Hey Brody, Memerunner here, and I made the video you're discussing. I make parody videos, and the goal is to make people laugh. I focus mainly on sports for two reasons: 1. The consequences are lower than posting videos of, say, politics. 2. Sports interviews are notoriously surface level and dishonest. For example, when you said to Macklin that the "sharks have so much momentum", it's not like he could call you out for such a blatant falsehood. I use AI to inject some humorous "honesty" where I see it lacking. This was a perfect opportunity. Most people enjoy my videos, and it's very obviously disclosed (as you point out) that they're fake. I'm sure 1% of people read The Onion and take it as fact. Maybe you could just grab a beer and enjoy the fun too. Or maybe you're just jealous that my video got more views than your actual interview? There were some pretty foul AI "interviews" done for Bedard during the whole thing with Corey Perry. You made excellent points, Brodie-- in probably even one year from now, AI will be more convincing, and we have no real tools in place to help identify what is or isn't real. Intuition is only going to work for so long. AI was a Pandora's box, not sure what can even be done about it at this point.

One thing I was afraid of a few years ago when I saw it was possible to make people look like they said something they didn't is even making it look like people did something they didn't. With video being way more available of so much more that goes on than 15 or 20 years ago, someone could easily be framed for a crime with the fake video looking indistinguishable from a real one. Where does that leave us? Video evidence has always been a smoking gun. Now, are we not going to believe it right away when the video evidence is real? For me, that's pretty concerning

Most hockey players already don't like talking to the media this doesn't help. And yeah this post said it was AI but it can be shared anywhere by anyone and they can crop it so the AI part is cut out and try to pass it off as real. And people believe what they want so if someone wants to believe he said it then it doesn't matter if you tell them it's fake they'll believe it. Think about for players that fans are already angry with like Trouba or Marner and someone doing something like that. It wouldn't matter if it was fake people who already don't like them would be fueled by it. It's great that a lot of people can catch that it's not real but it's dangerous for people who creat stuff like this to assume everyone will know it's fake.

I'll be honest Brodie, I LOVED the AI version. They did it to Maurice talking about Bob before game 7 and I think they are hilarious, and of course clearly a joke (at least clear to most of us) There's always going to be dumb people who believe ANYTHING. Well, as bad/corrupt as the political media is at doing their jobs these days, it will only be a matter of time until this is used to sway the masses (think politics, etc).
