Follow up from the Dual-Triode 12AX7 Test Harness... This was the other frequently used circuit used in many tube amps. Best I can tell, this is a cathode follower or a mu-multiplier. Most often I've seen this topology used for driving effects loops, but there are a few examples of this being used in the first gain stage to drive the tone block.
