Madden 93 was my first and I was the best on madden 10 and 13.. 10 and 13 had good engines. This new crap without user catching is dumb. PS2 had the best user catching and gameplay overall.
It scared me for the first phew times, but then I got use to it. It was really cool since we never seen games like that good since tetris. Thurman Thomas was unstoppable no matter what happened.
Wow! It amazes me that this football series has improved so much within 20 years. If you think about it, thats really not a long time. Imagine what Madden would look like in 20-30 years from now.

09 is when it got how it is today. Which was my favorite Madden. 10 was worst than 09, but 11 does look more fluid in mechanics and sharper graphics than all of the others. 12 looks pretty much like 11 from what I've seen on youtube videos. Hopefully 13 is actually an improvement. I didn't even buy 11 and 12 and returned 10 after a few days.
I started collecting Madden games two years ago. I currently own Madden-Madden 96 on SNES, Madden 2001-2008 on PS2, Madden 07-11 on PS3. I used to own Madden 2002 on N64, Madden 06 on 360, Madden 09 on DS, Madden on 3DS, and Madden 12 on 360.

I think the best football games of all time are: Madden 2005, NFL 2K5, Tecmo Super Bowl (NES version), NFL Quarterback Club '96 (GEN version), and NFL (SNES).
That is wrong on so many levels. To keep this short, all i will say is that consoles are outdated in terms of hardware. Yes it is true that TV resolution will make the picture quality better thus making graphics "appear' better but the fact is that consoles can only achieve so much in terms of graphics where as a 2012 gaming PC can output more. For example, you can't say that the console version of BF3 on a 1080p TV is going to look the same as the PC version running at max settings.

All they have done in the last 12 years is tweak the graphics a bit. 2001 was the first year on PS2 and they went all out that year and put every game to shame and haven't really done much since the money start rolling in.
It really peaked at 05 in terms of the simulation aspects. After EA bought out the rights the game started declining until 08, when it hit rock bottom. It wasn't much better at all in 09, then it picked back up in 10, then just crashed again with 11, and now it's pulling back up. Nowhere near as good as it can be.
I played all the Maddens on Sega Genesis up to '94, which was a huge step backwards. Just notice how it suddenly gets more cheesy-looking/sounding at that point, and the game play becomes incredibly slow. The gameplay and controller response itself also got very bad. I didn't play any versions after, but it looks like it remained pretty bad up until '97... Cool video, though!
I like 13's gameplay but I hate that they took out the existing franchise mode/having several franchises on one system/create-a-team/fantasy draft. I do like the week-to-week stuff in career mode though, even if it does get tedious at times.

the graphics on Madden 03 on computer were waaaaaay ahead of its time. It's sad to think back though at how much better NFL2K would have been if EA hadn't stole the rights to use NFL player names.
after madden 2001 its pretty much all looked the same. I guess those guys at EA actually went to work that year. For the past 12 years they give us a tweak here and there and make millions.

MADDEN 2003/4 on PS2, I thought were the best until ESPN NFL 2K5 (STILL THE GOAT) MADDEN 2013 on PS3 the best now! but console generations are not a fair comparison...
I don't. EA monopolized the market and doesn't care about how bad gameplay is. Play madden 03, then madden 11 or 12, you'll notice madden 03 is significantly more fun.

QB Vision in Madden 06. Throwback! Forced people to have to deal with the real life flaws of non elite QB's. Peyton's was the entire field, Vick's was super small.
haha no Tecmo Bowl was EASILY the best football game ever made, it also had a create a player back in like 92..and any true football fan/gamer would agree with me!
They are certainly not getting worse. Each new one is technically better than the previous one. However, in the past several years there has definitely been diminishing returns at play. I can't argue that any of the past few Maddens have been significantly better than the one directly before it. As a whole they've made great strides, but not enough to warrant a new $60 game every year.
When I was 6 in 1998, I got my first madden cartridge, does the youtube generation even know what they are? ahahaha anyway, I'm glad that i've always bought their games instead of illegally downloading them... It's nice to see that my money is helping to make a better one. Hope we don't illegally download this game, I'd be shits pissed if I hear madden 2015 ain't coming out cause they don't have enough money to make another game.
what i notice is that the system of play looks completely revamped every 2-3 years. for example, the look changes in '93 and stays that way till '97, then it changes again in '00, then again in '02, and again in '05. the only differences are subtle things like added features in strategy/play movement, etc., as well as maybe a few artistic changes. but the overall look stays the same for 2-3 years. just my opinion.
I totally agree! now the ps3 version of like madden 12 and madden 13 is actually pretty good for the most part but there was a big slump for a while.. almost like from 2004-2008 it was the same game just new rosters.. and from 2001-2003 the same game essentially.. and i still hate EA for being douche bags and making nfl football games a monopoly.. both madden and 2k could have been very good games if they would have had competition but the only game on the market for years was madden
hmm idk.. i mean i like a couple features on 11 and then 12 was for the most part good.. other than that ive always been very dissapointed with madden games. been looking forward to when 2k gets back in the game. I just always was dissapointed in madden because they where so slow to implament changes and it was basically the same game for many years.. i felt like 2004-2008 where the same game and 2009 had a few changes but not much ..
Madden 98 was the first Madden that actually looked and felt like you were playing football. It was the first one with announcers and you could actually start doing things and really know your play. Madden 99 was pretty much the same. Madden 00 was fucked up ( as you can see in the size differences ). The graphics were better but nothing else was very good. Madden 01-07 was the golden era. Everything was so fun. 01-07 was the golden era. Madden 08-11 sucked. Now, it's sorda bouncing back.

In the same note that you like killin dragons and doing the impossible, and as much as I can go play football outside with some buddies I will never play football with the greats like troy polamalu or catch a pass from michael vick. Or having the ability to own a franchise and cut or draft player to my team. Or even put myself in the game as a quarterback trowing passes to calvin johnson.That is the fantasy aspect
Madden never bought out Gameday. Gameday failed due to horrible porting to the PS2 while Madden's game play remained smooth and fresh, relatively speaking, and 2K Sports came in the game strong. The main reason why no other NFL games exist now is due to EA gaining exclusive rights to the NFL in 2004. This blocked all other manufacturers from creating NFL games past 05. This exclusivity runs to 2014. Hopefully it will not be extended, again, and there will be competition in this genre.
