There is a singer singing on the intrumental - Tip of the tongue track by Mad Skillz. Just a snippet but i digg it. Brings back that old skool flava with a different fresh melody
It ain’t that VA doesn’t have a sound. VA does have a sound. People still biting Missy sound and style to this day. The industry has always used VA as a gold mine to farm for ghostwriters and production. They’ll build offices there in VA Beach or Norfolk. But, Emcees get boxed out. It’s hard. Very hard. And the hometown does not support until you popping already. It’s a big reason why Clipse and Gillie had such a chip on their shoulders about ghostwriting for Lil Wayne and Baby - and the beat jacking.
I had the singles for Nod Factor and Move Ya Body both on cassette and 2 copies of From Where cuz the first one popped from running that shit so crazy in my walkman...thank God The Wall used to let niggaz bring they tapes back long as you had that sticker on it
One of my FAVORITE LYRICIST. Not just a Rapper,,, but LYRICIST! Been rocking with Mad Skillz since 'The Nod Factor'. Yeah I just told my age so wat! Mad Skillz is ONE of the lasts ones from the Era where Hip-Hop was still considered da Pure and Truest form of Expression. The Era where "Biting" was NOT allowed. If you were caught "Biting" sumbody elses Rhymes or Style,,,,,, you got Snapped on, Sonned, or even,,,,,, Beat Down. And Ghostwriting,,,,,,,, was looked at as "Biting" because,,,,,,, you were speaking SOMEBODY ELSES WORDS! Its like,,,,,, if THEY can say dat,,,,, then might as well give THEM a Mic, and let em Rock it,,,, Or,,,,, sign THEM to a Deal. It was VERY Taboo. NOW DAYS,,,,,,,,,,,, Everybody Biting off everybody! You WONT be poppin,,,,, if you dont say the saaaaaaaaame thing, da saaaaaaame Slang,,,,,,,,, have da saaaaaaaaaame Swag, da saaaaaaaaaaaame Style,,,,,,,,,, as sumbody else in da Game. Like Skillz said,,,,, deez fools don care about WHO is writing da lyrics. All dey care about is WHAT is said,,,,, and WHO is saying em. Mad respect and Mad props, to a dude who STILL has,,,,,, Mad Skillz. Peace
Skillz is THAT DUDE! The Forerunner for Hip-Hop in VA! He Missy, Pharell, Timbaland, Pusha-T, and all the greats come out of the Commonwealth. Not to mention we have the greatest NFL Defenders in the history of the game to include: Lawrence Taylor, Bruce Smith, Charles Haley, Ken Easely, and Kam Chancellor. Qbs nice too Michael Vick, Russell Wilson, Aaron Brooks, Allen Iverson (that's right that one). Look him up.
I learn something new everyday. I didn't know before this interview that Angela Yee did the hook for "REUNITED" by WU-TANG, I knew she got her start with them, however I never knew she was on any of their songs.
