Our new Jose Rizal class ships need these CIWS-ll. Without CIWS the ships are completely defenseless against even the slowest of incoming enemy missiles.
@mikotokoro9136
@mikotokoro9136 3 года назад
Frigates and destroyers typically have VLS or surface to air missiles that can intercept missiles. So they are not completely defenceless. But are vulnerable if a incoming missile passes long, intermediate, and short range missiles. Examples being SM 2 (long range/Medium range), ESSM(Short range). But if a ship does not have these types of missile systems, then they are defenceless.

Well South Koreas CIWS is the Goal Keeper CIWS from the Netherlands. So I don’t know how well the US will incorporate it because it’s a different system. Also Phalanx is around 40-50 years old. So it should get a replacement anytime soon.
@juicymango8785
@juicymango8785 3 года назад
US navy doesn't care much about CIWS system. There are more focusing on intercepting a target from far away. CIWS is the last line of defense and its not a wise choice to prefer CIWS over long ranged anti air missles. To normal countries CIWS is indeed important. But to a large navy like the US who has so much anti ait defense... CIWS is the least of concern

@@GlenCychosz Several years ago, Goal Keeper had been shut down. Then ROKN had to buy the Palanks 20m gun from Raycion, Raycion raised its price double and triple. So ROKN decided to develop 30m CIWS.
@jclulu3942
@jclulu3942 3 года назад
@@GlenCychosz The US Goalkeeper(20mm CWIS) had exposed a lot of problems including its weak destructive power, so even the US navy ever tested the Phalanx to introduce it in 1990 but it was cancelled due to American defense industry's counterblast. The Korean navy used to use the Goalkeeper and now is using the Phalanx. They know very well about both of two CIWS systems. The Korean navy wants a 30mm CIWS to properly respond to the current and future missiles that have been getting bigger and faster that's why now LIG and Hanwha are showcasing more advanced and powerful 30mm CIWS for the Korean navy.

CMS HANWA system is not yet battle proven is still under testing stage. The CMS (HANWA) communication interface is not compatible with the U.S. and other allied navy ships that could mean a communication disaster in case with Chinese CCP navy encounter. The existing S Korean Frigates and/or Destroyers are still fitted with the CMS Tacticos Thales from Nethwrlands. The previous Philippine frigates BRP J Rizal & A. Luna CMS are HANWA locally manufactured in S. Korea.CMS contract was to install Tacticos Thales CMS but HHI CEO at the time is noted for contract fraudulence instead of Tacticos Thales as per contract the inferior type CMS HANWA system was installed. As for planned purchase of Philippine submarine, Philippine should buy the French made Scorpene type instead of DSME 2000 S Korean brand. The reason S Korea is still new in manufacturing submarines unlike France with more than 30 years of experience!

@@Shammie19 nah, the PN FOIC already confirmed that the submarine project will be push back to the Horizon 3. Even if the Korean Government will provide the funds thru softloan, the Philippine Government is still required to provide the 15% of the overall budget to start the project. If they can't still provide the needed 15% to start the building of the corvettes and OPVs thru softloan, what more for the more expensive submarines?

@@Shammie19 likewise with the french (which I preferred) but there are multiple sources already stating that the project has been moved to horizon 3 There's also a lot more projects that needs funding within horizon 2 like: 2 Corvette 2 more strategic sealift vessel 6 OPV (Those the some of the major assests that's needed within horizon 2 too but would likely be pushed back to horizon 3, since the current government doesn't want this to be a midnight proj. like what happened to the 2 JRC)

Since the MRF project now leans towards Saab Gripen better it also considers the upgraded Gottland Class, if Naval Group and PN talks fail it would very interesting, Korean subs are also good but I think Sweden makes awesome subs..

You should know that DSME-1400 and Scorpene 2000 are different from each other in purpose, displacement and price. 1. Displacement : DSME-1400 - 1600 ton (full load) / Scorpene2000 - 2000 ton (full load) 2. Unit Price : DSME-1400 - 367 million USD *(price in 2011)* / Scorpene2000 - minimum 500~600 million USD *(price in 2005 / +50~60 million if AIP added)* Scorpene2000 is a good sub. So DSME-1400 is as DSME subs are called a Legend in RIMPAC(Rim Of The Pacific Exercise) by showing its overwhelming performance over decades. Also the Indonesian navy recently established its track record of diving 310 meters deep underwater with DSME-1400. The most important thing for the PN is that the Scorpene2000 is much more expensive than DSME-1400 even though both subs are all good. The PN is a beginner in sub operation, so I think it would be good for the PN to start with DSME-1400 that is much cheaper and also good in quality. If the PN doesn't care for any, why not KSS-lll batch-2 with a 5000 ton displacement, which is the only conventional sub in the world that has a vertical missile launch system and run by lithium-ion battery and also much more superior to the Scorpene????

@@jclulu3942 I don't know so much about the DSME, but the scorpene are famous submarines used by many countries all over the world, and are ultra silent proven submarines. How long the submarine is able to stay under the sea without going up, and many other technical details are very important in the choice.
