Made in China would be a threat if the meaning and objective was about high quality and high value was number #1 priority but there is always the that price war and high margin thinking for higher profits at the cheapest prices to manufacture which goes against the success and reputation of the business. Once the consumer feels like they have bought a piece of crap or see more crap in the stores even the retailers can suffer from this consumer or customer backlash feedback. It’s bad for business in general to have people see a Made in China label on the product. The point of moving manufacturing out of China even if it’s Chinese businesses doing it the goal is to get rid of the negative stigma of have a product being called crap. The Chinese population facing hardship from a loss of jobs and business closings has to thank consumers and retailers who found out the hard way they don’t like having to be exposed to crap 💩.

What over capacity is everyone talking about ? It has nothing to do with the economy. Only thing that actually matters is the break even point calculated on the investment in plant and machinery, fixed overheads like rent and interest, variables like utilities, salary and raw materials and the selling price AND being able to sell that quantity on a regular basis. If that point requires say 90 - 95% capacity utilisation then the person who started that factory is an absolute idiot. Slightest break or slow down in the chain can bankrupt the entity in no time. Apparently that is exactly what is happening now.
