I replayed Convoy Chase ALL THE TIME as a kid on the Wii version! It's so much fun getting big air off those jumps.

There is no speeding up button. Just hold the 'Accelerate' button to move the car.

Are you sure that you are holding the X button to accelerate? If you are, there might be a problem with the controller that you are using or a problem with the disc.
