That tremolo 🤩

There were probably fewer of these made than even Gibson amps; so finding one can be tough. Sounds fabulous, though!!

I love the low-mids in these amps! And that tremolo is just killer! Nice playing!

I agree! The trem is outstanding. These amps are totally underrated. And they are extremely rare here in Germany. I was lucky to get one of them on my bench. A piece of musical history.

also your guitar playing is tasty great feel,and timing.. you sound like youve played a lot of gigs.
@martinstubeampworkbench2299
Thanks a lot. And yes I used to work as a musician. Did around 25-30 gigs a year. But corona ruined that. So I decided to open up a repair shop, instead doing amp repair only as a hobby. And shure enough, there is a need for people like me here in Germany. I’m pretty busy. Greetings

ooooooo nice guitar tone coming out of that amp. just goes to prove that it doesn't have to be all 6L6 or EL34.

Great video! I have an Epiphone Futura- same era as this amp but two channels, rev & trem, with 7591 tubes. These amps are awesome. Good work there, I'll keep an eye out for more of your vids.

Actually, my experience with triode-pentode combination tubes like the 6BM8/ECL82 here (or the conceptually similar 6GW8/ECL86 used in some Magnatone amps and others) is that oftentimes the triode section, which is used as the phase inverter, will become weak even though the output pentode might have good life left to it, but your tube testing procedure as shown here didn't seem to test both halves of each tube. The amp sounds good and everything seems to function pretty well here; but since in this case the triode section of one output tube is used as the tremolo oscillator and the triode of the other 6BM8 is used as the phase inverter for both pentodes, if you had any problems with weak tremolo or weak output I would advise swapping the two 6BM8 tubes in their sockets so that the triode that was formerly the phase inverter is used for the tremolo oscillator function, and vice versa. But anyway, as you mentioned, the 6BM8 is still relatively inexpensive nowadays. If you had an amp with the 6GW8/ECL86, for some reason those run rather a bit more money nowadays, and the pinout is different as well as the electrical specifications, and so the 2 types are not directly interchangeable.

Thanks for these valid informations, as usual. Actually I tested both halves of the tubes. But because they are so cheap, I finally dropped in new ones. So my klient can store the original, Gibson labeled tubes for the future. I think it’s good to have them, in case a collector wants to buy this amp. Greetings

I just inherited one of these, or at least close enough in year to have the same controls/plugs/fuse. My problem though, is that it appears to generate an interval instead of a tremolo. The number on my speaker was 220205. Does that mean the 5th week of 1962?

Yes, it’s the 5th week of 62. Problems with the trem: 1. Swap the tube. 2. Check the bypass cap on V3a. Maybe it’s a good Idea to change all the electrolytic capacitors. If they are original, I highly recommend that.

What amp did you use for that Catfish Blues riff in the intro?
