Very glad you came to Madagascar. My home for 20 years. One correction to the translator: Mofo means bread, not cake So mofo gasy means malagasy bread. If you want to use the word for cake specifically it is mofo mamy, which is translated literally as sweet bread. Also, most of the bananas in Tana come from the coast, not in town. And banana's will not ripen on the plant. It is picked green and then ripened over 1-2 weeks. But Madagascar bananas are the best. And Malagasy street food is amazing!

If you are not fussy and germaphobic ,Antananarivo's street food is just amazing.I spend 2 years in Madagascar and these cheap food shacks wherever you go in town ,in the countryside or the coast is the most amazing food experience I ever had.
I was told not to eat street food here but if it is mofo (bread) that is freshly cooked I will tear that up 😋 When I leave Madagascar next year I will definitely be cooking some of the foods at home.
Just so you know, the bitter taste in the fish is the bile. I know because I saw you bite right in the middle of the fish by its ventral region. As Americans, the fish that we buy in markets (except some butcher shops) have the organs removed like heart, liver (where bile is produced), and intestines. The fish you ate @9:35 is hollow in the area which suggests they removed the organs...though you were probably unlucky to have that one fish that didn't have the bile-producing organ removed. Bile isn't really harmful but it does not taste good. These things happen..I've tasted that bile more than a handful of times in my life.
It has been 2 months that I've been diagnosed with gout and cholesterol and it's so frustrating because I have to walk in the street without having the possibility to eat any of those delicious fried delights.
