An important lesson I learned from this movie is how action is definitely better when it's practical. No I'm not saying when the effects are practical. I'm saying when the action actually serves a purpose and isn't happening just to be cool. In a lot of these blockbusters we see random buildings get destroyed just for the sake of it. Everything in every action scene in this movie served some kind of function. The vehicles had crazy designs but those designs were done to accomplish certain goals. Those spiked vehicles were used very effectively and those ones with the poles sticking out came into play in a way that made total sense. So much thought was put into these designs and the action choreography. Nothing was wasted or pointless. Even the flamethrowing guitar was logical!

Dude you have the same view as me on Tom Hardy in this movie. It felt like he was playing Tom Hardy at times more than he was playing Mad Max. That one grunt at the end during the blood transfer scene reminded me of all of his dialogue in Lawless and I was like man, dont do that for Max, he's not that kinda guy. Anyway, I still thought he was awesome in it and the movie was amazing.

I agree with you on everything. Tom Hardy was my only issue with the movie. I heard the Bane voice as well for a brief moment, but I'd like to point out that Hardy did a good job, I just don't think he was given enough lines to really flesh out his take on Max. But overall, an awesome movie. Thanks for the vid man.

I think Tom Hardy's perfomance as Mad Max is perfect. I haven't seen the previous movies but the fact that he at first delivers almost no lines or just mumbles and at the end he speaks clearly is what made the film so amazing for me. His perfomance showed that at first he didn't really trusted Furiosa or anyone else but at the end the bond between the characters were good enough so that Mad Max decided get rid of his selfisolation because he trusts them.

I absolutely loved this movie! The visuals as you say are stunning, I just didn't want it to end. The momentum the film has is brilliant, there isn't a dull moment. I also thought the soundtrack was superb. I share your thoughts on Tom Hardy, I like him a lot as an actor but I wanted slightly more dialogue from him. But what an incredible movie! Can't wait to watch it on blu-ray.

They are available on DVD and I think they are on RedBox or other online services. In any case, Fury Road is only very loosely connected to the previous ones; it's a sort of soft reboot. But even so, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior is considered a classic action film, so if you are a fan of action movies, it's a must see.

My biggest pet peeve about this movie was how Max just nodded and grunted through the first half of the movie. I get the character doesn't talk much but some actual lines worked much better, which is how it was in the second half of the movie. I thought it was a great ride and it can stand alone without needing to continue the original trilogy. But I also enjoyed the nods and references to the original movies like the thunderdome, wind up musical toy, original Mad Max car and his jacket. I was hoping this movie would be amazing and it lived up to my expectations but it's not the movie of the year as some are labeling it.

A slow to get on the mad max train but watched it a few days ago and boy, was it amazing. The post apocalyptic world was so macabre, bizarre and simple crazy/insane and visually STUNNING. The vision George Miller had for this world was so well executed by costuming and makeup. So exciting to watch. Just wish they dove into that world more and explained a few things. Also, didn't help that I was clueless as to what was happening and WHY for a good third of the beginning of the movie. But I was distracted by how the movie looked. It was like, look at this! Now this! Bang!- look at that!!! It was crazy exhausting. The Aussie actors were a bit....eh, not a fan cos I know who they are. Too many moments of "oh, him. Didn't know he was in it". "Hey, isn't it that guy from xyz?". The cars were fantastic. So Aussie! Hahhaha. Oh and, tom hardy, too much mumbling. But he was ok. Didn't know much about max and furiosa was the main character and max happened to be along for the ride. Hahahha. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I love your channel, john!!! I should probably comment more but some dudes in here are harsh! Xxx

The Extra-Terrestrial, Apocalypse Now, etc. I just hope it lives up to the hype! Catching the last matinee today. That'll my 3rd time. Eff yeah baby! And yes you could be a Mad Max villain with those lats - sheesh dude eat a donut or something. No seriously there are a lot of commonalities like the hulking villains in masks (Erectus had a subtle rubber mask as well - very creepy.) I also agree re: Hardy - he was great but Mel is to Max what Christopher Reeves was to Superman or what Sean Connery is to Bond; it's gonna take something really special to dethrone them. They ARE those characters. About the Bane thing, I caught that too but remember Bane sounds like Tom Hardy (it's not just a voice Tom Hardy does) so we might have that somewhat inverted.

Great review mate, I just saw the film and I was impressed, It's no MAD MAX 2 : The Road Warrior, but it comes a close second, Mad Max 1 was good, but the last half is where the movie picks up, Mad Max 3 Had a great first half but became muddled in the end and tina turner just wasn't doing it for me as the villain. Tom Hardy was a good choice for max and he does a decent job, however he is missing the sort of sympathetic side of max, for example like in the 2nd film when max becomes a sort of friend with the feral kid, he even smiles on occasions, but I think Tom Hardy Missed that, however towards the end of the movie i see a bit of it come through. And yes being an Aussie myself, i can say that Tom Hardy doesn't really pull off the Accent, in fact it's barley there, it sounds like he's trying to combine Clint Eastwood and Vin Diesel half the time, and it just doesn't really work.

Best blockbuster of the year so far. It was my most anticipated blockbuster of 2015 (despite the usual overhype around Marvel releases) and it seems I was right. I´m so happy for Chrlize and Tom Hardy. This is huge. And again, Marvel getting trashed by other blockbusters quality wise. Happens every year :)

John is right! George Miller is 70 years old and this film really feels likes its done by some guy trying to get noticed in Hollywood. I really give him props for going out there and making a new fresh action movie that's not a full of lame action scenes and overused cgi.

Loved it. They didn't show it in IMAX in my town. This movie would have been perfect for it.

Agree with you 100% I loved this movie. I also love Tom Hardy - But I do feel he was a miscast. Went back to Road Warrior after this one and enjoyed it more - mainly because of Gibson. Hardy did not have the Max in him unfortunately, as u said.

I found a Mad Max name generator online, wound up with "Inquisitor Ruin The Youth Killer" The first bit is awesome, the latter not so much. I guess the wastelands are brutal indeed O_O

I loved loved loved this film, I get what you're saying about Tom hardying up the role, but really after Mel killed the role, he would have been panned for trying to imitate that I think. 100% agree on the incredible shots and visuals, god I wish there were 20 George Millers out there to give Cinema back the practicality and beauty that he gave in this movie. All elements worked for me, the frantic pace, the constant sense of unease, the performances from all the main characters! I really liked the minimal set up, they let the actions show the motivations of the characters, the over the top stuff was some of my favourites!!!

Why can't this be classified as a reboot? From everything I've heard you don't need to see the others movies to know what's going on in this one and there's apparently no connections to the previous movies either, other than the name Mad Max which is played by a different actor. So why not just call it a reboot? Although, I guess you could say it's more of a James Bond sequel? Different actor in the lead, not really a continuation of the previous Bond films but still connected to the franchise. So I guess every decade or so they could get a new Mad Max to continue the ongoing adventures? I don't know. Anyway, definitely looking forward to seeing it. Can't wait!

cmurphylife Thats not true, it is a weird pseudo sequel. For example there isnt any character development for max besides those flashbacks, thats because those flashbacks are hinting to Mad Max 1 where his family is murdered and he goes on a killing spree.
