Northrop Grumman’s Mobile Acquisition, Cueing & Effector (MACE) works in conjunction with Bushmaster® Chain Guns® and ammunition to identify, track, and eliminate unmanned ground and arial systems to address each step in the kill chain.
The M230LF Chain Gun, or the newly adopted XM914 US Army variant, is a 30x113 mm Chain Gun®, featured here on the Bushmaster Gun Truck. The system utilizes XM1211 High Explosive Proximity-fuzed ammunition and the XM1198 High Explosive, Dual Purpose-Self Destruct rounds.

Will you be partnering with Ford to offer this as a factory option on the new Broncos?

No, that's just a Tremor accessory (why do you think I bought one instead of a Bronco)?

That extending vertical segmented tower on the MACE truck is the coolest thing in this vid lol. I wanna see a closer look at the mechanics of that, how it's stashed away.

Nice job Proximity fused ammunition can be many sizes but obviously normal 30mm is about as small as is practical. Case telescoped ammunition with a programmable proximity fuse was used in the M230LF in the above application so basically 30mm + ammunition. This type of ammunition is becoming very popular for certain applications with the M230LF and associated rounds used on the Apache attack helicopters. And for detractors of this type of ammunition virtually every type of handgun uses case telescoped ammunition. 😎

telescoped ammo is 2x the cost and unreliable

I’ve been searching for a 25x137mm barrel for years ? Any chance I can buy a few of your worn out barrels at Northrop?
@alexblake5743

I'm surprised a proximity fuse can be that small. I thought 40mm was the smallest potential size for a proximity fuse. How small can they get? Can you make a 25mm? Seems to me that a 25x137 would be better because of the higher velocity. The recoil of the 25mm is about the same as 30x113.
@Thomas-fz9xw
@Thomas-fz9xw 2 года назад
30mm proximity fuze is fairly recent, and seems to be the limit for now. Right now 25mm is still just programmable fuze territory (although there has been an RFI for proximity fuzes of that size).
@0MoTheG
@0MoTheG Год назад
30mm is not that small. There are very simple tiny radars on ebay that can do this.
@uglybastard4810
@uglybastard4810 Год назад
by the way 25mm Bushmaster, possibly, will have too much recoil for such light platforms while packing less explosives and fragments in its smaller shells. It's better for armour penetration

Anybody have an idea what the per-round cost is of this kind of proximity fuzed ammo?
@HonksterTheGoose
@HonksterTheGoose Год назад
Probably not too bad, radar proximity fuses have been a thing since WWII, and if they were affordable enough to produce in large quantities then, I doubt it will be any worse today

i wander if this complex can be effective against fast suicide drones like Shahed-136?
@GamerDolphin
@GamerDolphin Год назад
they are not fast at all, only 150 km / h. This is an easy target for a conventional anti-aircraft gun, programmable shells are useless

Will the ammo explode after a specific time in air if it doesn't hit a target? Would suck to accidentally explode on a non military target when it eventually reaches the ground
@palohagara105
@palohagara105 11 месяцев назад
oh man, it is said in video - 2 types of ammo, one is DualPurpose +Self-Destruct. And no,when drones fly at battlefield,at the opposite (sender-side) is no civilian, as drones have far longer reach as cannon ammo. Even drone operators are securely placed far away,because other projectiles/drones go for them at highest priority, with Radio-emiter sensing

@@jmckenna2k10 It literally does at 1:03. The "SD" in HEDP-SD is self-destruct. The round self-destructs a certain amount of time after being fired. This is old stuff. The Centurion C-RAM (land based version of the Phalanx CIWS) uses self-destructing ammo that was developed for the M163 in the 1960s. If you watch videos of the Centurion firing (particularly if recorded at night) you will see the tracers flying off into the distance and then sparkling like little fireworks: that's the self-destruct.

OK, so we gotta give the producers of this video a little bit of credit for NOT using "a rocking guitar sound track"? Also; I guess this answers the question: How small can a proximity fuse be made? The BIGGER question is; Can't Northrop Grumman afford to use trucks that at least "look military"?

It's better to have an all-in one system. Because if your radio tower there is taken out, all your bushmaster trucks become useless. That's why an all-in one system is better. Something like which Japan developed, the 100kW laser system which tracks the target and fires a laser at it to destroy the drone at kilometres away. The USA could develop a system similar to that, mounted on the back of one of these trucks. Where the laser is powered by a bank of super capacitors, which enable bursts of very high power.
