Really enjoyed this video, as usual learned lots about pre & tube amps. Also show casing some really nice vintage 6SN7 tubes, always intrigues me to buy more tubes (lol).

Really enjoying and learning a lot from your videos... thank you so much! I own the R8 along with the Freya plus. Do you recommend the Freya as a buffer? If so, which input ("pre-in" or "cd") on the R8 do you recommend for connection?

I have the same question Henry. I have the R8 with a Schitt Saga+ in front. I run it into the preamp inputs on the R8, which cuts out the volume control on the R8, allowing the Saga+ to handle the volume. But, just today, I was considering running the Saga+ into one of the other inputs on the R8. I think that means I'll be riding the volume on both the Saga+ and the R8, but I'm curious about the resultant sonics. I'm also curious about the general 'good and bad' effects, audible or not, in either of those input scenarios. Further, I read somewhere that running a preamp into the R8's preamp-in doesn't actually bypass the R8's preamp...

I've always used the pre IN, it only biapasses the volume control but that's a good thing, because volume controls always add a certain amount of noise. And the only way to find out if you have an improvement is to plug everything in, roll in your best tubes, sit back and listen to some of your fav high res tracks.

Thanks for your input Phil! The Pre In seems like the logical connection, but was curious on what Bill at tube lab suggests because I've read somewhere that running the signal through the Pre In on the R8 input degrades the sound quality, therefore the CD input is preferred. Bill responded suggesting the Pre In input as well. Thanks

@@tubelab194 thank you Bill! Running the Freya with a solid state amp and have been hesitant of trying the Feya with the R8. This video motivated me to try, but you didnt mention your connection. I will connect through the Pre in and give it a listen. Thanks again.
