This is a great binding tutorial. I too enjoyed the very clear and to the point instructions with no extra babble. It didn't bother me at all that the camera wasn't exactly on the stitching because you were very clear about where it should be. Thank you so much.

Newb quilter here! I'll be binding my first real quilt, as opposed to the practice ones I've made for my pups, and I'm looking for different ways to bind, so I can find my own technique. You added lots of into to what I already knew, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm a RU-vid taught quilter, so my own style has become an amalgamation of all you great quilters out there! Also, loved that binding baby you had! Already found some out there. I can't wait ditch my pill bottles now! Thanks!!

I'm an "old" quilter (in both senses of the word), and I've been winging everything about binding up to now, but your video makes it all so much easier and less stressful. Making a baby quilt now for a very special friend and want to be perfect! Thanks loads! (Also for the "tip" that one can simply stick unused pins into one's blouse front! lol) Just that "leave a 1/8" between the two ends when connecting the binding" is wonderful all by itself, but you have taught me a lot of other things besides!

The camera angle wasn't good. In such videos , it's very important to see what exactly the instructor is doing. We couldn't see anything when you were sewing. Instructions were good, but watching exactly what you were doing would have been super useful. Only for a few seconds towards the end the camera focussed close to the sewing area.

Thank you for sharing, I was wondering why you back stitch 10 stitches at the corner before folding the corner and backstitch after sewing round the corner? Your work and explanations are extremely precise and I would have liked to see how the stitching looked on the back of the binding. That is the side that I feel I need to improve.

Good video but a couple of questions. The tool you used to iron the binding before sewing, did it fold the raw edge under? or did you use a stitch that covered the raw edge? I might try it. Love the easy corners. And those clips look really helpful too. Any suggestions for something other than a Binding Baby? Can't afford all these cool gadgets.

I, too, liked the idea of a binding baby, though I have limited funds. I was thinking to try a toilet paper roll and make a slit down one side, wind the binding on it as Bradie did, then place it on a stand-up paper towel holder with a ball on top that unscrews. Then I can put the holder on the table to the side of my machine.

May I ask? Does anyone swear by using bias-cut binding strips? Is joining your with-the-grain strips with a bias seam something that came along as a good compromise? Can anyone tell me if doing the corners is easier or harder with bias binding strips? Having only bound one quilt so far, this intrigues me-- I like the ease, but am very interested in making durable, livable, washable quilts and wonder if bias strips survive any better. Thank you sew sisters and brothers!
@nanodon4

Why can't you double fold the binding strip (fold in half, then fold raw edges inside and press), straddle it over the edge, and sew once instead of going around twice?
@MattSparrow
@MattSparrow 5 лет назад
Loretta Compher hi Loretta! Thank you for the suggestion. I have tried that method in the past, however I found that the fabric moves on the bottom and it misses spots! Then I end up repeating the process anyways. I get better results this way and find that it looks much neater. This is just my personal preference tho, and I think everyone has to find the way that works best for them. 😊

I really am new, learning from you tube, and I'm trying to attach my first binding. But picture is worth a thousand words and i couldn't see where or what you were doing. For instance, after you pull your binding through the binding maker, how do you lay it on the quilt and exactly what part of the binding is being sewn a quarter inch. Also, i have seen binding ironed in half then the doubled raw edges of the binding sewn to the raw edges of the quilt. Then the doubled binding is turned over the quilt edge to the back of the quilt and sewn stitch-in-the-ditch style hopefully catching the edge underneath. So, what is the binding maker for? Why use it at all? Doesn't that create a double-fold binding?
