@@65drummer1 John Wayne made 2 of the best westerns ever made. The Searchers and The Shootist. The Quiet Man is my favorite non western. But James Stewart was my favorite because his portrayals were always understated. He was a common man who was usually thrust into situations that made him heroic.

I'm in Boston, and I think Massachusetts has a waiting period to get married, from the time you both go in and apply for a Marriage License. Not sure how long it is, but usual is at least 3 days. Could be as long as a week. I'd suspect, that since this is Massachusetts, and not much changes in the Law, that it hasn't changed since 1939. I think you may have to have a blood test too. Not positive cuz I've never gotten married (Thank God!!). So they couldn't have gotten married, in Boston, after 1 day.

Have the laws possibly changed since the time the movie was made? It's MOVIE! It's for ENTERTAINMENT!! It's for ENJOYMENT!!! It's NOT supposed to be a documentary with all of the facts and figures. Just ENJOY!
@aspenrebel
@aspenrebel 10 лет назад
Bob Parker Yeah, but I hate it when Hollywood gets "lazy". They should be factually correct, and certainly at least correct as to legalities. Would it have killed them to have done it right? To have complied with the law? Would it have altered the substance of the movie? As I said, this is Massachusetts, old Puritan, Victorian values and laws. So I doubt the law has changed since 1939. I could research it, but I don't feel like it.

MsG. Now did I not say "I think.........Not sure.............I'd suspect...........Not positive cuz I've never gotten married........."? Didn't I say all that? Yet this James Simpson guy comes back with a "Memoranda of Law" as though I was stating Fact, and that I was certain. Where did I ever say that I was certain? I only threw out the "possibility" for debate. So thank you Attorney Simpson for your Legal Research and Brief, in this case, before the Court. But really.............who gives a flying F***!!! Also, I said in my 2nd comment... "I could research it, but I don't feel like it". Didn't I say that? Then this Simpson guy is lashing out at me in his comment for my NOT doing something that I specifically said I could have done but simply did not feel like doing, couldn't waste my time, and frankly don't really care. But apparently he does care, and he has so much free time to waste, to research this stupidity. Wow!!! P.S. I'm not even going to waste my time to click on the site he provided to verify what he said. Cuz again, I don't care!!! I think marriage is stupid anyways. Serves no purpose. Back in Victorian Days, we use to have here (well, technically we still do) what was called a "Boston Marriage". That was when 2 women lived together for a long time, and never got married to a man, and never dated a man. Everyone knew that they were Lesbians, but that word was never spoken in proper society. There were a lot of "Boston Marriages" on Beacon Hill and in the Back Bay, and amongst prominent families, so the women were often well off financially. There is an area of Boston called "Bay Village" (which we all call "Gay Village), it is located off of Stuart Street and Charles Street South. It has been the living area for Gay and Lesbians for decades, going back to the 1940's anyways, if not even earlier. There has been a Gay NiteClub there, "Jacques" I think it is called, forever. Former Fugitive Irish South Boston Gangster James "Whitey" Bulger (finally captured, convicted, and in a Federal Pen in Florida, at 84 or 85 years old now, not sure) use to "hussle" gays at that Club and in that area as a teenage and in his early 20's before he went into the Air Force (he is bi-sexual. Supposedly he had sex with Actor Sal Mineo one time, way back when, before Sal got murdered.). I think one of the things Whitey use to do was "blackmail" the wealthy young lesbian gals coming down off Beacon Hill to "Jacques" and other places. Threatening to tell their parents that they were Lesbians, etc.. But I don't believe we ever had a special term for two men living together in such a way. Other than to call them "fags", "fruits", "fairies", "queens", "perverts", etc.. But Boston has had them for along time, long before this Liberal Puke Justice Marshall (I think that is her name) of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court made HER Ruling that said same sex marriage is permissible in Massachusetts. She isn't even an American. She's from South Africa for Christ's sake. She only did it, cuz she needed a "cause" to head up, cuz she was retiring from the bench. So now she's made Millions of $$$ giving speeches and writing about same sex marriage and gay/lesbian rights, etc. That was the only reason that she did it. Isn't Liberalism wonderful? Liberalism is a Mental Disorder!!

My mother's work was never done, she worked from early morning, scrubbing cooking ironing, until late night. You name it she did it, along with millions of other hard working women. They had no time for parties. They were too damn tired. Gee Shallow mind, judging off of a movie. That is how much you know? Which is Nothing ! Some people can't tell the difference between real life, and fictional people, places, and situations! Go get a book, expand your mind.

I've been watching these old movies a lot lately. It's terrible that whenever they mention their college days, college classes, reunions, etc, it's always only reference to men! Never a woman. There are always references to the first woman this or that in the 18__ whatevers. And the first female to graduate was in 1911, etc. Yet there are few references to females in college, and none in law or medical school. I did not even notice this when I first watched these in the 1970s-80s. More aware now at least, but no wonder women were nowhere when I got my first job--literally, they had never seen a woman who was not a secretary, and would not het me in or out of buildings without an escort. That was 1978. I'm getting it now. The last century was a huge change. These movies document that! And they create a fictional history of extreme wealth where it never existed, privilege where it never did either....

society will utimately form roles and the balance of power, for the survival of everyone. back then motherhood was elevated and respected, life was better then. now women commute to stress filled jobs and the family is fractured. feminism is a tool used by the world's elites to destroy the family unit and impose their own order on society, but most people fall for their media driven lies.
