as I said in Young Guns 2 comments this movie is considered to be the closest thing to historically accurate for a movie. In real life Billy and the gang really were trapped in the house however there was no shoot out when they escaped. to this day no one knows how they got out except that they were able to sneak out undetected. The Buckshot Roberts shootout really did happen however instead of him being trapped in a outhouse it was a small house they surrounded him in. what's fascinating about that shootout was in real life not only did Buckshot kill Dick & injure Chavez & Doc like the movie portrayed. He actually injured 2 additional men in the group (talk about going out like a G). Also Buckshot didn't come at them like the movie portrayed, he was actually trying to leave town when the regulators came for him & he wasn't about to surrender. Also in the scene where Billy kills Mcclosky the traitor. In real life it was never proven if he really was a spy. some of the men including Billy were mad at Murphy's men and they wanted blood so they turned on him just for being apart of Murphy's gang in the past. There was a argument but most of them were so mad they killed him as he pleaded for his life telling them he really wasn't a spy. Many historians believe he was a victim of the circumstances. Finally even though the regulators did get badges in real life there never was a intent to arrest Murphy's men like the movie portrayed. Most of them were bloodthirsty & like minded just like Billy & killed as many of Murphy's men as they could which is why Buckshot refused to surrender cause he knew they would try to kill him anyways just like the others.

One little correction I forgot to mention. After the regulators escaped mcsween & his law partner were either confused as the regulators or purposely shot because the regulators had escaped. Some say his white shirt made him a easy target.

Couple of cool pieces of trivia. The guy that plays pat garrett is John Wayne's son. Lew Wallace was the govenor of NM at the time. He was writing the book (which later became the movie) Ben Hur at the time.

The only picture of Billy showed him holding his rifle in the left hand which was in reverse. He was actually holding it in his right hand.

A great movie and for the most part its a true story with some dramatic enhancements. The shoot out in the end actually happened in real life, but not quite as crazy as in the movie 😁

Tom Cruise had a 'blink & you'll miss' cameo at the end shootout!! Absolute love this film 🤠 If you haven't done already, definitely check out the 2nd film I agree with Tank, you have to watch The Shield, one of my fave tv shows of all time

This triggered a theme of hot, young cowboy movies and tv shows. One gem was tv show The Young Riders (starring a young josh brolin and anthony zerb, melissa leo). Great 90’s tv series. Created by an ancient western producer and influenced by modern themes. Not as adult as deadwood or anything as it was made for dinner-time tv. Good cast, premise, locations and good in and out storylines each episode. Melissa Leo showing she had the oscar chops before she got the respect. Pretty sure the whole series is on youtube.

Terrifically interesting trivia in this movie. The whore Charlie wanted to be held by was actually his mother. On one of Emilio’s days off he got in costume and played one of the bad guys shooting at the house. And he wasn’t the only bad guy in disguise in the movie. Tom Cruise is a random disguised cowboy getting shot in this movie - his first western appearance.

Both young gun movies were great but historically not accurate, some things were true like the shoot out where Dick Brewer (charlie Sheen) was killed but in reality Buckshot Roberts also died fro m his wounds 2 hours later, Charlie Bowdre was not killed at the Macsween house battle, he was killed at stinking springs a few months later by Sherriff Pat Garret's pose which in the second movie shows Doc Scurlock being the one killed there but in reality Doc Scurlock left New Mexico and Billy the kid for Texas after the Lincoln county war and never spoke about it his entire life and he died in his bed in 1929 and there was no Chinese lady either. Although many people still to day debate whether Pat Garret actually shot and killed Billy the Kid at Fort Sumner in july 1881 because it was dark and Garrett could not see Billy when he fired and Billy or whomever was apparently un-armed which meant even though Garrett was sherrif would have been murder. But then again that is what many historians still debate, and we all know that all Hollywood movies are never true to History due to Dramatic effects and story telling, because Braveheart too was totally inaccurate i mean the battle of Sterling bridge was an actual bridge and not an open field battle as shown in the movie. In any rate i hope you enjoyed these two movies of Henry McCarty aka William H. Bonney aka Billy the Kid and for the second movie Bon Jovi sang a great theme song called "Blaze of Glory"

Young Guns 2 is just as good if not better than the first. Definitely worth seeing. And the actor who plays Chaves is Lou Diamond Phillips. He starred in a phenomenal rock n roll movie based on a true story called “La Bamba” (1987) Cannot recommend that movie enough! A great film.

@@BAReactions I’d suggest not to look up anything about the film, or the real life person it’s based on that Lou Diamond Phillips plays in it. Everyone in The US would know all this already, but you being from England probably wouldn’t. So it’d be a unique and interesting treat for someone to go into that movie and story completely blind.
