The first Matt Draper video of the year? WHAT A LOVELY DAY!!!!!! In all seriousness, Fury Road is amazing. I’ll admit I wasn’t a fan of either the first Mad Max or Thunderdome. I like Road Warrior a lot but Fury Road on a whole other level. It’s a great example of a film from an old franchise that puts all of its effort and brings action movies to a whole new level. Still can’t believe George Miller made this along with Babe and Happy Feet.

George Miller is what every old-time director still working in Hollywood should be, a guy who does his own thing even as the rest of the game has changed.

sadly i’m extremely late to this incredible movie, only having seen it for the first time back in december. i still got the impression though that it was a very important film with themes that would always be relevant. it’s really nice to see that people still find enough value in it to make a video like this 5 years later. your essay was beautifully written and moving and i just want to say thank you for this. cheers!💕

It's amazing how, even with the obviousness of it, the film's message is widely ignored by many of the people who saw it. They're willing to dig deep and find the "hidden meanings" of many other movies that don't challenge their perceptions but aren't willing to take movies like this at anything but face value, even if, often, they have a much more important message. Some people just see what they want to see. It always fills me with hope when people that live outside the margins are willing to recognize and support progressive, positive messages in popular media. Tells me that what we fight for isn't being wasted. Thanks for this, amazing video.

In the Grim Darkness of the Future there is not only war, but people, who continue to live even in these dark times. The strange thing of mankind is that we are able to look beyond our own survival, and do both good and evil. The Dark Times do not kill hope, but instead it becomes strong when humans realize that it still lives. In a twisted way Mad Max Fury Road shows that hope can be inspired even when they someone as broken as Max can believe in it. The World may end and destroy our society and civilization, but it cannot kill hope not unless all of mankind dies to the last man, woman, and child.

All these years later, I've come to realize that this film is the very essence of hopepunk. Yes, all forms of hope are fundamentally insane. As sane is derived from the Latin word "sanus" which means "whole", how can it not be? An unbroken world has no need of hope but a devastated one needs it to heal. But hope must have a true focus and a tangible goal to keep it on course. Fury Road nails that dynamic to a tee.

I think the first two Terminators are long overdue for this type of analysis, especially considering the internet like to act that the franchise has only now become leftist with themes of female empowerment. If people didn't also complain about leftism in comics like it hasn't been a thing before 2014, I'd call it sad, but as it stands, it's pretty expected.

my top film. no script, just a storyboard - comic like. Hence Miller's preferred viewing being sound and colors off (black & chrome edition). tiny details maintained, like maxs O- blood type tattooed on his back near the start, "universal doner", leading to maxs quick saving of furyosa, with his patriarchal mens blood. And that theres no place on earth with days of salt at 60mph everyday: unless the oceans have dried up, leaving the sea salt as desert dunes. Clear action maintained by always having the subject dead center in the frame, even drawing a crosshair on the film cameras viewfinder during action scenes. Winner of the oscars best wardrobe award, the ceremony being a stage of dresses on manicans and presenter, only to give to the designer of the warboys, who accepted the award in jeans and a black leather biker vest, amidst the dresses😂😂😂 lastly: miller didnt know about the feral child theory, that Hardy's max maybe the child from previous entry, music box included, and when asked for his name its like hes saying it for the first time - mimicking his childhood hero. but miller likes the idea in a video on ign: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9fTccDxmSmM.html

Awesome vid! You are the only youtuber I comment on. I liked your dissection, but I wish you would have zeroed in on some of the "mother/child" relationships and the biblical elements. Max eating the lizard/snake in the beginning instead of stomping it. Max being the "universal donor" and him being Nux's "mother" through their umbilical cord, until Nux is "born" and you learn his name is like some "son of Max" type stuff. As well as the war rig being a giant womb full of innocent lives with a hope and future. Happy 2020! Looking forward to your content!

I don't think Fury Road is a feminist movie. Maybe it was intended to be, but when the old dried up women in the "green place" can't even make simple plants grow, I think it's clear the real core of the movie is that men and woman need each other. The two main characters and the way they work together represent this idea. It's such a stupidly simplistic and boring idea that "men ruined the world and women can save it", and it never rang true for me while watching this movie

@@Peasham Is it really that, though? To me it felt like the movie is saying that protesters (who are mostly comprised of racial minorities) are like sheep just looking for an excuse to riot and cause mayhem, following and idolizing a dangerous man who doesn't actually believe in their cause. None of the protesters are actual characters, you might even call them NPCs, and in the obligatory "Bruce Wayne's parents get murdered" scene, the guy who does it is so comically sinister - it's no longer a robbery gone wrong, now he's intentionally murdering people in front of their child, with absolutely no remorse. Also, if we are to follow the interpretation that actually, it's all an hallucination, isn't the the film kinda telling us it's all pointless? It doesn't feel like the film's intended audience is the protesters, but rather everyone else who should be afraid that this could happen. The film does present several harsh realities - the rich are entitled and uncaring; the government cuts funding to crucial programs for the disenfranchised; and mental health in the US is a sad joke. But it also doesn't do a very good job at portraying the people influenced by this other than Arthur - like, EVERYONE is so mean in this movie. Children beat the crap out of him for no reason, Robert De Niro's talk show host is unnecessarily cruel, and the only person who was nice to Arthur (SPOILER I guess) actually never even interacted with him. To me this feels like the movie's message is mostly nihilistic - society sucks, everyone sucks, even the people in the street, and there's nothing you can do about it really, except maybe try to be a murderer. I mean, overall I thought it was very effective when watching it, but the more I think about it, the more I get the feeling that this film either has no intended message, or worse, it has the opposite message than it seems to have.
@Peasham
@Peasham 4 года назад
@@ShirDeutch Nope. Every single thing that's wrong with the city is directly the fault of the greed of the rich. We know they're doing fine, we know they have resources, yet they cut funding to the city's infrastructure like there's no tomorrow, as seen with all the trash. We understand why the regular people are what they are, because everything in their life's shit, but there's absolutely no excuse for the rich people. The rich people are the root of the problem, the movie says you should eat them for cutting services for their own short-term benefit, and that's leftist as fuck. Also, please go watch the movie, the dude at Arkham's nice to Arthur, the midget's nice to Arthur, and so's the girlfriend. Funnily enough, they're minorities, who you think are violent sheep that are looking for an excuse to protest (cute dogwhistle by the way). And wouldya look at that, they're all stuck in the same system as Arthur, and are brought down by the rich all the same. It's almost like both good and bad people are crushed under the weight of the system. Oh, the Waynes' murder was supposed to be a murder, Murray's also part of the rich, and unironically calling other people NPCs instantly and embarassingly makes you hypocritical.

Fury Road left a lot to be desired in the opening scenes. I still to this day have no idea if it is a sequel/continuation of Mel Gibson's version or if this was a complete reboot of the character. If it was a reboot of the character then this movie definitely missed out on giving this character more development. Tom Hardy's version was good but he was just too...idk, kinda just there. He wasn't a stand out character at all and this is a Mad Max movie. This movie felt more like Furiosa's solo movie than a mad max film. I loved the movie so don't get me wrong but if i had to critique this movie I'd say the first 3 were better in my opinion. I didn't enjoy the feminist take of this movie at all, great scenes and action sequences for sure, but any movie that tries to imply or invoke that a particular sex as being the cause of so much destruction and despair feels out of touch to me. It didn't feel like an actual Mad Max movie and it should have focused on HIM not Furiosa. I didn't mind her having a back story to relate to, but the movie should have been about Max primarily and it was barely about him at all even though he was the title character. Too bad Mel Gibson wasn't involved, i feel like he needed to be in this. His ideas would have greatly improved this movie.

Wait? Fury Road has feminist themes? Ugh, I hate it, it’s woke garbage! No but seriously, this is a great movie. I only saw it couple years ago but it has replaced Mad Max 2 as my favorite of the series. I saw the Furiosa prequel couple days ago and I guess it was pretty good but unfortunately I couldn’t really enjoy it as I kept thinking of Fury Road and how it’s not as good. And because it was a prequel, I knew what was going to happen and how it would end when it began so most of the time I just kept waiting for the movie to hit certain plot points. And you could tell that where Fury Road used a lot of practical effects that were enhanced by visual effect, Furiosa was the opposite where it was mostly visual effects and that also deterred my enjoyment. But I think it works better if you watch Furiosa first and Fury Road after it.
