"And the Road Warrior? That was the last we ever saw of him. He lives now... only in my memories." Fun Fact: The dog used in the film, was obtained from a local dog pound and trained to perform in the film. Because the sound of the engines upset him (and in one incident, caused him to relieve himself in the car), he was fitted with special earplugs. After filming was complete, he was adopted by one of the camera operators. Liability Waved Fact: The tanker roll stunt at the end of the chase was deemed so dangerous that the stunt driver was not allowed to eat any food twelve hours before they shot, in the likely event that he could be rushed into surgery. Shocking Backstory Fact: Humungus was originally supposed to be Max's partner Jim Goose. The production decided against this, but left a few hints, such as horrible burns behind Humungus' goalie mask, the use of police vehicles by the raiders, and his own use of a similar weapon to the MFP's standard sidearm.

I never heard that about Humungus, but watching back in the 80’s, I remember thinking maybe it was him.

Several other "fun facts": . The scene where the motorcycle guy flips end over end was not as it was supposed to be. He wasn't supposed to flip more than once, but it looked so cool, the director & producer kept it in the film. The stuntman broke his leg (actually seen if you slow the film down while he flips), and nearly lost his life. . The guy that drove the truck for the final flip over wasn't Mel Gibson nor a stuntman. He was a real truck driver, who was one of only two people on the set who could drive the truck with its quad box gear system. Because the rollover scene was so dangerous, the truck driver was not allowed to eat any food for 12 hours before filming it, just in case he was seriously injured and would have to be rushed to surgery. . Talk about movie continuity: the truck chase scene lasts 14 minutes and 10 seconds during the movie.

The most heart breaking thing out of this whole movie was the destruction of Max's car the pursuit special.

Only one car was built for the first film and it was brought back for MM2. A second car was built and this was the car that was rolled and blown up. The body is in a Mad Max museum in Silverton, New South Wales, Australia. The original car is currently in a movie can museum in Orlando Florida.

I wish I could watch it again for the first time, I enjoyed your reaction. I had this recoded on VHS in the early 90's just used to rewind and watch the tanker chase over and over again.

One of the best action movies of all time. Best mad max movie including fury road. Multiple badass bad guys and a classic movie trope. A group of people being terrorized until an unknown loner comes from nowhere to help them. Great plot And great stunts.

Max was based on the hero archetype from Joseph Campbell's book The Hero With A Thousand Faces. It was a study of various hero myths throughout history among different cultures.

The Gyro Captain is called that because he is flying a gyrocopter not a helicopter. It may look like a little helicopter but it can not vertically take off and land or hover in place like a helicopter. A fact they kind of hide in the movie with some creative editing. While a helicopter's rotor blades are connected to the engine a gyrocopter's are not. The forward motion of the gyrocopter through the air, pushed by the rear facing aircraft motor and propeller, makes the rotor spin and creates lift. This means they need a running start to get the rotor up to speed.

TIL the difference between a helicopter and the gyrocopter. Thanks man!

Gyro copters were popular back in Australia during the 1980s so there would be no shortage of pilots during the movie

You should watch the third one; it’s good (especially the first Act) but it’s not as good (IMO) as the second (not many movies are). Still, it’s essential watching to see what happens to Max’s character.

Who knows what might have happened if the producer wasn't killed in an accident and Miller stepping down only directing the action scenes.

My dad took me to see this in the theater while the rest of our family was on vacation. I was roughly the same age as the Feral Kid so , yeah, not appropriate . Hahah. I loved it though. I'm pretty sure I jumped a foot out of my seat when Wes grabs Feral kid at the edge of the truck hood.

I've watched a lot of reactions of MM2 and this one is probably my favorite. Very observant, I like how you picked up on the fact that Max has lost his humanity and when he crashed his car the only thing he had left was his dog - those things are why he decided to help those people. They were there for him so he's paying them back by driving the tanker, his faith in humanity was restored a little bit. And then kind of betrayed again at the end when he realized they didn't tell him he was hauling sand. And that's why he didn't join them after all that. Great reaction man! Gonna watch more of your Mad Max reactions now.

At 16:25 where the guy is flipping through the air....that stunt man actually died doing that stunt when he landed! But they kept that scene in the movie anyway.

Autogyro's have been flying for nearly 100 years. The pilot is called 'Gyro Captain'. The narrator is the Feral Child as an old men. George Miller was not affiliated with the zombie films. You're thinking of George Romero. Mel Gibson is actually American. He was born in upstate New York to Australian parents and his father moved the family back to Australia for fear of his sons being drafted into the military as this was during the height of the Vietnam War.

Well Raiders of the Lost Ark is certainly right up there. The shootout in Marion's bar in Nepal and the chase scene where Indy captures the truck with the Ark are certainly two of the best action scenes in the history of cinema just in that one movie. Still, nothing, absolutely nothing beats the extended chase scene in Road Warrior. That one remains the absolute #1 best.

Mel Gibson can be called Australian/American.He was born 50 miles outside of NYC and lived there until his family moved to Australia when he was 12.He used to have an Aussie accent,but now he pretty much sounds American.

The first one was such a low budget that Miller worked in a ambulance to come up with 1/2 the budget. Ferral boy was the narrator. The cop cars in the first and Max's car were Ford Falcons which were discontinued in the U.S. in the 1960's but Ford kept making them for Australia into 2014 I think.

Not a fun fact, when Mad Max was 1st released in the U.S. The promoters in the states didn't think the American audiences wouldn't be able to understand the Aussie accent so it was released with everyone's voice BADLY dubbed. Max had a Texas drawl. Of course the U.S. audience found out then heard the Aussie accent basically what were the promoters thinking. Of course us Aussies were not impressed

I love the Mad Max movies. Story is always simple, but the stunts are over the top level. Even in the newest one of 2015 with Tom Hardy. Looking forward to see the upcoming ones, Furiosa and Wasteland. Tbh I still like the first movie a bit more than all the other ones that came after, that's probably just my nostalgic streak, I don't know. It's just that a low budget movie created all this what came after, a whole franchise.

What gets lost is no one really knew about Mad Max in the US. The Road Warrior was released in cinemas and was a HUGE hit. No one really knew about Mad Max until cable tv came later in the 80's and we realized it was a sequel. It launched Mel Gibson's world wide career.

Max gets "f-ed up right away" because the shattering of the windshield created a blast of glass in his face AND the metal pipe being used also hit the steering wheel, which caused the car to go out of control due to Max needing to pull his hand away or have it broken. It wasn't that Max was "weak" at that moment, it is that in that situation everything that happened completely took all control OUT of his hands while things were stacked against him.
@reactwithmike
@reactwithmike 2 года назад
I didn’t say he was weak
@herrzimm
@herrzimm 2 года назад
I put "weak" in quotes, because I have heard people saying that the crash scene shows us how weak Max really was all along. That everything up until this was a bluff. But once it gets real and in his face, he suddenly caves and loses it. Obviously, those people can't understand that the situation is designed specifically to show that once things get chaotic, and Max can't control how he can respond to the chaos, it goes off the rails. But as long as he is taking part in the chaos, he is capable of dealing with it.

Fury road was the worst Mad Max. I mean passed the movie itself. The Max character was bad. It's like they took his MOJO. Felt like 90 percent of the movie he was tw&t. They basically made the mane woman character Mad Max. I don't care if they introduced a strong woman. But they kinda did it while making Max seem weaker. It's the 3rd best and 3rd movie thunderdome. But they didn't at least weak up Max to introduced the female character.
