I have never seen Happy Feet but holy shit that movie looks dark even without the Mad Max mashup.

Just watched this again after mentioning it on Reddit. This cut is truly epic!

My core memory of watching Happy Feet as a teen was tearing up at the end as the horrible truth of humanity was highlighted; that it would take a colony of penguins putting on a dancing spectacle for us to collectively demand we work as a global community to save them. I found it so damn depressingly real. Left the cinema feeling both impressed and sullen. Wonderfully subversive filmmaking. Man George Miller is a genius.

Why??

I think the reason this doesn't work for me as parody is because Happy Feet actually does get that dark and majestic, in the second half (and in much of the first).
