Been watching you'r content for a while now and learning more about my Gen 1 150cc Maddog , Last night I removed the Makuni vacuum pump , Rolling Wrench is way to pricey on all his stuff and i wont order from them. but thanks to you my Maddog is running better than ever. thank you so much and keep up the great work i really apricate it .
That's a great video. A four-cylinder motorcycle pure fuel pump costs $250 and I'm going to install an electric fuel pump. Great information, detailed explanation, very much appreciated.
I love the idea of a hidden switch also. Someone steals the bike they get down the road as far as the carburetor bowl full will take them. Too funny when it stops running and the owner is beating someone's ass!
Wanted to pass on some info on the pump. The ideal situation would be to have a return system that send back excess fuel to the tank. This would be hard to do without performing major surgery or adding a lot of extra pieces. When the float bowl is full your pump is dead heading against the float needle. On pumps this can be bad cause it will make seals fail and add extra heat. I assume the pump you have is a canned motor pump, which means no traditional seal. Only issue you may have is a little excess heat and possible premature failure of the pump. However, with as cheap as they are that’s not a big deal. In the end no comment to change just wanted to pass this info along. Hope you don’t mind the long winded explanation.
Thanks and I agree 100%. So I would like to make a vacuum pump with it going to a small supply tank and the supply tank would gravity feed the carb. This would solve the issues of vacuum system and be cheap and east. And if you have dead battery you can still get home.
It would be nice to find a pressure switch that could be adjusted to the pressure you want. That way the pump doesn't have to run all the time. Get up to pressure and shut off.
I was trying to figure out how to find the constant power wire on my maddog scooter so that I can only have my electric fuel pump turn on when the key turns on and now I know better from watching this video. I just bought a brand new battery for my scooter and I can't wait to get the fuel pump wired in like this first I need to buy a voltage tester so I can see what I need.
I just bought a 2 pin "ruckus" fuel pump off amazon. Im hoping that it will work just fine. My biggest concern was it over flowing something. I still dont understand how your pump didnt overflow your glass bowl? The bowl has no lid, so wouldnt the pump keep filling it up and overflowing?? Great video though. Im gonna try and wire mine up and see what happens lol
@trucker132 the floats hanging down from the carb into the glass float up as the glass fills. Those floats are connected to a rubber tipped needle looking thing that blocks the hole the fuel comes in. When the fuel is burned and the floats drop down the hole opens up.
I see that you got your mad dog 150cc up to 70 mph. But what if I wanted my bike to just be really quick and only have the top speed to 60 miles an hour . What would be a good combination for that
Have you had any issues with the electric fuel pump since installing it on the bike? Someone said that it might pump too much fuel into the carb while riding the bike. I just bought the 17303 Edelbrock fuel pump and plan installing it on my maddog scooter
Petrol electric pumps all perish think the one's that last longer are with seals made of Neoprene that's why they like using vacuum pumps I would fit a one way valve would work better leaving carburettor full then when bike running plenty time for vacuum what do you think 🤔
Ya I never even thought of the valve until it was too late. LOL. I still have 1 bike on vacuum and have no issues with it. I had to put electric on the nitrous one as it is a wet system and needs to spray fuel. But reliability... so far so good. I have hundreds of thousands of miles on my car electric pump but it don't cost $20. LOL
Should be no need for it. Gravity is way faster than electric. But the answer is yes. The pump has no clue where the fuel is coming from. It would still work fine.
Do you not care for the slide type of carburetor? I see that one has a diaphragm type. I'm sure you know far more than I do so I figured I would ask. Are the slide type not good? I always thought they werre the best option.
No I love my slide type carb. The red bike is not mine. A 28mm flat slide is his next MOD though. I did a video on the 28mm and it made my black bike way better
My summer semester is finally done and the first thing on the list is getting the chuckus on the road again. I already have under-glow wired into my tail lights, could I still branch another wire off that and run it to the pump? or should I find another spot?
I just threw a 1-way valve on mine and never had this issue since. But great info. RW is a rip off. He claims his stuff is better but he just gets stuff off Amazon and slaps his sticker on it.
I have been pretty happy with everything I have got from rolling wrench. I use NCY Store, RW and other places. Who ever is cheapest after shipping. LOL. I know the 1 way valve is a good fix, but they run so much better with that pump. These things really should be gravity fed.
Awesome. Not a single glitch. Except I stole his pump for the 50 to make a video cause I didn't have one. Put a vacuum pump on his. Stupid thing would not start 2 says ago. Finally got it started and went riding then got stuck cause his starter was burned up. That electric pump saves starters. It seems like every time I have brought one of these back in a truck it was because that damn vacuum pump.
@@GhettoWrench Thank you. I just ordered a white one from the Cajun Maddog place. I want a gloss red one also but none are available. I'm building a Honda Ruckus also. So much more that can be done to these frames.
@nicolewolcott my buddy had the 800. Can't remember if that tank was fake or real and gas was under the seat. Did the bike come with a fuel pump stock?
I think it is 5/16" I use those fuel filters that take multiple size hoses in a step down fashion as adapters to go from different size hoses. There is no standard on these maddog hoses and when they get hot and harden over time they start leaking at the areas where the hose is too big for the barb.
I think the fuel tank takes the bigger hose than the carb. The fuel pump takes even a bigger hose. I use armorall or soap and force the smaller hose on those.
@headwaystudio the keihin had those tube's coming out the too for overflow and those are to holes in top of the float bowl. The pump should push fuel in the bowl and the air should go out those tubes. So it shoukd work. My lines never look full of gas and always appear empty.
