One might assume British Labour Party Leader Sir Keir Starmer was destined to become an MP. He was, after all, named after the party's founder. But Keir says that was never his plan. In an exclusive interview with Leeds Magazine, the lawyer-turned-politician tells us how his time as a defence barrister drew him to the Palace of Westminster.

As a Leeds alumnus, I will be enormously proud when Keir Starmer becomes the first Prime Minister who graduated from an English university other than Oxford or Cambridge.

@@NittyLittyNiturzion Winston Churchill and Jim Callaghan also didn’t have degrees. The point is that Keir is the first PM who is a graduate from an English university other than Oxford or Cambridge and that is LEEDS.

He is highly educated, but he is down to Earth...I live in Germany, born here, by a british Mum and my beloved British Grandfather, died in August 23, 95 years of age and I became british 2012 in the Embassy in Düsseldorf, because I adored the Queen and wanted to say, My Queen...so I wish Keir just all the Best and Uk allot of Wealth

It's a powerful testament to the enduring influence of this institution in shaping leaders who navigate the complexities of our world with purpose and resilience. I loved nightstops in Leeds in later years, and always visited the music shop on the Headrow. I loved to go to the University second hand bookshop and even found the bound copies of final year projects extended summaries, from 25 years years previously at Lougaborough. After being rubbished as a coincidence, in front of the whole course at a review, I proved from first principles that the Southwell Plot applied to structures not only weak in bending but also weak in shear. Just seeing the names of my whole year in the copies, was worth it. Great interview….I have a great photo of my Dad wearing my gown ( hired ) posing for his workmates.

The big question is. Is he about to scrap tuition fees so others can enjoy a higher education that he enjoyed because if not he is just waltzing about in front of camera's in a meaningless stunt. It's almost as though he's bragging that he had a higher education but doing nothing for those who don't have the funds.
@witlesswonderthe2nd883

@inside-left not a chance that he’ll get rid of his buddy Blair’s policy, uni makes far too much money from it and especially from overseas stiudents. He’s full of hot air and it’s going to get a lot worse as politicians are not fit enough to be in charge of walking a dog.

Lawyers dont make money. They TAKE money. So from that, you can conclude they dont have the slightest idea of running business. And it's business success which will MAKE money for the country. TAKING money is doomed to failure.
