Valerie Masterson (Cio-Cio-San) and Ann Howard (Suzuki) in the Act 3 duet: "Tutti i fior" from Madam Butterfly by Puccini.
The BBC Concert Orchestra is conducted by James Lockhart.
This performance was recorded at the Royal Festival Hall on 12th September 1989.
Throughout her career Valerie Masterson sang regularly in concerts and broadcasts of operatic highlights. Here she sings a delightful duet from Madam Butterfly, a role that she never performed on stage and whose dramatic soprano demands would not have suited the lighter weight of her voice. However, together with Ann Howard, she works her magic in this excerpt, with charm and delicacy.
This short duet is sung by Butterfly (Cio-Cio-San) and Suzuki as they deck the house with beautiful flower petals in anticipation of Pinkerton's return.
