There is (almost) no way I'd go back to Windows. It's nice to hear, that there are some ways to get a Unix-like shell on Windows, that's cool. If it can use all the nice Unix Tools as well, even better. If it has a great package management system, hell yeah. But it's not like I miss Windows, you know. I don't feel forced to leave Windows for the Unix shell and stuff. I just don't like Windows and don't miss it even slightly.
