That's honestly what makes the presentation of _Made in Abyss_ so enthralling: it's _breathtakingly_ beautiful, but that beauty is very clearly joined at the hip to the dangers of the Abyss, so the sharp turns into nightmare fuel happen almost without fanfare. It's rare to see a story pull that off so _naturally._

Point is, the Japanese game market does not shy away from certain things, in this case the tragedy and suffering these young explorers have to deal with.

What a cute little adventure game based off a anime, gonna go check it out on a streaming service. Must be one of those feel good adventure story animes where the main characters use the power of courage and friendship for the situations they get themselves into. ...Honestly, that's probably more accurate than you _think._ The _Atelier_ series has passed me by, but I know _Ni no Kuni_ takes some pretty grim turns despite its lighthearted aesthetic. The same can broadly be said about _Made in Abyss:_ very charming and colorful, but things take a turn _fast_ once the story gets rolling.

I wonder how they’ll implement the curse of the abyss into the gameplay. I hope it’s not just a timer or some boring stuff like that. It would be cool if, like in the show, when you ascend the curse kicks in, so you have to carefully plan your moves when exploring.

This is immediately what I was wondering about; I only got to see a few episodes of the anime, so idk if Riko finds a way around the curse at the end of the story or something, but the trailer here is making it sound sort of like you regularly leave the abyss. How is that possible? Otherwise we would end up Hollows, like Nanachi and Mitty.

If you haven’t, and have a 3DS, I highly recommend checking out the Etrian Odyssey series. There’s some thematic similarities, and they’re AMAZING (but difficult) games. I personally recommend EO Untold or EO Untold 2, but 4, 5, and Nexus are also all very good. 3 is good too, but a bit harder to come by I think

@@CatsandDragons7 I recognized the similarities between the two franchises when I first discovered _Made in Abyss_ -- even the Abyss itself feels like it's laid out the same as an _Etrian_ labyrinth, especially the one from the first game or _EO Untold._ Would've been _awesome_ if Atlus was developing this game, but hey, Spike Chunsoft's pedigree is nothing to sneeze at either.

@@jase276 I would have to agree with @Qwerty this looks very uninspired and akin to those low quality cash grabs that used accompanied Disney movie releases. The creator of MIA said that he took alot of inspiration from dark souls, it would be amazing to see this as a souls like or boss rush going through the layers. Unfortunately the effort just doesn't seem to be there.

Wow, they actually got the voice actors from the anime's English dub. It's nice to hear a lot of the VA's who work for Sentai branching out and doing more Japanese game roles, not just anime license games. We got a taste of that with Monark this year.

@@panthefox There are 3 I believe. Journey's Dawn and Wandering Twilight are basically streamlined plot with a few new scenes and stuff (good if you forgot things from the first season but don't want to rewatch the whole thing), while Dawn of the Deep Soul is the thingy required to watch before starting S2 if you don't want to be lost and feel like you skipped a big chunk of the story.

@@khaledm.1476 The biggest piece of evidence towards this aside from Word Of Author is actually the hammerbeaks. not just edible, but a full meal and cookware all in one package. Quite handy for any delver.

I find this so amusing, both the anime and this game look so cute and innocent, until you dig deeper (quite literally) The first half of the trailer I could see so many people who haven't seen the anime thinking "Why is this game rated M? It looks like a kids game" and then they get to the second half with the bleeding from the eyes and monsters of horror part, it's then they realise oh... This is the stuff of nightmares Loved the anime and I hope I will enjoy this game too, I'm praying it's good, ever since watching it I've wanted to be able to experience the abyss

I want to add to myself and say I showed this trailer to my parents, skipping the rating at the start and asked them what age would play a game like this, my dad said kids, 3+, he was genuinely shocked when I said it was rated M, he assumed that meant there must be something "naughty" in it but when he got to the curse I saw him just staring in abject horror and once that was over I restarted the video to show him what the rating was for, he definitely didn't expect it I already pre-ordered the collectors edition so I cannot wait for it to be released

@@abrahamlupis9354 Very true, my parents have questioned some of the anime I've watched and then been surprised when I showed them why that was not for kids I mean heck even actual cartoons can be pretty dark (despite some actually being for children) My dad has always been under the impression that animated = for kids, I've proved him wrong many a time

We literally need an AbyssMMO with intricate, permanent systems in place for your characters, such as the curse effects being permanent , etc

No need of permanant curse effects. There would already be enough chaos between the characters attacking others because of the abyss's hallucinations AND the trolls who just do their best to ruin everyone's fun. At this point I'd be more worried about the MMO aspect than the abyss itself...
