Another watershed moment for Fully Charged. This is the series I’ll share with friends and family. This is the series that will be used by enthusiasts to make ‘normal’ people aware of the possibilities. Well done FC. Top vid and top production quality too.

If i had to buy an EV. It would likely be a new Kona / e-Niro or a second hand Tesla Model S 70/85/90D of the first gen with unlimited free supercharging though. Or the ID.3. i expect that to be an awesome car. Or the Taycan? 🤔

After 5 years in an EV its really difficult to offer advice to anyone without getting overly complicated or tecnical. Getting Maddie to do this series is perfect. Good presenter with no prior experience is exactly what joe public need. Going to bet that this series is going to get the largest number of views in the next year on the channel. Well done.

Firstly congratulations on a great episode and presenter. I just want to add a few things for inexperienced viewers to clarify details which are maybe slightly misrepresented in this show, possibly because this show might have been filmed a slight while ago. The new 2020 Renault Zoe now comes with DC charging which gives it the same charging possibilities as other EVs. Also the Tesla Maddie looked at is the shorter range version - there is also a longer range version which can do over 300 miles on a charge (if longer range is your top priority). Also as Maddie here perceives, the Hyundai Kona and the Kia Niro have the same batteries and drivetrain, which is why they feel so similar to drive. The Kona has slightly better range because it is a slightly smaller car. Excellent show guys.
@tavi_chocochip
@tavi_chocochip 4 года назад
It’s also worth adding that, in terms of rapid charging (50kW+), currently Tesla has the huge advantage of their SuperCharger network which runs at up to 140kW, and their next-gen Superchargers (v3) which have just started getting installed (Bobby Llewelyn did a short segment a couple weeks ago when the first ones opened in London) can go up to 250kW, depending on the model as well - Model 3 Long Range and Performance can take full advantage of those charging speeds. That, of course, is on top of all the rest of the CCS charging networks. So Tesla Model 3s are slightly more expensive than the Konas and the Niros, but they come with several other benefits, even if you don’t care about the looks. The EV charging network will be expanding rapidly in the next couple of years, I believe, both in terms of rapid chargers for long-distance travel (at motorway rest areas mainly) and fast chargers within cities. L.E.: IONITY, one of the largest rapid charging networks in Europe, a joint venture of VW Group (incl. Porsche and Audi), BMW, Daimler and Ford, have just announced they're transitioning from a fixed €8 per charging session to a new universal rate across its European network of €0.79 / kWh -- so they only charge per amount of energy delivered. Problem is, the Tesla Supercharger network is anywhere between 3 times and 5 times cheaper than that (in the UK, Ionity's €0.79 / kWh means about £0.67, while Tesla charges £0.24 / kWh at their Superchargers), and many EVs with poor kWh / mile numbers -- looking at you, Audi e-tron, and Porsche Taycan -- will cost more to drive the same distance than a petrol car, which is simply ridiculous, and further emphasise the advantage Tesla has in the market.
@Mr_Battlefield
@Mr_Battlefield 4 года назад
@@tavi_chocochip I also would like to know more about those that regularly use Fast Charging like the Super Charger Network. I know that won't be good on your battery in the long run.
@tavi_chocochip
@tavi_chocochip 4 года назад
bobbiesmulders True. However most of the discussion in the video is UK-specific, so while we will probably get a rapid networking similar to Fastned in the next few years, at the moment there isn’t one. And about the e-tron: 1. it can charge at a high rate for a large part of its SOC “range” because Audi gave it a huge battery buffer, which mostly sits unused and causes a terrible efficiency number; the Model 3, for example, charges at a much higher miles/minute rate due to its better efficiency; and 2. it’s in a completely different price range to the cars discussed in the video.
@tavi_chocochip
@tavi_chocochip 4 года назад
Ahmad Haruman Rapid charging is not particularly bad for the battery as long as the battery is well conditioned - meaning it’s kept at the ideal temperature during charging. Try to google Tesloop, it’s a company that’s running a “shuttle” service with Tesla Models S and X between LA and Las Vegas and they’re constantly supercharging, and yet their cars have record mileage and their battery degradation is similar to the average. What will damage a battery faster than normal is deep charge (going to 100% frequently and/or keeping it there for extended periods of time) and deep discharge (going very close to 0% state-of-charge). EV drivers typically stay within 10-80% or even a bit lower at the high end, and only go higher when road tripping with insufficient rapid chargers available.

Award-winning eh? What did she get an award for? I agree she's doing a great job here - perfectly pitched. I've thought before she must do a lot of kids TV or something as she's been a bit gushy and overexcitable for my taste, but none of that here. If this gets wide distribution it could be a big deal for EV adoption in the UK. Getting beyond the early adopters that Robert appealed to.

@@sharpendesign6604 You do realise there are more than 6 EVs out there? The carwow video whilst useful as a guide is aiming at a different audience, is also somewhat flawed in many places. A lack of knowledge of each car tested sadly.

@@aquissuk an update for further range wouldn't get the ipace to get anywhere near where that tesla got in that video. To compare those cars more in depth have a look at for example the Jalopnik's video comparing tesla model 3 VS Chevy bolt VS bmw i3. That video showed how far along those cars are in build quality and tech. I'm no fanboy or anything but looking at the specs, tech, safety, looks and experience given, tesla is just far ahead in the race. Tbh i was wondering if audi and mercedes would be able to just easily beat tesla with their overhyped EVs (eQC & e-tron) but looking at both sales and specs it doesn't get anywhere near it. I just hope these car makers actually go serious into this race as soon as possible otherwise they will die out because tesla is building up its infrastructure worldwide and will soon enough be able to be unbeatable.

@captain pugwash That is all to blame on infrastructure. The UK government should deal with that or comapgnies should make a better network like Tesla does and Fastned/Ionity etc on mainland Europe. @captain pugwash if I wanted a Dacia I'd buy a Dacia. With the greatest respect, Dacia uses Renault parts from 8-10 years ago. If I wanted a car where remote central locking is an optional extra, I'd buy a Dacia. Android auto/Apple carplay, surround parking sensors, electric windows on all sides, power mirrors, speed limiter and cruise control, automatic climate control, auto lights and auto wipers... All standard tech on my Zoe. It's much more of a car than a standard Dacia. If I wanted a car from last decade yes I'd save some money buying one. If you're going to start comparing apples to oranges, I'd save much more money by simply not buying a car at all. I'll rent a horse! You could do the "Yes but" all day long - I'm telling you what I did and what it cost me. It is beyond any doubt that I'm saving money compared to the cost of closest equivalent ICE vehicle. Bringing up a vehicle that isn't equivalent is just a "Ya boo sucks" argument, and one that isn't particularly convincing.

@@Macrike cars have had bumpers shaped like women and women have been selling cars women have been at the podium dressed scantily awaiting the winners of races bicycles even to much current contempt and review and revision. The electrification of cars is a bizarre development because it is being done in the name of progress when anything that enables cars to continue to be used is regress. Anybody with a clue understands the car's are malignant. The world Henry Ford engineered Mobility for does not exist. The original cars did not go faster than bicycles are allowed to go even now in even Europe. Even Electric bicycles everywhere in the world can now go faster on even a straightaway for as far as you could possibly want to go which is faster not just then people go in today is cars in cities of course you're very familiar with that fact as is everybody or anybody who's participating here should be I think assume to know that congestion prevent scars from being used in a way that allows you to get to work or wherever you're going faster than an electric bicycle or even sure a motorcycle. However what you can get away with on an electric unicycle especially or just an electric bicycle exceeds all expectations you have to try it to believe it and you will never go back and does not require a license plate so that unless you are physically pulled you're not going to be identified. I understand that some countries may already require license plates on even human AKA analog bicycles. My comments will have a United States Centric perspective. In the United States the public is starting to wake up about killing machines AKA cars. The reality of being a leader that although the public ultimately has to understand the truth-o-meter AKA true leader lots of laughs has the burden of accepting it long before. Those who defend cars do not do so with Integrity or honesty. As you are probably aware there are criminally corporately organized groups now that are trying to revive the fetishistic past treasonous that are dying the myths that are dying and they are actually enjoying substantial success. Historically the issue being one of compatibility. More recently we talked about complete streets. The issue however is that cars can be simulated going forward. What in the past has been ranked speculation subject to forced psych evaluation excetera controversy thankfully by the work of a heroic whistleblower criminalized to the ends of time is now science. Clued forecast the performance of the choices we now make in our future world with precision.

Here in the USA, my wife and I are proud owners of two Nissan Leafs, both SV trims but one of them is a PLUS model which adds a bigger battery with more zip. For getting into EV driving we found these cars were so easy to adapt to everyday driving and we use the EPedal mode(accelerator pedal only) to drive around on our trips out. Regen, Regen! We have a fond love of both Leafs that are very comfortable inside and my wife's has a few more options than mine but they are still very similar. The lower price is what we found the most attractive along with the ranges, 150 mi and the PLUS has a 230 mi range. These ranges fit our driving styles perfectly around town and I don't miss the gas station at all. Some of the hidden gems for EV vehicles are basically no maintenance, the quietest ride, instant heat when needed(no warm-up), premium parking at times with charger locations, garage stays cool in the summer and basically only tires to buy. They are worth checking out!

I know that you are an innocent child and you don't actually mean with most people would say you have said. The cost of batteries has coming down much faster than the prices of electric cars. That is the opposite of what the free enterprise system is supposed to ensure. The free enterprise system does things like provides plain old telephone phone service to everybody which is in today's world under ground charging continuously. You don't have to have dangerous tracks that people can die if they step on. You don't have to have batteries. You don't have to have vehicles that cost more than a used car headed to the landfill. You can have Mobility second to none if you get rid of these euge insane batteries. You don't have to capture countries to tax people the line the pockets of sociopaths who proposed this as a solution. They have the money to bribe people into complicity. Whether it's Vimeo or some other site yet founded that actually allows the truth to be told your support or will follow it you I consider the possibility are not as evil as you here appear to be.

The only issue at the moment with choosing an electric car model is depending on where you live, you may or may not be able to find demo cars in your local dealership, and even once you have decided what you want and place your order, you may end up on a waiting list for 6-9 months before you can get your car.

Which is why for a number of years yet petrol cars are still going to be on the road As the secondhand market is huge and for a first car spending £4,000 you can come out with something fairly decent.

That was an excellent video, very informative and lets face facts Maddie is an excellent presenter and very easy on the eye, a refreshing change from most EV reviewers. I am in the process myself of looking at going over to an EV and have found some car dealers very willing to help and others that altthough the manufacturer produces EV's the dealers quite frankly are not interested, why, I do not know, they just show a lack of interest and knowledge of the vehicle, in some of those dealerships I know more about their product than they do, disapointing to say the least. Anyway I look forward to watching the other EV videos with Maddie.

If anyone is considering a purchase, there is no other logical option but to choose a Tesla Model 3. 8 years warranty for battery and motors and obviously the battery technology (strange these points weren't considered on the comparison), alone, double the value of the Tesla. And for how much more? Besides that? 10+ years experience, wireless updates, sentry mode, driving aids, software, etc, etc, etc. Any other option just doesn't make sense IMHO... Oh god, I'm now realising that choosing for someone who doesn't understands EVs is VERY difficult! Choosing on the basis of range is totally wrong, especially if sometimes you have to do long trips, is much more important to evaluate fast charging capabilities, and relative efficiency, not range because when you go over 600km it becomes irrelevant! Choosing a Kona over a Model 3 SR+ based on range, is totally wrong, because the Tesla has the supercharger network, the integrated route planner, is more efficient, and especially it can charge at over 140kw, while the kona only tops out at 70kw

Continuing my reply to you on here this RU-vid it with the interjecting reply noted But continuing from the prior comment the application of civilization the laws that we have in terms of warranties that are implied for the fitness of what is being marketed to the general public do not apply to cars. It's not just offshore your deep ocean bottom exploitation that endangers the entire oceans all the life and that there's no insurance for etcetera. It is the cars in general that are unquestionably unfit for the purpose that they are unquestionably universally being bought and used for. The only defense that car is can possibly have is that having a ten box for gasoline and you know a small amount of metal that can be efficiently formed as Henry Ford was able to demonstrate into a vehicle so that you can keep it in your garage for like say 10 15 20 years before you all go anywhere and it maybe just started up once a week that is really something special. The problem with that is that now we have liquid nitrogen and wild liquid nitrogen is not the best fuel to use if you want to keep it in the tank for 10 years before you go anywhere with it before you do anything with all that potential energy that you got there in that tank without any pollution what's the weather having been generated from the production of it or the use of it well you'll 10 years I'm not even sure 10 years maybe 20 years because with a small solar panel you can continue to condense the nitrogen as well as a heat leaks into the tank the tank is still cheap of course and frankly in the summer you're going to want then. Just leak the the nitrogen but you're going to have a use for the nitrogen gas as it comes out of the tank you're going to have a use for the nitrogen as it warms up because it's going to be like delivered to your house much colder and so as it warms up in your emergency escape Jeep in the garage for 20 years 30 or 50 or is it a time as it warms up in there it'll just flush into a different larger tank for your house that powers the turbines that pump the heat into or out of your house and does all the other work that you need to do but in a while it's still very very cold it's got to get warmed up right got to get warmed up some more so I might as well be standing by on board your car in case you need to get out of there and buy get out of there I mean you know the 0 to 200 miles per hour like 2 or 3 seconds if you have the straight away to get that done so that there is no natural disaster note tsunami earthquake no nuclear missile that you can't outrun. That list thing cost almost nothing. That actually is important believe it or not that it doesn't cost anything to have super torque that makes electric motors the Wimpy obsolete nonsensical copper hogging monstrosity is that they are.

She really glossed over the lease costs. On a direct ICE vs EV comparison, unless you do a VERY high mileage (over 25k miles per year), EVs are way more expensive. On a minimum 5k miles per year lease, the same car works out £170 per month more after ALL costs. Using the new Peugeot 208 EV as an example, drive.google.com/file/d/1va3fz80IAzFW0kFzDRTRvK3bJalySdyj/view?usp=sharing

I can’t lease an EV, max mileage is 15k and I exceed that. Leasing a Kona for three years up to 15k miles £700 a month. Seven Hundred Pounds. Leasing for low mileages is actually less nuts than high.

But you possibly could lease a Renault Zoe with a similar range cheaper. I have a very low budget so I have gone for bank finance used Zoe with a battery lease. It suits my needs, so you need to do your research also be realistic on the range you need. One 300 mile trip once a years doesn't mean you need a 250mile range car for everyday use.

Full marks for braving this issue. So many EV choices in 2020. Choice is good, but can be overwhelming for those new to electric vehicles. You were less than transparent over specific leasing costs, but did show purchase prices. I know leasing looks expensive, particularly as the savings are only apparent over time eg fuel, road tax, service, but we might as well know! The horses for courses approach is a great way of viewing the multiple EV choices. I' d also say that many two-car families keep an ICE vehicle along with their EV. It's a good way of adapting to the change from petrol/diesel. Thanks and good luck with the series!

@marsBeBelinda 4 года назад
What is the reality that is being so ignored you say? Well in that series they would sometimes have a can of Coca-Cola or I can of Pepsi. This is some time ago but that didn't stop them from changing which can God broadcast but you know like with I wanted Michael Jackson they made him use the computers to put a towel to cover his private parts and one of his music videos you remember that? So when you see that website and you see that advertisement clearly and you say well that's just random there are just lucky and you might be correct because this is after all Amateur hour Well for now it is oh, but what about the future the next episode they're going to like contact the different advertising say we filmed the scene with each of your ads have a little auction you know who who wants to be shown with this huge third of the screen or whatever is right on the top and dreaming there about artificial intelligence in marketing for dummies right you did see that ad I know that you did we all saw the same at or did we Maybe not maybe in other markets they had a different Advertiser maybe this is something that RU-vid offers Channel creators you can upload one version except what except that they want to be the ones that put the ads right? And they charge a premium for people who are being told there aren't going to be ads on the shows that are on here correct? I mean Sony has produced the game called Detroit becomes human and Sony is likely to make a significant amount of money from people who play it and upload their videos and then going to split with the channel content creators being of course the creator of the content themselves and being there for otherwise aggrieved but for the fact that people don't go to movies anymore so the only way to get paid to produce content is the produced it in game format and then have RU-vid show people who don't have 16GB of ram Etc on their home computer watch RU-vid Watch other people engaging and learning and instead of paying for something for more you know what sane to be doing they're just watching ads and doing things like buying another car and dooming all of us to perhaps a fiery if sudden death?

I'm extremely dubious of the Carwow range tests... iirc they drive a 'fixed course' for about 10 miles, then extrapolate range based on how much the GOM drops... for the few reviews / shows I watched, the numbers they were coming up with didn't match the 'real world' numbers actual drivers were getting. Iirc they also didn't control for external factors (temperature, etc).
@russell2449
@russell2449 4 года назад
@@logicalChimp if you watch that video, they basically take 6 (I think ;?) EVs and take them all out for a drive across the English countryside, and then as each car reaches its limit, they exit the motorway, head towards a charging station, and then just drive around in circles until the vehicles finally run out of juice. After that they compare the actual miles to the numbers each manufacturer claims. The Tesla did come out on top, but the range was only 78% of what Tesla claims, and although all the other cars had similar or worse numbers percentage-wise, I have to say it was the worst I've seen a Long-range Tesla do, they are usually much closer to the company's numbers (but it was cold and other factors may have played a part).

18 months ago we got a second hand golf gte, there's some good deals about as a lot are coming off lease. Based on 20k km per year (+/- 80 km on week days and just short hopps at the weekend) we drive +/- 40% on electricity. Even in the winter we have to fill the 40 litre tank only once very 900 km. In the summer its every 1150km. Driving it is brilliant. On pure electric it just goes off the mark. If you really want to shift you press the GTE button and it takes off like the proverbial off a proverbial. Mentally it just feels good when you take your foot off the accelerator and the energy isn't being pee-ed away. You have no range anxiety because you have a 40 litre tank. I agree with prerunnerwannabe - you actually feel fed up when you see the rev countre click in and its running on petrol. Hope this real life experience story helps.
