@@AmyFinehouse01 hi Ella, it's different but elite. There no prizes for 4th. The problem I have with the over the top glorification of it is they didn't achieve anything. Statues and keys to the city for finishing outside a medal , that's ridiculous and doesn't make any sense. I know in this day and age everyone gets a ribbon but in elite sport, the winner gets the prize. Hardly any mention of Spain who won it and over hype for a team who was good, but not great. I haven't heard 1 commentator say, Australia got belted and that's the reality. In any sport worldwide if you finish 4th you don't get any fanfare whatsoever because it's not deserved . A simple well done girls, better luck next time is all that's required.. The hype doesn't equal the performance, world cup or not.

@@Watsupyoutube i agree to an extent, a statue isn't necessary for coming 4th. However, considering the Matildas were ranked 10th (world rankings) prior to the world cup and knocking out France and Canada who were higher than us is a massive step for womens football.

Minimal grass roots funding and support (elite athletes don't just pop up out of nowhere) 5.) They are now fourth in the WORLD. 6.) The first time Australia's ever cracked the semi-finals. -NONE of this applies to the AFL. -The hype is ESSENTIAL to developing the sport. Capitalising on the current spotlight they are in and fully supporting them encourages recruitment. It's a golden opportunity.
