In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Dear Mariam, I am impressed by your story and especially the way you tell your story. So moving, so intense. Australia should be happy with people like you. Not everyone gets the same opportunity, but not everyone does the same thing with their opportunity. What you did with that is great. As an afghan man I am very proud of you. You are a source of inspiration for many Afghan women.Thank you

We could all learn so much from what this young woman had to say if we just stop and think of others that are less fortunate than ourselves as fellow human beings. They have the same hopes, dreams and desire to contribute to society as the rest of us. If only they are given a chance rather than shunned because of stereotypes. Why shun a person for where they were born? Why not help them to succeed by giving them the same opportunity we all were given? They have so much to contribute to any society that accepts them and gives them a chance. Excellent talk Mariam Maz Hakim. I hope everyone in the world that is more fortunate does more than just listen. Give a fellow human being that is less fortunate than the rest of us a chance. Plant a seed. You'll be amazed at what grows.

why everyone wants to go to stable countries why they don't fight for their own motherland and make it livable.

It is good to always recognize and appreciate what this beautiful country has offered you and thausand other asylum seekers and refugees as it would remind u to be a good citizen while contributing to the wellbeing of the people and overall economy of the country but that doesnt mean u should create misconception about your culture and country of birth. That is what still attached to ur identity u r known as Afghan Australian. I feel you just exaggerated giving example of your cousin's life in Kabul. It is not that worse. By the way good speech and u must be proud of your accent as well.

Sounds really good but these very refugees are taking away our jobs and living off our tax money for many many years till they fully integrate, start working and pay taxes. The very tax money that we Australians pay should be used on making our lives better. I am not against refugees but there are way too many refugees here already and not everyone turns out like Maryam. There are countless others who have decided to live their whole life on government handouts (our money) and will never pay a single dollar in taxes in their lifetimes. This is the hard truth and that is why we want to restrict the inflow of refugees.
