He’s telling his version of the truth, and using humor to defise the tension and try to bridge the gap between him and the audience. The thing is, that gap was created by him, his show, and the network he was a figurehead of for years. He spent a large part of his life getting well paid being CNN and now he’s trying to undo all the damage he caused. Truth is, he didn’t defend Trump supporters so he’s guilt by association for remaining silent while collecting FAT checks.
